Settler Attacks Surge Across West Bank Villages After Teen’s Death

A wave of violence has swept through Palestinian communities in the occupied West Bank, with dozens of attacks reported following the death of an Israeli teenager, according to officials and witnesses.

Get today's headlines by email image.png

The unrest began after 18-year-old Yehuda Sherman was killed on Saturday in an incident involving a vehicle while riding a quad bike. Israeli police said they were investigating whether the collision was deliberate or accidental.

Escalation After Teenager’s Death

In the hours that followed, messages circulated in settler groups calling for retaliation. Israeli media, citing defence officials, reported more than 20 attacks overnight targeting Palestinian villages.

The villages of Jalud, Qaryut, al-Funduqmiya and Silat al-Dhah were among those affected. Residents reported homes, vehicles and farmland set on fire, alongside widespread property damage.

Widespread Damage and Injuries

Footage shared online appeared to show large groups of masked individuals entering villages, with fires burning and emergency services responding. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said at least three people suffered head injuries during confrontations and were taken to hospital.

Rescue workers also reported significant destruction in residential areas, with multiple buildings damaged and vehicles burned. Graffiti calling for revenge was seen on some structures.

Israeli police said five suspects were arrested near Deir al-Hatab. Authorities added that one officer was injured after clashes between security forces and Israeli civilians near the Itamar settlement.

Rising Violence Amid Wider Conflict

According to the United Nations, settler violence has intensified in recent weeks, with several Palestinians killed since early March. The escalation coincides with broader regional tensions following military action involving the United States, Israel and Iran.

The Israel Defense Forces said troops were deployed to affected areas after receiving reports of arson and disturbances involving Israeli civilians.

Israeli civil rights group Yesh Din described the incidents as “a night of pogroms”, criticising security forces for failing to prevent the attacks despite prior warnings.

Political Reactions and Ongoing Tensions

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the violence, accusing settlers of targeting civilians and vital infrastructure during a sensitive holiday period.

Within Israel, political figures also voiced concern. Opposition leader Yair Golan criticised the government, accusing it of allowing lawlessness to spread during wartime conditions.

Meanwhile, senior military officials have previously described such violence as unacceptable, even as tensions continue to rise across multiple fronts.

Israel has established around 160 settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since 1967, housing hundreds of thousands of Israelis. These settlements are widely considered illegal under international law, a position Israel disputes.

Further unrest was reported on Sunday evening, with settlers blocking roads and additional incidents emerging, raising fears that the situation could continue to deteriorate.

The Guardian:

In Qaryout and Jaloud, about 100 masked settlers carried out successive waves of raids. Witnesses described scenes of chaos as vehicles were set ablaze and homes attacked. At least five cars were burned, while others – including a fire engine – were vandalised.

Israeli troops and police were present on the outskirts of the villages by 2am, but did not stop the attacks, which continued into the night, or prevent settlers moving between villages, witnesses told the Guardian. Footage from a CCTV camera showed a large group of hooded settlers dressed in black withdrawing from Jaloud.

Israeli forces and settlers have killed more than 1,000 Palestinians in the West Bank since October 2023, according to the UN.

“Jewish terrorism is spreading, exploiting the war, with the backing of extremist ministers and dangerous encouragement from the prime minister and the defence minister. This is a failure of responsibility for Israel’s security.”

Still Israel wonders why most normal people are against these illegal settlements in the occupied territories, and why some states arm militants. They own most if not all the trouble in the Middle East.

Additionally, over 68% of Israeli Jews are Israeli-born

This is the critical sentence. Is this 68% split between ethnic origin? Statistics can be used to mislead.

It seems lessons have been learned from history;

“Several opposition figures condemn widespread attacks by extremist settlers on Palestinians in some 20 locations across the West Bank on Saturday night, with Arab-majority Hadash-Ta’al party leader Ayman Odeh calling the events a “night of fire” and Hadash MK Ofer Cassif comparing the ongoing wave of violence to Kristallnacht.“

Take that up with the Times of Israel, or better yet with the terrorist Israeli ‘settlers’ who actions brought about the comparison from elected Israeli politicians.

I didn’t make up the news.

Your objections to the news of Israeli thuggery in the absence of any criticism of the organized Israeli violence against innocent Palestinians is noted.

Let's be real . Most Israelis are of central European origin. They are scumbags. Plain and simple.

So all central Europeans are scumbags?

That statement is pointless and silly and will not help to resolve the crisis in the Middle East. Try harder.

October 7 taught them nothing

What about the innocent Israeli teenager mown down by the truck. You know the thing that’s started this round of violence

Every action has a reaction especially when it comes to killing Israeli kids. They should know that by now.

No statement we make here will help resolve the crisis.

I don't think scumbags is the right word, but after the initial wave of Jews to Israel after it's establishment, i don't think lately the upper class from society is moving to Israel.

We know as a fact that an innocent Israeli teenager was killed in a road collision.

We know the driver of the vehicle that killed the Israeli teenager turned himself in.

We din know what wad the root cause of the fatal collision.

We know a bunch of Israeli thugs violently attacked a Palestinian community.

There is no justification for such violent thuggery.

No, there was no justification for that either.

But then the Heinous Terrorist attack of October 7 is not the subject of this thread.

You of course know that, but perhaps feel the need to deflect from this violent Israeli thuggery that is the subject of this thread.

Only in Israel can a so-call "settler" take your family's land at the point of a gun and steal your property and home with the military backing you in the background. Now they are doing the same in Southern Lebanon. If an Arab make any move to defend their land, home, property, and family - they are labeled as "terrorists."

As a farang "settler" in Thailand, can I take a gun and forcefully take my neighbor's land in order to "settle?" No!
Can you do that in any other "civilized" country in the entire world? No!
Then why can it be done in Palestinian lands in the Levant?

Israel proponents will say that that land theft is the right of "settlers" whose actions are just "defending themselves." Only in Israel. If West Bank Palestinians are murdered or injured by "settlers" you won't hear a peep out of Western media. But hurt a hair on the head of a "settler" by someone defending their land, and it makes mainstream news with "Settler's OUTRAGED" in the headlines. And the Western public will say that settlers have a right to take the land - they are "God's Chosen People" and "God gave then all of the land from the Nile to the Euphrates."

We live in a very sick world. Show me one other place in today’s world where "settlers" can legally steal the property of others?
This is just like S. Africa's apartheid, and like S. Africa's ethno-supremisist period or history, it needs to come to an end. It's WRONG.

It’s not a usual and regular Nazi reference.

It’s a report from a credible source ((link provided) of a specific accusation being made by an elected Israeli politician about the a specific attack on Palestinians in the West Bank by Israeli thugs.

Although I will grant you, such violent attacks by Israeli thugs on Palestinians in the West Bank are both usual and regular.

Just more Jew terrorists, illegal occupiers under international law, committing acts of terrorism and collective punishment with impunity.

Perhaps someone really nasty might throw an egg at a Jewish shop in Yarmouth out of disgust for what so many Jews are doing and you just watch the absolute furor of the online Jewry at how the Jewry is being persecuted. Though the shop owners may save it to cook. 20p is 20p after all. 🙂
