TAT to open tourist info centers, OTOP shops at PTT gas stations

BANGKOK, 15 August 2017 (NNT) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pursuing the plan to establish tourist information centers and OTOP shops at PTT gas stations nationwide.

The TAT has joined hands with the Ministry of Interior's Community Development Department, SME Bank, and PTT Public Company Limited to establish tourist information center and OTOP shop called "Pracharat Sookjai Shop" at PTT petroleum stations nationwide to promote local trade and tourism, helping increase more revenue from domestic tourism to communities and local entrepreneurs.

A total of 148 Pracharat Sookjai Shop are planned to open at PTT gas stations in all regions of Thailand. The shop will feature OTOP products and products from community enterprise selected by the community development office in each district that showcase the identity of each province. The pricing of products start from 20 baht per item.

The TAT is raising the awareness on local products among tourists in each travel season. The location of each shop at a PTT gas station can be searched on Google Map.

I thought they already did that a year or so ago...??

Oh, the OTOP shops, aren't they the ones that never have anything interesting to sell, are always empty?
It might be a good idea to clean the toilets, which are generally filthy at PT stations and one of the reasons I try to avoid them.

Universally filthy and often not working, even the new ones to some extent. I don't really care if the new ones are better, most of the PT places around here are old ones and so I avoid them. As a result I don't visit the new ones either.

PT is putting its priorities in the wrong places, most users want fuel, clean toilets, opportunity to buy a snack in that order.

Screw OTOP. I support hanicrafts and so on but uninteresting goods without prices marked and cheaper at the local market> No thanks. I did try.

Right, mea culpa. Maybe my wife's experiences in a PT station this morning influenced my judgement.

Soprry about that

No problem, just pointing it out i might have been a bit to blunt. A Dutch trait.

As one member has already pointed out, their variety is dull and of no interests

to the city dwellers plus the prices are not inline with of the concept from the

farmer to you, so what's the point?....

The point is more state enterprises enabling other state entities to set up shop around the forecourts of the state oil company's gas stations.

well at least i know  now there are 2 different petrol stations PTT and PT

In my 17 years hear i seriously hadn't noticed although i regularly use a PTT station, so  next time i will inspect latines and report back!

One tampon one product

Brilliant

How many tourists drive cars and stop at PTT stations?

A much better idea would be putting soap in the toilets.

Yeh not an ideal priority place for tourist info centres. Bus and train stations and high tourist pass through locations are needed .

In this day and age an online tourist info and chat service with mobile apps would be way forward and cheaper to implement ...

Better idea would be manning the new ones they already built in likes of silom bangkok for example.

They even had new furniture installed but used excuse booths had no electric which was a lie as stalls at time where connect off the same power and running :-) Usual corruption in funding was real reason .

well, if i was a tourist, knowing what i know now, the VERY LAST place i would visit is anything the TAT promotes
