Cambodia will send about 1,000 domestic workers to Hong Kong by the end of the year, the Ministry of Labour announced yesterday. The first group will travel in September after the ministry approved six employment agencies to arrange jobs for them.

 

“We will try our best to send our first group to work as domestic helpers in Hong Kong in September, but it also depends on if our citizens want to work over there or not,” Labour Minister Ith Samheng said. Mr Samheng said Hong Kong has guaranteed safe, humane and well paying positions, a $550 monthly salary, meals and free accommodation.

 

“We do not know how many of our domestic workers will eventually go to Hong Kong, but we expect to send about 1,000 domestic helpers by the end of this year,” said Mr Samheng. “We cannot force someone to go to work in Hong Kong, but if anyone is interested in this job, they can contact the six recruitment companies.”
