TEST YOUR MATHS

-There is a bus with 7 Girls

-Each girl carries 7 bags

-Inside each bag there is 7 cats

-Every cat has 7 kittens

-All cats have 4 legs each

Question: How many legs are in the bus?

will check back later

Is it a Thai bus? Reason I asked is there is the driver, the guy that talks to the driver, the guy that takes the money, the guy that jumps off to buy the cans of Chang for the driver and the waving guy that jumps off on every corner.

only the cats have 4 legs .... ? what about the kittens ?? ..... and the girls are they normal girls ....... ? or tripods?

and as Irish says ....... how many hangers on on the bus ?

or if you want me to be sensible ...

7 girls x 7 bags = 49 bags

49 bags x 7 cats each = 343 cats

343 cats x 4 legs each = 1372 cat legs

343 cats x 7 kittens = 2401 kittens

2401 kittens x 4 legs = 9604 kitten legs

7 girls x 2 legs = 14 girls legs

1372 cat legs + 9604 kitten legs + 14 girls legs = 10990 legs.

If there is also a driver there would be 10992 legs ++++++ other hangers on ?

edit: not including the legs of any of the seats or benches either. AND if it is in Thailand the driver was probably legless anyway!! :o

I figured it like this up to this point, and then took the kittens out of the equation because it says "Inside each bag there is 7 cats". The kittens aren't in the bags / hence not on the bus.

7 girls x 2 legs = 14 girls legs

1372 cat legs + 14 girls legs = 1386 legs.

AND if it is in Thailand the driver was probably legless anyway!! :D

:o Yup- take him out of the equation also!!

10990 is the correct answer

Since kittens are cats as well, I guess the kittens are not inside the bags but still inside the bus ("inside each bag there are 7 cats")? But then it is said that "every cat has 7 kittens", which confuses the whole thing even more (do the kittens have kittens, and so on?). Oh well, I know what the OP means. I am just trying to show off. :o

Anyway, there are additional correct answers to this puzzle. For example (this is only one variation):

It is said that each girl carries 7 bags, and that each bag contains 7 cats. Then it is of course possible with a situation where each girl has put bag number one inside bag number two, and then those two bags inside bag number three and so on all the way to bag number 7. Each girl then puts seven cats inside bag number one, and we have a situation where each girl carries 7 bags, all of them containing 7 cats.

So: Each girl now has seven bags and only seven (adult) cats (instead of 49). This leads to:

- 7 girls with 7 cats each: 7 x 7 x 4 = 196 (adult cat) legs

- The 7 girls have a total of 49 (adult) cats. This means: 49 x 7 kittens and 49 x 7 x 4 = 1372 (kitten) legs.

- The 7 girls have a total of 7 x 2 = 14 (girl) legs.

The total numbers of legs in this scenario is thus: 196 + 1372 + 14 = 1582
