Netanyahu's White House Visit Fuels Fears of US War Disaster

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to meet President Donald Trump on Tuesday morning, the first in-person meeting between the two leaders since the United States and Israel attacked Iran in February.

The meeting comes as some figures within the Republican Party’s “America First” wing worry Netanyahu will press Trump for a more aggressive approach, after months of heightened tension between the allies over Israel’s military actions in Lebanon and the direction of the US-Iran conflict.

White House Meeting after Months of Strain

Netanyahu is in Washington to attend the funeral of the late Senator Lindsey Graham. The White House had not publicly confirmed the meeting until Monday, with the details finalised only as officials prepared for the service.

The visit follows what critics describe as frequent contact: Netanyahu has made seven trips to Washington since Trump took office last year, and America First-aligned figures say the relationship has become a political liability for the president’s anti-interventionist supporters.

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon said Trump’s “non-Israel First” backers were alarmed, arguing that Netanyahu’s visits to the White House have repeatedly been harmful to their agenda. He cited the scale of Netanyahu’s access to the president as a reason for concern.

Ceasefire Talks, But Escalation Fears

The planned talks come during a fragile period in the wider conflict. US and Iran suspended nearly two weeks of tit-for-tat strikes over the weekend amid hopes for a new ceasefire deal. However, Trump has continued to threaten “massive attacks” if diplomacy does not succeed, after an earlier peace agreement collapsed earlier this month.

Some anti-interventionist Republicans had hoped the most recent ceasefire effort would become a lasting end to hostilities. Instead, they are now weighing the possibility that Netanyahu could persuade Trump to move towards a more enduring phase of war, potentially keeping the United States entangled in the Middle East for months.

New polling cited in the article suggests a growing share of Trump’s base is no longer convinced the war is worth its economic cost. Republicans also face the prospect that the conflict will remain a campaign issue as voters head to the polls in November.

Curt Mills, executive director of the American Conservative magazine, characterised the meeting as a risk of escalation, saying Netanyahu would argue for the “logic of escalation” unless Trump both gives a memorandum of understanding a chance and remains willing to step away from the conflict without a clear resolution.

Discussions Cover Iran and Regional Agreements

Ahead of the meeting, a White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the leaders will discuss the Iran conflict as well as the trilateral agreement involving the United States, Israel and Lebanon. The official also said they will cover plans to expand the Abraham Accords, the set of deals supporting diplomatic normalisation between Israel and several Arab countries.

While critics fear Netanyahu could be pushing Trump toward further military action, some advisers and former officials said the president is unlikely to be directed by Netanyahu. Alex Gray, who previously served as chief of staff at the National Security Council during Trump’s first term, said Netanyahu would likely promote his preferred approach to addressing Iran’s nuclear capabilities, but added that Trump would still be guided by what he considers America’s interests.

In the background, US-Iran strikes remain paused. Trump said on Monday that the United States would resume action if the latest diplomatic effort fails.

Political Risks for Both Leaders

Netanyahu’s aides and supporters have argued the relationship is aimed at preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Matt Brooks, chief executive of the Republican Jewish Coalition, said there is “zero daylight” between the two leaders on that objective, while acknowledging the political costs of maintaining pressure.

Senator Mike Rounds said the meeting was beneficial because it was “better than having them not talking”.

The Israeli prime minister faces electoral pressure ahead of October’s vote, and US special representative for Iran Elliott Abrams said Netanyahu needs the meeting to understand Trump’s next steps, whether that means returning to the memorandum of understanding or moving towards escalation.

Abrams also warned that the stakes are higher for Netanyahu because Trump is the decision-maker and because Netanyahu’s political fate depends on whether the war’s direction is seen to be serving Israel. He added that multiple difficult topics are expected to be discussed, including Lebanon, Syria and Gaza.

You keep blabbing on about children in Gaza, who is it putting them in harms way?

Who caused all this?

Nigeria

The UN Development Programme estimated that the Boko Haram/ISWAP conflict had caused:

  • 35,000 direct violent deaths between 2009 and the end of 2020

  • Nearly 350,000 total deaths, once hunger, disease, destroyed healthcare and displacement were included

  • About 314,000 of those were indirect deaths, many involving young children.

  • Many thousands of Christians have been killed in Nigeria over the past decade.

  • Islamist groups such as Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have deliberately targeted Christian churches, clergy, and communities.

  • Violence involving some Fulani militant groups has also caused large numbers of Christian deaths, although experts note that these conflicts can involve a mixture of religious, ethnic, land and criminal motives rather than religion alone.

  • Probably tens of thousands were directly murdered by Islamist extremist groups during the last decade, and hundreds of thousands may have died when indirect consequences such as starvation and disease are included. But no credible source can truthfully provide one exact number for “minorities and children” across Nigeria, Sudan and every other affected country.

The two deadliest by far

1. Hamas attack on Israel (7 October 2023)

  • Approximately 1,200 people killed.

  • Around 250 hostages taken.

  • The deadliest terrorist attack in Israel's history and the deadliest single day for Jews since the Holocaust.

2. AMIA bombing (18 July 1994)

  • 85 people killed.

  • Over 300 injured.

  • A truck bomb destroyed the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) building in Buenos Aires.

  • It remains the deadliest antisemitic terrorist attack outside Israel since World War II.

  • Somalia: Converts from Islam face severe violence, including the risk of being killed by extremist groups or even relatives.

  • Yemen: Ongoing war, Islamist extremism, and tribal pressures make openly practicing Christianity extremely dangerous.

  • Sudan: Christians, especially in conflict zones, face attacks and discrimination amid the country's ongoing civil war.

  • Eritrea: Many Christians belonging to unrecognized churches are imprisoned indefinitely.

  • Syria: Christian communities have suffered heavily from years of civil war and attacks by Islamist extremist groups.

  • Nigeria: Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), and some armed Fulani militant groups have attacked Christian villages, churches, and clergy, although Muslims are also victims of extremist violence.

  • Pakistan: Christians face discrimination, attacks, and misuse of blasphemy laws.

  • Libya: Christians, especially migrants and converts, are vulnerable to abduction and killings by extremist groups.

  • Iran: Converts from Islam and leaders of house churches are frequently arrested and imprisoned.

YES, THE BARBARITY OF ISLAM.

Pure deflection in BOLD CAPS! Kids are too small to be very useful as human shields. So who p[ut them in harm's way? The place they were born, you know, the one where Israel can't stop killing?

I would welcome your posts about Nigeria and Boko Haram, although I don't see you reporting child deaths. There are certainly child soldiers, putting them in death's way.

And then we get to Izzy, the point of your post. Let's say, 1,500 Israelis killed. That's just slightly outweighed by 70k killings in Gaza. So if it's tit for tat, that argument ain't got no tits.

And then you move onto an antisemite, terrorist bombing in Argentina, followed by a whole lot of other countries for no apparent reason.

No idea white you're trying TO SAY here!

P.S. My eyes ain't so good. Can your make the text BIGGER, please. I'm kinda deaf, too. So you'll have to SHOUT!

disaster it's a small word, Trump has been bloating about the stop of firing into Iran saying it was because they were talking to finalize the deal, which Iran completely vehemently denied, and Iran just made a point, they don't give a rats arrrssssss about the talks with the BB guy and if they think about getting the strait back they better look somewhere else

Iran has rejected an Omani proposal to divide the Strait of Hormuz into two equal shipping lanes, declared that the waterway will "never return to its prewar situation," and launched a surprise ballistic missile attack on US forces in Jordan, the most serious escalation since the interim deal between the two collapsed earlier this month.

I see you don't put your efforts into the Christians getting slaughtered daily in Muslim countries.

What a planet we would have if guys like you were running things

Judging by the Islam hate list you published above, which, bizarrely on a thread like this, focused on Nigeria, you do seem to have been infected with the Islam hatred virus. An all too common disease nowadays. But good news, there is an anti-dote, knowledge of your OWN history. If you look into British history you will come across countless examples of barbarism. Check how you killed a Scottish "terrorist" as you call freedom fighters, not exactly cricket was it? Witch hunts? Torture? Lord's rights to rape servant girls? Kings marrying children? Concentration camps. All in British history. So before you mouth off about the supposed barbarity of other nations, learn your own history.

And btw, I'm to the right of Attila the Hun, and I find the IDF killing 21000 children about as repugnant as it gets and Netanyahu clearly is a war criminal who should be behind bars. And all his enablers and supporters too.

Well, it's a bit hard to convict him in a court of law, when he is protected by his fellow jewish lawmakers, who unlike the Filipinos did with Duterte, are unlikely to extradite the vile criminal Netanyahu to the Hague. How is that supposed to happen? Everyone knows that if Netanyahu were to go before the Hague, he'd be locked up for life.

The artificial formation of the "State" of Israel was the disaster.

We are still experiencing the aftershocks.

The disaster has been unfolding for decades.

Yet, nobody wants to try to undo what was mistakenly done.

The State of Israel will not stand, and it should not stand.

How much more suffering will the world endure before things are put right?

The Natufian culture (/nə.ˈtuː.fi.ən/,[1] nə-TOO-fee-ən) is an archaeological culture of the late Epipalaeolithic Near East in West Asia from 15,000–11,500 Before Present.[2] The culture was unusual in that it supported a sedentary or semi-sedentary population even before the introduction of agriculture. Natufian communities may be the ancestors of the builders of the region's first Neolithic settlements, which may have been the earliest in the world. Some evidence suggests deliberate cultivation of cereals, specifically rye, by the Natufian culture at Tell Abu Hureyra, the site of the earliest evidence of agriculture in the world.[3]

The world's oldest known evidence of the production of bread-like foodstuff has been found at Shubayqa 1, a 14,400-year-old site in Jordan's northeastern desert, 4,000 years before the emergence of agriculture in Southwest Asia.[4] In addition, the oldest known evidence of possible beer-brewing, dating to approximately 13,000 BP, was found in Raqefet Cave on Mount Carmel, although the beer-related residues may be a result of spontaneous fermentation.[5][6]

Generally, though, Natufians exploited wild cereals and hunted animals, notably mountain gazelles.[7] Archaeogenetic analysis has revealed derivation of later (Neolithic to Bronze Age) Levantines primarily from Natufians, along with substantial later gene flow from Anatolia.[8]

Dorothy Garrod coined the term Natufian based on her excavations at the Shuqba Cave at Wadi Natuf.

You hardly need brainwashing when you can see you live in a land stolen by an occupying, vicious, criminal army, the IDF, that treats you like an Apartheid class. Yes, their minds are poisoned against Israel, but because of the actions of Israel and Israelis. Israel reaped what it sowed. If I were a Palestinian kid, which thankfully I'm not, I too would be carrying a gun looking for Israelis. The Israelis stole their land. They started it.

Prior to this war, the conflict was between Israel and Iran, plus its proxies. Confined to the Middle East. If it was not for the oil there, no one would give a rat's rectum if they all killed each other.

I don't know if Trump is being blackmailed by Netanyahu. If he was not, he has to be the most moronic President ever, starting a war for which there is no exit ramp, which affects the whole world.

That's rather debatable if you look at the Proms or an England football match. Britain just doesn't have the means anymore. But the response to the Falklands nonsense by Argentina seems to suggest that the British empire mentality is alive and kicking. Britain is still occupying the Falklands, which it defended with violence in the 80s, Gibraltar, and many, many other territories around the world are still occupied by Britain. If it had the means, Britain would no doubt be as violent as it was not so long ago. It just can't be.
