Flooding but Nakhon Ratchasima dam low

By The Nation

Lam Ta Khong dam in Nakhon Ratchasima’s Si Khiew district is only 29 per cent full despite widespread flooding in the Northeast.

Chidchanok Somprasert, director of the Nakhon Ratchasima-based 8th Royal Irrigation Office, said the dam has 94 million cubic metres of water but a capacity of 314 million cubic metres.

He said the dam is the only one of five major dams in the province less than half full.

Chidchanok said Lam Ta Khong dam has experienced low water levels for several consecutive years, so his office drafted a plan to dig a canal to directed water to it from Pa Sak Chonlasit dam in Lop Buri province.

He said that will ensure the dam has enough water for residents of five downstream districts - Si Khiew, Soong None, Kham Thale Sor, Muang and Chalerm Phrakiart.

He said the project will cost Bt4 billion, with his office requesting Bt30 million from the Cabinet this year for the project’s environment impact study.

Only just drafted a plan ! Bit late me thinks !

That's the scary part, they need a plan for the WHOLE nation so all solutions can work together as a system.

4 billion shouls be enough to hire a real expert to give his opinion. Thai can't do it themselves, it just won't work.
