Hi fellow thaivisa users.

I ask of you for a favor.

Could you please try to go www.webtwist-design.com

Just the front page you dont need to "enter" tell me if

its possible for you to do.

If you could then tell me what ISP you have and what result,

if you could reach the site or not and if your located abroad

please inform me too.

It would be greatly appreciated.

I have True and I cannot access the site, Ive talked to people

abroad and they have no problem accessing the site and one

guy from Thailand using "Buddy internet" seem to be able to

reach the site too.

This is very frustrating for me and I need any help possible

because TRUE's staff is clueless.

Thank you in advance.

Cheers

I'm not sure why this happens in Thailand but I hear about it alot. A website you could reach earlier but now can't. You check other internet cafes and you can reach the website.

With this being Thailand, chances are you will asked to do many things before you reach the correct solution.

Convince your ISP to change your IP address.

Home page working here, ToT/Pacific Internet. (phuket)

Most of the time problems like this are caused by congestions on routes from the ISP, or DNS problems (ToT is so so famous for changing 4 times a year it's fishy DNS, i had to setup a DNS server for the Net Caffé i work for to improve that).

just try to do a nslookup www.webtwist-design.com, from a command line, if you don't get anyresults it is the DNS not working properly.

TOT ipstar ...... can't access it.

Can't even ping it. The last lines of an incomplete traceroute show this.

Tried that here at Chiangmai using ping and it resolves to 72.29.86.3, but using either the name or the IP I get timeouts. Also traceroute seems to stop before reaching the site.

well so it's a route problem, one of the node router somewhere in asia is not working properly. As you may or may not know, connection to websites goes through Japan or Usa before reaching websites even hosted in europe (good to know that we have to take a full travel arround earth for that) and even some websites hosted in thailand aren't being processed directly.

Got to wait for the routes to be fixed, only thing that can be done is trying to get a competant technicien from your isp (who said mission impossible ! :o) and ask them to investigate the route problem they may be able to switch route if possible (though it's usually an automated process).

Alternative way is to use proxys, yeah i know it's not allowed to be discussed but it's one of the solution to get to websites that aren't even blacklisted by MICT.

:o

I called true and found out that the advisor i talked to with yesterday had absolutely written nothing on my case and it wasnt sent to the technicians as promised.

I talked to a nice girl (poor her) and she talked with the technicians, they estimate it will take them one week to fix my problem. Woow I got quite angry and told them this is not just a site i cant reach but its my clients, server everything. I want to check with Buddy and see if they can see my site ( they couldnt see my site at the true call center) then everything is going to Buddy and that will be fixed phone, cable tv (if possible, i dont know) internet and mobiles. I just want to get as far away as possible from true.

Hey Mods

What happened to my post about using a Proxy ?

He can connect to his website using it.

Links to proxies is against forum rules. If you have info then PM him, but please do not repost it here.

As for the OP's original question, this is why the website can't be loaded:

Tracing route to webtwist-design.com [72.29.86.3]

over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms gatekeeper.local.digitallymine.com [172.20.254.254]

2 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms gateway.local.digitallymine.com [172.30.0.1]

6 4 ms 4 ms 4 ms 202.47.247.250

7 202.47.254.129 reports: Destination host unreachable.

Trace complete.

Something seems to be wrong with the route setup here in Thailand. This is a trace from Hong Kong and it works just fine: http://traceroute.pacific.net.hk/cgi-bin/n...wist-design.com

As you may or may not know, connection to websites goes through Japan or Usa before reaching websites even hosted in europe (good to know that we have to take a full travel arround earth for that) and even some websites hosted in thailand aren't being processed directly.

That's not true. Data flows directly to Europe on the C&W link from Bangkok to London, or TIS (Telecom Italia Sparkle/Seabone) link from Bangkok to Italy, or the FT (France Telecom) link from Bangkok to France, or through Singtel (Singapore) depending on the IP of the destination. When I'm in college and trace back to Thailand, its the same case.

Here's a trace out to my server in Germany:

Hop 8 is here in Bangkok and Hop 9 is basically in London. Take a look at the NECTEC connectivities map for 04/2007 (latest) here: http://202.44.204.43/webstats/internetmap_...rnetmap_current

(the bandwidth in/out of this country doubled since Jan 07, which is good news..)

This one seems 'processed directly' to Asia :o . Hop 10 is London Internet Exchange and Hop 11 is Singtel in Singapore.

I am using TRUE adsl in Bangkok and have no problem with access just now. I am using 208.67.222.222 (in USA) as my primary DNS server however so that might be the reason.

Nice. OpenDNS.

Here's my list of DNS servers I use (in order of preference) because I find them quite fast in responding:

202.14.67.14 (Pacific Internet HK, Secondary Server)

202.47.249.4 (CAT)

165.21.83.88 (Singtel)

202.14.67.4 (Pacific Internet HK, Primary Server)

I don't find a problem with the Thai DNS servers over caching. How would they do that? The servers do not cache over the TTL of the DNS entry.

@Paveet : Fair enough, they changed route then because a little more than one year ago it was the case (it was even official at the time in news paper from some officials from CAT that international connections did go through Japan and then the USA and so connections to Europe where slow because of this).

Glad to hear things are moving :o

To be fair I was being a bit harsh by not telling you it only actually happened at the end of last year. The new initiative of having links out to Europe (through C&W, TIS and FT) only came after the recent Taiwanese earth quake.

At least they're learning!

Since I do sell space on that particular server, I put a ticket in, but, I do not believe that it will do any good, as they will not see the problem let alone be able to fix it. I love living in Thailand, but sometime it can be so trying.

I am also on the TRUE adsl line in Bangkok, and... can not get to the site directly:

Network Error

A communication error occurred: "Operation timed out"

The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time.

For assistance, contact your network support team.

But with a cgiproxy (on my USA server) I'm coneccted without problems.

Given the very useful data herein presented, may I ask if someone can clarify to whom request for 'fixes' should be sent, and what these fixes are. My assumption is that there is a {or more than 1?} routing failure and that it appears to be in-country {though I'm not sure 'who' it belongs to} and that a fix is possible.

Any further guidance would be most appreciated so that any conversation might be both meaningful and successful.

More weirdness ..... I do remember the lively conversation and promotion of that p2p Thailand hub where

illegal files were exchanged. Oops .. no that was only for legal purposes.

I am sorry, the only thing you can do is making a lot of traceroute screenshots, ask your ISP if they have a service support email. Send them the mentionned screenshots showing where it's failing (at what ips it starts to get serious time out, unresolvable ips etc). If they are competant enough and not too lazy they may diligeantly make it work asap. But don't bet on that :o
