Woman riding home for Mother’s Day killed in accident

By The Nation

A woman who was riding pillion with her husband was killed after being hit by a vehicle early Saturday. The couple were on their way from Bangkok to Chiang Mai for Mother’s Day.

Police said the accident happened shortly before 5am on Phaholyothin Road in front of the Saraburi Sports Stadium.

The victim was identified as Pikul Jaita, 33, a construction worker of Italian Thai Development at its Green Line project in Bangkok.

Her husband, Apinan Buakhiew, 35, who rode the motorcycle was also injured.

Apinan said he and his wife worked for the Green Line project and his wife wanted to return home for the long weekend. He wanted to travel on Saturday morning but his wife was keen to leave on Friday evening to be able to reach home in time to pay her respects to her mother on Mother’s Day.

Apinan said his motorcycle was hit by a vehicle, which fled the scene. He said he did not see what kind of vehicle it was or its licence plate.

His wife died of a broken neck and skull damage.

Bangkok to Chiang Mai on a motorcycle... Wow... what an endurance test that would be!!

So they were travelling from Bangkok on Friday evening, but they were hit by a car two hours outside bangkok on Saturday morning?

journalists will write any nonsense without even common sense checking of facts. more quality thai journalism

I wondered why they took detour to Sara Buri, Sara Buri would be faster to CM... Also they would never reach CM daytime if they were still at Sara Buri in the morning. RIP to the poor woman.

Dear God..a woman has died and we are discussing what time they left and what route they could have taken.

Someone has lost a wife and daughter and possibly a mother.

Nearly cleaned up a couple on a bike this way a couple of days ago.

No rear lights, no reflectors, just came out of the dark - I locked up & missed them, but shouted 'mai me fai dang' as I passed which I hope sounds something like 'no red lights'

So bloody common. Are there any 'pleece' (pardon the 'put BBC')  ;-)  here?
