Do any of you live in different places in south East Asia

I'm thinking living in Philippines for one year , Thailand for 6 months

Vietnam for a year , Malaysia for one year and Cambodia for 6 months then Laos

Is that a good lifestyle for a retired guy ?

Oh don't bother many of you would get lonely and can't think for yourself

You can't live by yourself many of you sadly and need someone well I don't !

I'm planning on becoming a digital nomad

Spending time laying in the beach in Da Nang Vietnam for 6 months then 6 months in Boracay island in the Philippines then 6 months in Siem Reap

Many of you can't do that ...lol

Oh please leave the semantics to me

No I don't especially at my mature aged however it's not too late to learn

Says the genius academic who found himself lonely in a place like Pattaya, because everyone knows it’s one of the loneliest places on earth, then nearly drank himself to death out of said loneliness, then had to see a local shrink to figure out what his problem was, and finally ran back to Australia crying because the conclusion was that he simply missed his mop.

You time it right you can miss rainy season every year. North of the equator part of the time and south the other part. Indonesia, particularly Bali for the south part.

I started to get jealousy at a member here Simon who travels and works in different places leading an exciting life whilst many of you live in 21sqm condo in Pattaya with no balcony

I don't want to lead that life stuck in a dark mouldy room condo

I want to lead the same life I see if digital nomads on YouTube

6 months in Manila, 6 months in Bangkok, 6 months in Hanoi

I'm going to buy a laptop later this month

Ar least I will be living my life unlike you old broke drunken fools living in your shoebox in the Flybird condo in Pattaya

Oh yes I didn't do a "patrol " of the floors last time I was there because the dark corridors are depressing .

I feel sorry for the whole lot of you !!!

I would think traveling around the world in a boat would be better for you.

No visas, no paperwork, no rent.

Just get in a boat and paddle or sail.

It's practically free.

You can stop and drink coconuts along the way.

Fish is free, too.

More importantly, in your original post, you said you would be a “retired guy” spreading your time between the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia and Laos. If you’re retired, that means you no longer need a paying job, no?

But never mind those details either, or the fact that you’ve never owned a passport. It sounds like the perfect lifestyle for you. I would suggest starting out on your travel fantasy immediately, but without ever actually leaving Australia, as usual. The only bloke known to bounce around all of Southeast Asia without ever exiting the mop closet.

But do tell us, are you planning on spending six months in each of those five countries each year?

I'm certainly not retired and probably won't until I plan my retirement better on fact I'm on 11pm start tonight

My job allows me to take holidays with long service leave / annual leave/ accumulated public holiday leave , sick leave , twice a year

I recently took a short flight within Thailand to visit family, no suitcase, just a small carry on with enough clothes for a few days. It got me thinking about becoming a nomad with few possessions beyond a nice set of traveling clothes and some shorts, flip flops and shirts. Passport and loaded ATM and credit card.

I say go for it.

Lol, well, this has certainly escalated quickly.

It’s reassuring to see that the digital nomad lifestyle is already going so well for you, particularly the part where you spend your time explaining to everyone else how they’re supposedly living.

I’m especially impressed by the new travel itinerary. Six months in Manila, six months in Bangkok and six months in Hanoi. That’s certainly one way to make the year last longer. Perhaps you can find a new laptop that comes equipped with a calendar that has eighteen months in it?

Anyway, I’m so glad to hear you’ll be buying a laptop later this month to begin with. That should really complete the digital nomad transformation. Apparently, all you need is a laptop, a plane ticket and absolutely no idea what you’re going to do with either of them.

After all, why spend years learning how to actually use a laptop when you can simply buy one and immediately declare yourself a digital nomad? I suppose the next step is learning what a keyboard does?

And the concern about all these “old broke drunken fools” supposedly living in their “moldy shoeboxes” at the Flybird is touching, particularly coming from the only person on AN known to have actually stayed there himself. Apparently, you visited once, conducted an extensive statistical field study of the entire sweaty Chang singlet population, and have since assumed the entire forum lives there too? Brilliant!

Still, good luck with the laptop purchase. Once you’ve worked out how to power it on, I’m sure the digital nomad dream will be well and truly underway.

Moving for tax purposes or boredom makes sense, a pain if renting though, always moving stuff, if you own at least one that would make it easier

You spend a lot of effort asking for advice then when it's given you either dismiss it or insult members by saying they're lonely, too old or living in tight quarters, while not knowing what any members here do or how they live. Members here aren't broke either, and are living quite comfortably from their retirements or pensions. You're already in the exclusive assuming members club, so instead of putting other members down, if you want advice treat them better.

A lot of people do it.

If your health is ok and you enjoy moving around, go for it.

But why not limit yourself to 3 months in every country? Then you can just stay on tourist visas and not worry about the taxation problem being resident in any one place more than half the year.

Monthly AIRBNB will be higher than renting long-term AND factor in travel expenses.

Been a digital nomad does not mean posting on Aseannow , you would

be more like a digital tramp,wandering the countries of S E Asia, that

might be OK when you are young ,but not when you get old, I dont

think you will ever know what you are after ,because you don't know.

just retire in Australia and come for 2 week holidays....

I think 6 months maybe too long in each place anyway but I wouldn't want to go through all my superannuation funds fast

Too much hassle packing and unpacking one's life all the time, planning, visas, banking etc. That's a young man's game.

Or base yourself in Bangkok.

There is more to do there than beach towns and it's easier to fly out of the country.

No doubt every one has noticed that every time gg makes a post, you show up with a plethora of very long, well thought-out replies. You even go back and edit them so they will be just perfect. You seem fixated on gg, is there something going on between the two of you that we should know about?
