Hi Folks,

I have a Thai wife and I am looking at settling in Thailand. I am a well qualified IT professional from India and am looking for jobs in Thailand but don't seem to get many responses???

Is there a special provision for work permit/work visa rules if I am married to a Thai national.I also have a son who is 7 months old and he also has been registered as a Thai citizen.

Looking forward to your advice.

Thanks for reminding me ... but my wife is with me in India so thought would get some advice from folks living in Thailand.

The requirements for obtaining an alien work permit are the same regardless whether you are married to a Thai or not, whether you have a Thai child or not.

When it comes to the annual extension of stay, marriage to a Thai can make a difference, but that was not your question and is something for you to look at if and when you find employment in Thailand.

Regarding visa rules, you should check with the Thai consulate in your country if it will give you a multiple-entry non-O visa for the purpose of visiting family. If this is refused, you should at least get a single-entry non-O visa.

There are many local IT professionals in Thailand these days,

so companies will be reluctant to employ you.

To get you a work permit they have to show that they cannot find a suitable

candidate in the local market.

You will need special skills/experience to get a job.

Personal contacts will be your best chance
