Traditional Thai Massage In Pattaya

Does anyone have any recomendations for traditional Thai massage by qualified masseurs in Pattaya?
There's a rustic little place out in Nakula called Baan Thai. I forget the address but it's on the east side of the main road, not far from Soi Potisan.

I've used the blind massage place in Jomtien a few times, they ask if you have a problem and work on it for you, sorted a joint problem for me cheap as well.

Blind massage also in Naklua, excellent and cheaper than regular massage places.

Go to dolphin roundabout and take Naklua Road. Off Naklua Road take the second soi on the left and go about 250 yards down on the left, there is a big garden in front.

You can have 1 or 2 hours, hard or soft, man or woman.

You are also doing good by providing work for unfortunate people who cannot earn a living other ways.

I'm a regular weekly customer of the Blue House Massage Centre, on Second Road oppsite the entrance to the Montien Hotel.

2 hours for 300 baht... air con... clean... service performed by trained masseuses.

The older masseuses even get the younger ones to practice their techniques on them during quiet times.

Highly recommended. :o

I like the place on Pattaya Central Rd close to the corner with Pattaya Third Road (close to Carrefour). If you go to the Pattaya Central Rd and Pattaya Third Road intersection and walk towards Carrefour it will be on the corner of an alley and Pattaya Central Road. Best message in town...about half the customers are thai and the other half are farang (so you know it must be good). Be sure to tip!

Oh...yah...2 hour Thai message 240 baht, 1 hour oil 200 baht.

I know it's up to you, but please give an idea of how much. For a 2 hour Thai massage at 240-300 baht, are farang supposed to add 100, 200 or even 300 baht? I've had negative reactions to 100 baht, and of course VERY positive ones to thy few times I've added 300.

But I hear, true or not, that Thai people hardly tip at all, and expats living permanently in Thailand consider themselves on par with the Thais.

Anyhow, it's worth it. For every Thai massage you live a week longer...

I usually tip 100 baht for a good 2 hour massage.

Never any more.

I'm surprised you say you've had negative reactions... was it just a massage?

Posted

100bht quite good - roughly what I tip! No bad reaction either - whole purpose is to get regular client and they know you can easily go to another massuese or the 100 other odd establishments. I've always been treated well. :o

You guys are making me feel a bit of a tight wallet!

I asked around long term farangs and some Thai friends and was told to tip about 20 baht!!

That would be on a one hour massage costing anything from 100 to 250 baht.

I used to tip at least 50 baht when here on holidays before. I think that 20 to 40 baht is fine, never had any strange looks and have visited same masseuses/establishments on several occasions.

I don't think the size of the tip makes any difference to the massage you get ... either masseuse is good and cares about doing job well or doesn't, the tip in my experience makes no difference. If I have an exceptional massage I'll maybe tip substantially more.

I have found that there are relatively few who really know what they are doing - I've had hundreds (actually probably thousands) of massages and most of those have been adequate, some physically dangerous and the amazing minority excruciating but heavenly afterwards :-)

Anyone can take a massage course and get a certificate, same as any study course, so the best solution is to try and get a personal recommendation. I can't help with Pattaya but Banchang I can if anyone is interested.

To be honest man tipping is up to you in Thailand.

Just remember Thais very very rarely tip.

Chinese Thai extremely rare.

If it makes you feel good then tip away it will always be liked.

This is no slur on the massage parlors just a general note about

Thailand.

Have a nice day. :o

As i remember about 6 months ago town hall got concerned that unqualified masseurs were doing more harm than good , so they set up a course , anyone failing to attend the course would not get there certificate of competence , and after the 4 hour course all 400 passed, it was quite amazing ( i think it only cost them 200 baht each )

It's not true. I'm really good friends with many of the massage people. The tip from a Thai is about the same as a tip from a farang. Yesterday, I randomly asked my friend how much her farang customer tipped for an oil massage --30 baht. The day before I asked how much a Thai tipped--500 baht (but she said he only gave that much because she said she was going home for a week to visit the family).

So, it's abosolutly not true. I tip 140 baht for a 2 hour 240 baht massage (but agree 100 baht is reasonable...and shouldn't be frown on). I don't mind giving money to the poor girls who work so much harder than the bar girls you tip 300-400+ baht for sex. Besides, the tip goes 100% to the girls and 0% to the owners (usually).

Thais ALWAYS tip for massages. They almost NEVER tip for restaurants. Has anyone ever seen any of the bathroom boys give a massage to a thai that didn't tip? They always tip for massages.

Would be interested in where you can get a good massage in Ban Chang?

Ther used to be a place on the right on the way to Rayong. To be honest I have not noticed if it is still there. Next time I am down that way I'll check.

I'll describe where it is, in the hope you are familiar with Banchang, if you need better info let me know.

Sattahip end of Sukhumvit as you enter Banchang on the right, the road that goes towards beach (just about opposite the daily night market) - if driving in from Sattahip you have to do a u-turn at the first set of lights about 50/100 metres past market. Leads to Eastern Star golf course and has a large green billboard sign just by entrance to road. A few hundred metres along, the road opens up into double lanes and as it does there is a small soi on right, with 'Thai Massage' board just discernible. About 20 metres into this road on right hand side is small terraced house, massage sign outside (probably best to park on side of main road, maybe at restaurant opposite soi, where the owner knows the massage lady).

Two hour massage is 300 baht, she works for herself so you'll probably need to book, especially in evening. I'll try and get contact number in next couple of days. I'm assuming you speak Thai (for some reason), but if not I'll get number for her friend at restaurant who speaks sufficient English to sort things out.

She has strong thumbs/fingers and if you can suffer a bit of pain I reckon worth a visit.

I have also been to Banchang Palace a couple of times with my girlfriend and we've both had good massages there, different ladies each time. Cost 200 baht for 2 hour massage ... and same price for 1 hour! However it is a little decayed and the mattresses could do with a clean :-), but if you want a bit of atmosphere, masseuse taking calls on her mobile as she massages, inane tv game show in background (until you've had enough and ask them to turn it off), then this could be the place to go ... and the girls sit behind a pane of glass, ready for your selection if you feel so inclined.

I feel you base all your information on your time in Pattaya.

This is not a good yard stick for this topic when it comes to money.

Well, this topic IS in the Pattaya Forum.

ALWAYS might not be the correct word, but Thai's DO tip more than they do for restaurants and other services (where Western's might normally tip more). So it is giving the wrong impression that Thai's do not tip for massages based on their tipping records with restaurants and other services. In the recently published book on modern day Thai culture titled "Very Thai" (which I would recommend to people) under the massage section, the authors (who have over a decade worth of experience living in Thailand) claim it IS thai culture to tip at massage parlors.

The quote about 500 baht tip from a Thai isn't a joke (and I'm not being gullable and being lied to by a young mistress)...I've lived in Pattaya 1 year and go to this massage place 2-3 times a week and have known this particular person 7 months but some of her friends I've known 3+ years. She isn't lying and I'm not an old sex tourist who is prone to being bullshitted too. I can however tell you that when you ask a Thai masseur if she has a boyfriend and she says NO, she's probably lying (Thai's generally don't like getting traditional massages from non-single girls).

I too would concur with this... if a Thai is wealthy enough to pay for a massage in one of these air-cond places, he knows that the service staff are not very well paid, and that the value of his tip (and their other customers) is what these people generally rely on to supplement their meagre incomes.

Thais do tip the service staff in restaurants as well... but it is almost never as much as they would tip a masseuse.

Anyway, we're getting a bit :o

Let's get back to talking about good traditional massage places in Pattaya.

Yes it is off topic but your not going to stamp on this with your capitalization

of words, do you think that give some weight to your statements .( not with me)

Sorry your wrong, like I said a general comment on tipping in Thailand.

But you tried to piss on my fireworks. ( tried that is).

You are talking about a small percentage of the populous ( rich Thaïs)

How many of these in Thailand 10%, 20%, 30% 40% ?

what about the rest of the people in this country do they never have a massage.

Well they do in the towns and villages I have been to and there they pay the going rate like every thing else, No tip is expected or sort. Just the job in hand

sorry thats pattaya. :D

Have a nice day

I remember the training course the massage people received. About one year ago city

hall had a training day for the massage people. City hall was concerned that

inserfienct training would lead to injury. 400 people turned up for the training day and

each applicant paid city hall 200bht for the day event. The day event turned into a

four hour event. At which time all 400 applicants passed the exam then became a

qualified masseur.

So if you are looking for a qualified masseur there are about 400 of them at this time

in the Pattaya area.

Pretty obvious isn't it John? :D

However, rather than rubbishing him, I suggest that he tries going to a few more Thai oriented places... some of the Thai restaurants, pubs, and clubs on Third Road maybe, and just sit and observe how the Thai customers interact with the service staff.

Anyway, :o
