  1. Somewhat tragicomic, that the freshly minted yoga teacher gal travelling the world with no work and income, and when needed between her, her parents and her sister they unable to raise a mere 1000£ for an emergency. Can only hope she learn a life lesson.
  2. part my confusion that they seem to mix in spouse almost everywhere. what if i am divorced ( in the process) and i dont live with the spouse the same household? assume it would be just fine to register my son to my new address as an adult, and say we stay in the same household, even though the meantime he stays at the university and not at home, neither with me or his mom.
  3. thus the question ???? i am on that extention of stay based on marriage. in case the divorce, and revoking that, would that be possible to swap to an extention of stay based on thai son?
  4. yep, that would be the simple way, but the answer is not. 3 years more is just a no go.
  5. where things get a little tricky.... bcos i could walk in to immigration office and ask about the new extention to be granted based on child ( if age limit not issue), and not based on marriage, but if they decide to deny i would be fully in their timeline to leave the country, which i prefer to arrange on my timeline.
  6. yes, meant that. in first post mentioned my age is 47. unfortunate but not yet the age for retirement based visa. the upping the 400k to 800k in the bank wouldnt be an issue, i would rather do that than throw money at Elite visa.
  7. the current extention runs until end of September. i could ask wife to keep the paper marriage ( we are on friendly terms enough), but being separated long enough, i think a close to it would be the right thing to do. for that i could do locally, without a trip out to Laos, but just not ideal given the situation. is really unfortunate that while i spending approx 20-25k a month all inclusive my son's university education, this doesnt count as supporting a Thai kid, once he is over 20yo.
  8. hi, we came to the conclusion with wife to divorce. ( peacefully). technically separated for a few years now. currently staying in Thailand on Non-O based on marriage, with the yearly permission to stay extensions. we have a 21 yo son, currently in University, for another 2 years left. i am currently 47. i am not planning to rush into a new marriage just yet with girlfriend. what are my options to stay? can i switch to or get an extention of stay based on supporting a Thai child studying in university? if so, do i need to leave country an re-enter with a fresh non-O visa? if status cant be switched here, is it easy to get at home embassy ( EU) a non-O multiple entry 1 yr visa based on having a Thai son ( family)? would appriceiate any feedback from someone with experience about this topic. many thank! Z
  9. Figuring out isn't a problem, per se, called the 7% VAT. The issue how to change it to 8-10% VAT without the 75% no income tax payers push back. So far every time the hike was raised it failed to get support from the majority public, for obvious reasons. Even the "elected" general with military law didn't dare to force change it, that tells you all.
  10. Wrong. Too many forget someone has a job, not more and not less, and that comes with borders what is included. Going 'above and beyond' is rarely comes with any job, but ppl tend to like that for their experience. If so, pay for it. Just fair. For example, you want a haircut, it doesn't need to come with small talk. Honestly no one really care to listen it. your taxi driver the same. or your server need to take take your order and bring you, without really needing to make up your mind how you feel about going vegan last week. or does your gas station attendant really must wash your window while filling the car? SO yeah, I mean too many expect things that is not the job per se.
  11. Bcos booking a hotel room or sitting down a restaurant, typically paying the business, not the individual directly. Like it or not, tipping an individual person in the quickest and most widely working way to get their special attention to you. Bcos why not should a service ppl pay more attention, above the expected job minimum, to those make clear to like and appreciate the extra care. It is a transaction that usually pay out. Telling from 25 yrs experience in service industry. Of course, tipping isn't a must. Just often the best practice if want to have the best experience. That is life. Ps. Left service industry 5 yrs ago. Too many entitled but cheap Charlie's nowadays.
  12. Of course the police is running their organized crime racket. Everyone knows, no one cares to stop. But it isn't the police alone. The national park chief to the NACC official, every walk there is corruption. Immigration office the same. Proof of address in Jomtien immigration: 300thb Proof of address in chaiyaphum immigration: 500thb. The price is different. But they have something common: both places takes money but gives no receipt. Never ending list. This is ( also) Thailand.
  13. That is a stupid course of action to try to fake "history", like nothing has happened. If anyone, why not threated with legal action those who made the faulty sign, approved and paid for the faulty sign or perhaps installed the faulty sign? Not one dated to point it out? Strange?
  14. Just be greatful they stopped with the stupid arrival form, that would slow things only further.
  15. The so called "equality" never will result 'equal outcome'. The everyone equal and has universally access to everything is an idea of the communism. I know it is appealing one, understand why. But also know it destined to fail. I grew up in a communist country, seen it first place. Free is often the least efficient. There is no incentive to do better. In turn that make it often just as costly. Currently my son is in university. Yes, it is paid university, although not one of the fancy one, sort of affordable. The reality is the additional costs ( room, food, uniform, books, etc) are higher than the tuition.
