Trump draws backlash over reaction to Mueller’s death

President Donald Trump has sparked strong criticism after publicly welcoming the death of former FBI director Robert Mueller. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: “Robert Mueller just died. Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people!” The remark quickly drew condemnation from political figures and commentators across the spectrum.

Mueller, who led the high-profile investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 US election, had long been a target of Trump’s criticism. The president repeatedly attacked Mueller during and after the probe, describing it as politically motivated.

However, Trump’s reaction to Mueller’s death marked a significant escalation in tone, prompting accusations that the comments were inappropriate and disrespectful. Critics argued that such statements undermine norms of political discourse, particularly following the death of a public servant.

Allies of Mueller highlighted his decades of service, including his leadership of the FBI and his role as special counsel. Many noted that, despite intense political pressure during the investigation, Mueller maintained a low public profile and avoided direct confrontation with Trump.

The backlash to Trump’s comments reflects the continuing divisions surrounding the Russia investigation and its legacy. While Trump supporters have long criticised the probe, others view Mueller as a figure who upheld the rule of law during a politically charged period.

So different and absolutely no comparison.........Mueller was a US hero whilst trump is a dumb US coward and a clown. RIP Robert Mueller. Go to hell trump.

It would appear during his very traumatic childhood that Trump was never taught anything about respect for others, he just simply became a toxic bully, and year after year he became a darker more hateful version of trailer park trash. Trump is an absolute pig. Having said that he manifests none of the good qualities that pigs have. Perhaps a gutter slug or a swamp creature is closer to the mark.

You prefer liars ? Pretty odd

Even just using the word truth and Trump in the same sentence shows how incredibly disconnected you are from reality, and how powerful that Kool-Aid is that you continue to drink on a daily basis.

Trump would not know truth if it bit him on his swollen, bulbous, cankerous ankles.

I can't even count how many times I've been called a leftie from these ignorant MAGA people, 555. I am on no left or right side in politics, but everyone can see Trump for what he really is. A lying, arrogant POS for sure. The absolute worst kind.

I'm sure there will be no unkind words on this forum about Trump on the day he passes away. 😄

I'm sure all the bitter hateful leftists will be entirely respectful just like they were with Kirk.

Ah. Well, I’m neither bitter nor hateful (I think you’re just projecting there -- which is understandable, as there’s not much left in defense of this utter trainwreck of an administration). I am, however, so far to the left it would make your head spin, and I will indeed be dancing on the day Trump drops dead: it will be a great day for humanity, and I won’t be alone.

I would much prefer, however, that the next administration aggressively prosecute a still-breathing Trump for the various crimes he’s committed, “immunity” be damned, and throw him in jail where he belongs. The sentencing judge should specify that all the gold-leaf baubles with which he’s desecrated the Oval Office be bolted to his jail cell walls, as a signal of the ultimate emptiness of his life. Who was it in this forum who revised Shelley’s “Ozymandias” a few months ago …

Which will make you no better than him in that regard.

Nope, not at all; wanting to see justice done does not entail hatred or bitterness. It’s simply my right -- in fact it’s my duty, as a US citizen -- to demand it. (I’ll admit, my comment on the gold baubles that Trump always reaches for was a bit on the snarky side, but I can’t hold a candle to Trump fans when it comes to snark.)

Someone holding important public office should show some discrimination in what they say.

It might be possible for Mueller to return from the dead.

Depends upon one's belief system, I guess.

A highly thought-provoking perspective on this was posted by a writer on Twitter (X). It's too long to quote the entire thing (probably against forum rules too) but here's just a taste of it.

For those who have time, I think it's well worth the read.

Seventy million people have decided that this man, this specific man who has cheated everyone he has ever made a promise to, who has mocked the disabled and the dead and the grieving, who celebrated tonight while a family wept, is an instrument of God. The pastors who made that bargain did not just trade away their credibility. They traded away the thing that made them worth listening to in the first place. The cross they carry now is a costume. The faith they preach is a loyalty oath with scripture attached. When the history of American Christianity is written, this will be the chapter they skip at seminary.

That’s rich, coming from someone who defends the biggest liar of them all. That’s what I find pretty odd. Double standard much?

You also said you’ll take someone who speaks the truth about how they feel. How about when Charlie Kirk was killed? What was your reaction then when someone said something about him you didn’t like?

Although I don’t remember anyone in (high) office coming even close to saying anything like the hateful garbage Trump posted about Mueller. But MAGA (and I suspect you as well) already lost their sh!t when anyone didn’t mourn Charlie Kirk enough to their liking. Double standard much?

Your hatred for trump clouds your thinking. I never said trumps name, not once.
Muller is a liar.

Charlie Kirk, can't help you with that. I didn't know a single thing about him. Didn't care then, I don't care now.

Mueller and the left used the full force of the DOJ attempting to ruin Trump, Trump's family, and everyone associated with the administration with a baseless investigation.

The left thinks that's great.

Trump makes a negative comment about the guy that tried to ruin him, and the left howls it's the end of democracy.

Not just the left is looking forward to Trump breathing his last sooner rather than later. Any rational human being is looking forward to that, because Trump is a vile and despicable excuse for a man. He's not only wrecking the USA, he is now wrecking the entire planet, wrecking the economy, wrecking the environment, while he himself is raking in billions of dollars by being the most corrupt US president ever, by far.

And MAGA got hundreds (thousands?) of people fired for not mourning Charlie Kirk's death "properly". They're making fun of people getting killed by ICE for no reason. Donald Trump jr. made fun of Pelosi's husband almost getting beaten to death. Some Utah Republican representative a-hole joked about Minnesota representative Melissa Hortman and her husband being assassinated. And that's just the tip of the festering hate-iceberg that is MAGA.

Normal people, especially world leaders do not speak like this when someone dies.

My mother said that if you don’t have something good to say about someone, then say nothing. I’ll leave it at that.

I am sure that most people including a lot of Americans will be happy when Donald J Trump is voted out of power

and out of government. This dinosaur needs to retire. Just like Biden was too old when he finally retired, I believe

that Trump is far to old to be the President. I have never seen any world leader be so childish than Trump, and will

never have any respect for this man. Thankfully I do not live in the USA.

The English language is blessed with a multitude of adjectives, nouns, verbs and idioms to describe the character of someone like Trump.

But sometimes just one word will do:

scum.

Trump has told more lies than anyone ever in the oval office all easily verified by watching him say one thing one day and the next day claiming he never said it...over and over and over, in his own words on HD video and audio. You would have to be brain dead deaf and dumb not to know this.

Hear no evil, See no evil.

Troll post trying to bypass forum filters removed @Slowhand225

Certain terms and acronyms are being used in a manner that is both antagonising and inflammatory. It is important to recognise that the issue lies not in the terms and acronyms themselves or the validity of what they stand for, but in the derogatory context in which they are most commonly employed.

For instance, the acronym "TDS," standing for "Trump Derangement Syndrome," is not a recognised medical condition but rather an urban phrase. It is frequently used as a means to belittle or mock individuals with differing political views. Such usage is inherently derogatory and contributes to a toxic conversational environment.

I thought it was unnecessary from Trump.

But the outrage from individuals who would openly and vociferously celebrate his death is a tad hypocritical, no?
