Question about one day over on 60 day tourist visa

Featured Replies

I am sure this is on here someplace but I have not found it in my minimal and admitted lazy search attempts..

My flight leaves 8:00am the day after my 60 day tourist visa from Laos expires....my plan was to check in before midnight and just wait it out in departures until flight left....I do not know if my airline will have check in counter open that late the night before...can/should I get an extension or just be over by a day...if I do overstay by one day will that have any negative impact on getting my next visa into the country a month later?

Thanks in advance for the information

I've  done this a couple of times over the last few years - one day overstay only in each case. Both times I wasn't charged, but they did make a small hand/written note in the passport. It has not been an issue on subsequent SETV applications, Visa Exempt entries and extensions. I wouldn't worry, but go straight to the airport on the morning of your departure.

[ take it you mean 1 day over your permission to stay stamp

A one day overstay is not something to worry about. It is very unlikely that you will be fined and there are no consequences apart from a small stamp in your passport. This stamp will have no future bearing on your ability to obtain visas and will not affect  future entries to Thailand.

Just as a follow up for future members wanting to know what happens in this situation....I can basically confirm that I overstayed basically 6 hours. I got up to the head of the queue to get my passport stamped out and they pulled me out to a special desk, gave me a special stamp with a little handwritten note in the passport and assured me this would have no ramifications on future entries into the country. Also, no fine had to be paid for one day overstay (at airport).

10 days later i got a new 90 day visa issued to me in United States and there were no issues getting back into Thailand a week later (other than horrendously long 23 hour flight, sore back, full planes, full food court in Hong Kong airport, crying baby sitting behind me, Teelak (now former Teelak) wanting me to IMMEDIATELY get into my luggage while still **INSIDE** Suvarnabhumi so she could get at her bounty\ransom that I brought back to her from America and my Beta fish that Teelak (now former Teelak) was supposed to be taking care of being belly up in the bowl upon entry into room...)

I love Thailand :)
