BANGKOK: -- Thailand, a small country famous for its beaches, relaxed lifestyle, and delicious foods among other charms, was ranked ninth among the world’s most visited countries by the United Nation’s World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

In a report published yesterday, Thailand continues to rise in the rankings — it moved up one spot to the 9th place with arrivals of 32.6 million tourists. In terms of tourism receipts, Thailand also climbed from 5th place to 3rd and made revenue of USD49.9 billion from the sector.

The ranking was conducted based on last year’s tourism data across the globe.

That place in the picture is near where I live in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, unspoilt by tourism as it's so close to Bangkok and only day trippers mainly. Love it there

That's really amazing.  Indeed it seems the only part of the economy that's super strong.

(To the point that if any Thai is doing anything else for a living that doesn't make 100K a month, and they speak passable English and/or Chinese: go do something in tourism, it's virtually as good as free money being handed out.)

How many are actual tourists and how many are just in transit ?. Also do they count border runners as new tourists ?

Hope it stays that way too!...

Please excuse spelling mistakes/misunderstanding
