Hi arriving Thailand 21st Feb will be applying for a non immigrant multi entry O type visa

Am married to a Thai national and applying for the above with the intention to stay/support.

I am British, 44 years old when I arrive

Wishing to convert to a 12 month extension asap a few questions if I may;

1. I cannot open a Thai bank account until I /we have found a property to rent and subsequently have an address, do I have had to have had a Thai bank account opened for a specific period of time before I may apply for an extension (12 months)

2. To satisfy the Thai autorities what will I need to show them, I will not be in employ but believe I am able to meet financial requirements (400,00 THB in an account????)

I have marriage certs, birth cert, have applied for the police check, but am not sure whgat else I need to do before I come as opinions vary

3. May I apply for the extension in Phuket

Since October 01 the marriage/support rules have been changed Dave. The 400,000 baht in a bank in Thailand has been changed to a monthly income requirement of at least 40,000 baht. You do not require a police check at all. Extensions can be done at Immigration in Phuket.

As said the 400k bank deposit is no longer an option for new applicants. Support is also not a requirement. But one/other/combined income must be 40k baht per month with a 3 month proof provided. For you that would be letter from Embassy (based on pay slips/tax/whatever) or for her the last 3 month Thai tax receipts.

Hi just picked up your reply and thanks

A letter from the Embassy? From the British Embassy in Bangkok? Which embassy? I would like to have the letter ready to go asap, where should I look to get the letter prepared in UK? I would not know

What about if my accountants made a statement confirming my salary and I got it notarised and then legalised? any good

Please reply

Best to apply at Hull for a multi entry non imm. O valid for 1 year (reason- to be with wife) much easier just a border trip every 90 days.

Yes, if you are British you use the UK Embassy in Bangkok. The account letter should satisfy the Embassy and serve as proof for immigration but believe they will require that letter. It is routine.

There is no border trip required with an extension of stay. And there is the possibility of application for permanent residence at some point.

As you are applying for a multi-entry visa you do not need to worry about extensions for the next 12 months.

You will be stamped in for 3 months on arrival, and can simply do a border run to get another 3 months.

This way you have plenty of time to find where you want to live, establish an address and get a bank account.

BTW You can always use a temporary address for the bank and change it later.

When you are ready then you can get the papers together to show the combined income of 40K a month

to satisfy the 12 month extension.
