Trump Approval Rating Falls to Lowest Point of Second Term, Poll Shows

President Donald Trump’s approval rating has dropped to its lowest level of his second term, according to a new NBC News survey, as public concern about the economy grows.

Get today's headlines by email image.png

The poll found that 37% of respondents approve of Trump’s overall performance in office. That figure has declined steadily in recent months, falling from 39% in early February and 42% in early December.

The results reflect a broader downward trend in the president’s approval ratings throughout his second term.

Gradual Decline Since 2025

Earlier NBC News polling showed higher levels of support for Trump in 2025. In both April and June of that year, 45% of respondents said they approved of his performance. By late August 2025, that number had slipped slightly to 43%.

The latest survey suggests that support has continued to erode since then.

Much of the drop has come from a decline in the number of people who say they “strongly approve” of the president’s job performance. Only 20% of respondents now say they strongly approve, compared with 26% a year earlier.

The proportion who say they “somewhat approve” has also edged down, from 19% last April to 17% in the most recent survey.

Rising Disapproval

At the same time, strong opposition to the president has increased.

Half of all respondents — 50% — now say they strongly disapprove of Trump’s performance. That figure is up from 42% in April last year.

Another 13% say they somewhat disapprove of the president, unchanged from the April 2025 survey.

Taken together, the findings suggest that negative views of Trump have grown more intense over the past year.

Economic Concerns Weigh on Ratings

The poll was conducted during a period of volatility in financial markets, with the stock market falling to its lowest level of the year while survey responses were being collected.

Markets later rebounded toward record highs amid uncertainty surrounding energy prices and the ongoing war with Iran.

The survey indicates that economic concerns may be affecting public perceptions of the president’s performance.

In earlier polls conducted in April, June and August 2025, around 40% of respondents approved of Trump’s handling of inflation and the cost of living.

In the latest survey, however, approval of his management of economic issues dropped sharply to 32%. Only 13% of respondents said they strongly approve of his handling of those issues.

Among the roughly two-thirds of respondents who expressed dissatisfaction with Trump’s management of the economy, 52% said they strongly disapprove.

Poll Methodology

The NBC News Decision Desk poll was conducted by SurveyMonkey between March 30 and April 13.

It surveyed 32,433 adults across the United States and reported a margin of error of plus or minus 1.8 percentage points.

He's still got a ways to go. Come on Donnie. You can do it. Get that disapproval rate up to 100%.

Trump does not care. He won twice. Neither do I. I feel sorry for you losers. No job. No hobbies. No life.

Without Trump you would all be lost for words.

I was taught that it is not right to make fun of the handicapped, I ask you all to stop poking fun at poor ole Donald. Three wives can't be wrong along with numerous young girls who saw how handicapped he realy is.

FYI the population of USA is currently 342 million. He could have a 1% approval rating and that would still be millions, maybe... hmmm do they poll kids under 18?

These low ratings are well justified As Trump has failed at nearly everything he has attempted to accomplish during the second term, and he is currently wreaking havoc on the economy. When you think about his promises to bring inflation down they're almost comical at this point.

In addition nearly every one of his appointees are either super corrupt, grossly incompetent or drunkards.

Another one bites the dust. “Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer will be leaving the Administration to take a position in the private sector,” Steven Cheung, a White House spokesman, posted on social media. He said Keith Sonderling, the deputy secretary of labor, would serve as acting secretary.

Pressure on Ms. Chavez-DeRemer had mounted in recent weeks, as investigators and congressional leaders homed in on questions about her conduct in office, and that of her aides and members of her family.

The Labor Department’s inspector general’s office is nearing the end of a monthslong investigation into a whistle-blower’s allegations of professional misconduct by Ms. Chavez-DeRemer and her closest aides. The claims include that she was having an affair with a member of her security team and used department resources for personal trips. Ms. Chavez-DeRemer was expected to be interviewed in the matter in the coming days.

Investigators spoke with several dozen witnesses and uncovered evidence that Ms. Chavez-DeRemer and her staff abused federal spending limits on personal trips, several people familiar with the investigation said, including on fancy hotels, S.U.V. rentals and meals. Four people have left or been forced out of their jobs in connection with the investigation.

Investigators had also reviewed text messages sent to young staff members by Ms. Chavez-DeRemer, her former deputy chief of staff, her husband and her father. The messages, reported last week by The New York Times, suggested that the secretary was drinking during the workday and raised questions about professionalism with her staff.

Just more corruption and ethical bankruptcy, everywhere you look Trump has surrounded himself with nothing but that.

But 1% is a silly comment.

Previous Presidents will respond to declining ratings by changing policies, firing incompetent staffs, reforming key issues and even admitting to their mistakes but not TRump. He will deflect and attack the polls dismissing them as fake and used the Truth Social to claim that the country is thriving under his leadership. None of his secretaries dare to tell him the truth. His autocratic leadership style is hurting him.

Susan and Harrisfan used to post many many polls to show their favourite politician Trump was popular. C'mon Rocky there must be some polls you can muster in 2026.

That's still surprisingly high, considering that only a complete moron would at this point still approve.
