BANGKOK: -- Former TV news anchor Sorrayuth Suthassanachinda is still in high spirits, despite being detained in custody following the rejection of his bail application, according to his lawyer, Monanant Ruangjamras.

Monanant said he would now work on an appeal to the Supreme Court before then moving on to a revised bail application. He gave no details about the conditions that he would recommend be attached to the new application.

His legal team would have 30 days to appeal to the court, he said.

The Supreme Court yesterday rejected the bail petitions of Sorrayuth and two other defendants in the bribery and embezzlement case involving commercial air time at the state-owned public broadcaster Mass Communications Organisation of Thailand (MCOT).

The top court’s ruling followed yesterday’s upholding of the lower court’s verdicts by the Court of Appeals.

Defence lawyers offered bail sureties of Bt4 million for each but this was rejected by the Supreme Court.

The lower court had handed down jail terms of 13 years and four months to Sorrayuth and Montha Thiradej, an employee of Sorrayuth’s Rai Som Co, and a jail term of 20 years to former MCOT official Pichapa Iamsa-ard, all of which were upheld yesterday by the Appeals Court.

He is guilty, why does he not just go to jail, going one court higher and years further wont do his health much good and he will have to go to jail anyway. I really don't get it but its the game that all those HISO's play.

He's not really hiso, Just a low celeb. But they all hope to string things out, buy time and maybe get lucky if a more "favorable" regime gets in power that willing to help them.

Because celebrities here typically don't ever go to jail. There's almost always some way available to wriggle out of their punishment eventually. And of course, if all else fails, there's also the unexpected trip to Singapore, Dubai or wherever -- assuming you can get out on bail at some point.

This guy gets 13+ years and the former MCOT person gets 20 years, and bail denied. But look at what happened to "actress" Anna Reese, or the teenage van slaughterer, or the Red Bull guy, etc etc. The list is long and illustrious.

FORMER TV news anchor Sorrayuth Suthassanachinda is in high spirits in prison despite his bail application being rejected by the Supreme Court, according to his lawyer.

Sorrayuth’s lawyer Monanant Ruangjamras said he would now work on an appeal to the Supreme Court with a revised bail application. He gave no details about the conditions that he would recommend in the new application.

His legal team has 30 days to appeal to the court, he said.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected the bail petitions of Sorrayuth and two other defendants in the bribery and embezzlement case involving commercial air time at the state-owned public broadcaster Mass Communications Organisation of Thailand (MCOT).

The top court’s ruling followed yesterday’s upholding of the lower court’s verdicts by the Court of Appeal.

Defence lawyers offered bail sureties of Bt4 million for each but this was rejected by the Supreme Court.

The lower court handed down jail terms of 13 years and four months to Sorrayuth and Montha Thiradej, an employee of Sorrayuth’s company Rai Som, and a jail term of 20 years to former MCOT official Pichapa Iamsa-ard, all of which were upheld by the Appeals Court on Tuesday.

Krit Krasaedhibaya, commander of the Bangkok Remand Prison, where Sorrayuth spent Tuesday night, said yesterday that the once-popular news anchor showed signs of stress and asked for religious booklets to be read before going to bed at around midnight.

“Sorrayuth’s stress is at a normal level and he does not need to consult with the prison’s psychiatrist or take any stress medication,” he said.

He said a medical examination showed that Sorrayuth had high blood pressure and high cholesterol, without any worrying health issues.

Sorrayuth had many visitors yesterday but he did not make any special requests, Krit said.

“Fellow inmates do not seem to get excited upon meeting him although Sorrayuth is well known.

A lot of well-known people have been detained here before, including several politicians,” he said.

He added that there are about 4,100 inmates at the prison.

Odds are that he won't have to do the full stretch.

Suspect he will feint an illness, either to get reduced sentence,

or better conditions than his fellow inmates, seems a common

action by famous people who feel they should not be in jail, even

though they have done a crime.

Another hi-profile person suffering from "Stress". Perhaps a new term is evolving - PSD - Prison Stress Disorder. Commonly afflicting high ranking officials, onset after sentencing to lengthy prison terms and bought on by unexpected abandonment by their closest allies. These allies possibly suffer from pre-PSD, commonly know as RFTHD - Run For The Hills Disorder. Both disorders are incurable.

He might be able to reduce his stress if they allow TV privileges and he can watch Channel 3 in the morning?

"Here is the latest news, read from inside the prison, now over live to our newscaster on-the-spot !" :whistling:
