The automatic pumps in front of Patong Hospital and in front of Patong Police Station were broken and need to be fixed quickly.

PHUKET: -- Patong’s Mayor has announced, what she hopes are, solutions to the recurrent floods and set a budget to solve the problems in the long term.

As Patong is one of the areas that always suffers from the flood on the island, the Mayor, Chalermluck Kebsup, said that she has surveyed several spots in Patong and can now specify the actual problems around the tourist town.

“I found that the drain-ways like canals, ditches and sewers are clogged by many items including some furniture, big pieces of cement and even refrigerators. We have already unclogged and dredged the drains which will improve their efficiency,” said the Mayor.

What a bunch of clowns. I don't know how many times we and our neighbours have called the Patong Municipality to clear the accumulated rubbish from the drains at the bottom of our road. They only turn up with back hoe after we have been flooded. They built a huge road wide drain that ends in a field.  So all the water from upper Nanai end up literally on our door step and lounges. Plus the land owner has built up his land with top soil in preperation for more buildings -= less place for flood water to spread.

We all have been petitioning the Municipality to extend the concrete drain down to the new road drainage system for 4 years now. Bunch of excuses - land owner won't allow drain on his land, no budget. I expect the land owner is holding out for big compensation.

K. Chalermluck.... this has been an ongoing problem for many many many many years.  When are you going to bring in some 'REAL' engineers to conduct a 'REAL' assessment of the problem areas and then LISTEN to their findings and then SPEND MONEY immediately to fix once and for all. PATONG IS A JOKE.... just like PATTAYA.

The flooding that now occurs regularly near the hospital and police station in Patong is a direct result of a greedy public official permitting a developer to fill in an important drainage klong a few years back.

Not even a few years back ... the NEW buildings nearing completion on the filled in Klong coming down from Prabaramee rd  and causing flooding at the Police Station and Hospital ( TWO VITAL PUBLIC AMMENITIES ) are  just about to open ! This flooding is all Greed Made. The excavations of that creek bed occurred  only 8  months back. Ironically , they sit on the klong bed that APK  Guesthouse was fined  for building a bridge over just 5 years before  Its a disgrace and I hope its investigated ...
