Trump Says AI Will Be Renamed ‘Super Intelligence’

President Trump told the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday that artificial intelligence will be renamed “super intelligence” in all United States documents.

Speaking at the global body, he said the US rejected efforts to build a “globality scheme” aimed at controlling the technology, adding that the technology would be referred to as “super intelligence”. He also argued that changing the label would better reflect the nature of the system.

Trump Rejects Global Control Plan

Trump said Washington “totally rejects” attempts to create an international approach to manage artificial intelligence, which he said has been discussed widely in recent months.

He said the proposed name change would begin immediately in American paperwork, and he suggested that other countries should follow. He told the UN that “from this point forward” the United States would use “super” rather than “artificial” in its documents.

‘Artificial’ Sounds Like Intelligence Is Fake

Trump said the term “artificial” makes intelligence “sound fake”, and insisted that the technology was not deceptive. He added that the label is the opposite of what it implies, while calling the new term more accurate.

“Welcome to the new world of super intelligence — SI,” he said, suggesting the change would be preferable and more precise.

Super Intelligence Defined as Beyond Humans

The White House terminology mirrors an existing concept: “super intelligence” is commonly defined as a form of AI that exceeds human intelligence.

It is described as the ultimate target of many frontier AI firms, while also being viewed by critics as the biggest concern among those warning about potential threats to humanity.

Debate Over Regulation Intensifies

Trump’s remarks came as fears about AI have surged following warnings from a former Anthropic researcher. The researcher said AI could soon destroy humanity, according to the reporting that has heightened concern around the technology.

In Washington, the worries have fed debate about whether the technology should be regulated. Trump has pushed for less regulation, arguing it would help the United States outperform China in an “AI arms race”.

AI is expected to remain a focus this week. It is on the agenda at the UN General Assembly, and it is also likely to be discussed as Chinese President Xi Jinping arrives in Washington for a state visit with Trump.
