Two South Korean Women found dead on Larn Island.

Police were called to Tarai Beach on Larn Island early on Friday Morning to investigate the discovery of 2 bodies thought to be two South Korean Tourists. Specialist Forensic Officers from Chonburi joined Pattaya Police and Tourist Police Officers at the site as they attempted to determine the cause of death.

Evidence was littered around the shoreline and the bodies were closely inspected by forensic teams who determined that one of the women had died after her head was smashed against a stone.

It is then thought the body was dragged into the water and the second woman who is thought to have killed her, tied her hands together with the victim and it is thought she then committed suicide by drowning, using the weight of the dead woman to pull her under the water. The identity of the two women is unclear, however a torn up passport was fond on the beach featuring the name, Park Ji Hee.

Witnesses mentioned that the two women were seen hand-in-hand on a beach near the crime scene, the night before the incident and there was no evidence that they were fighting in any way. Despite this, Forensic Teams are confident that a third party was not involved in the case which is ongoing at this time in conjunction with the Korean Embassy in Bangkok.

This is an absurd theory by Pattaya police. I know there has been a lot of bad publicity recently regarding the number of killings of male and female farang tourists in Thailand, but to make wild theories, whilst the bodies are still on the beach and not yet examined properley in just absurd.

How many female Korean tourists come to Thailand to kill each other on an island?

This is almost certainly a double homicide. If they bother to examine the bodies they might well find evidence of rape. So how can they say there is no third party involved?

'thought'....... :D

Indeed a very weird assumption by the police but even more weird that 'forensic teams (...) determined that the women (must be woman I think) died because her head was smashed against a stone.......by the first woman being her girlfriend.

And later both women were found in the water, all 4 hands tied together...and thus the 2nd woman committed suicide by drowning herself...? :o:D

Even a Hollywood suspense writer couldn't have created such a story....

I dont know where to start?

arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

How the bloody hel_l does a woman tie her hands to the dead body of her lover( that she murdred) so tight that she would not of been able to escape when she dragged herself into water deep enough to drown in. The bodys self preservation mechanism would kick in when near death, so no matter how much a person wants to die by drowning , if they could escape they would. This means she would of had to tie herself very securely to her dead girlfriend. Now just try and tie yourself up. Now imagine you have to tie yourself to a dead limp body and drag at least 40 kilos along without loosening up your ropes.

I will always come to Thailand as I have done for the last 6 years or so. However if I was someone looking to come to Thailand for the first time I would have to reconsider if I read half the stories of tourists murders and the police's conclusion to these murders. How long will they keep getting away with treating Farangs like mindless fools. Unfortunately it seems that the Local Thai's will beleave any old crap there papers and news programmes tell them. If they don't beleave it they will not question it. This being through fear or Mai pen Rai ness who knows?

Anybody got any statistics on the murder rate( or should we say suspicious deaths) of Farangs in Thailand. How does it compare to other places? I bet its real bad!

If Thailands tourists stop coming the people of Thailand can stand up take a bow and say "Mai pen rai" Time for the people of Thailand to say "enough" start asking question? It may happen ,but only after things have gone wrong, when the tourists stop coming and the rich start to notice there wealth evaporating.

Now normally words do not escape me and I am pretty robust when it comes to the llies and attempted cover up proposed by Thai police but this one takes the biscuit.

Even more than the suicide of the Scottish guy on the pier close to Pattaya with his hands tied and a rock attached to his legs or the plastic bag and handcusffs suicide in the Die Nasty Soi 4 Bangkok in 99 (the Die Nasty one although put down to suicide eventually had a murder confession from the Pakistani who cut up the fgirls and left them in pieces all over soi 3)

Its like medieval Europe - some poo yai offers an explanation and points to witches, full moon or whatever and the Thai's like the village idiots a lot of them are all have to beleive him as he is a puu yai

Wow, this is a very very strange report. I'ved read a Thai version and it's very different. It said the two Koreans were murdered and the police are looking for the murderer(s) right now.

It really makes me wonder who wrote this English piece. I just hope it's not someone who's extremely bitter and has evil intentions against Thailand.

Posted (edited)

Here's a Thai version for anyone who can read Thai:

สลด!! 2 นักเที่ยวสาวกิมจิโดนตีตายริมหาดพัทยา

"ศูนย์ข่าวศรีราชา- พบศพ 2 นักท่องเที่ยวสาวชาวเกาหลี ถูกคนร้ายใช้ของแข็งทุบกะโหลกเสียชีวิต ก่อนชิงทรัพย์หลบหนี ตร.เตรียมระดมกำลังไล่ล่าคนร้าย"

The highlighted part says, the police are hunting for the murderer(s). So how did the English report say a such completely different thing and make the Thai cops look like a joke? Was it an honest journalistic mistake or actually someone who wanna humiliate Thai police and Thailand? Is this some kind of a sick joke from someone at Pattaya City News?

Edited by ThNiner

It basically says that the police believe there were at least two suspects involved in this murder.

So where did Pattaya City News get their story from? And why is it so diferent from the reports by Thai language media?

Ahh the MIB have out done themselves again, this has to be one of the silliest conclusions of a case I have ever heard. :D

Howard, please tell me this was some sort of mistake by the translator???? :o

I would sincerely hope that in addition to apprehending and punishing the perpetrators of this crime the Pattaya police come down like a ton of bricks on the moronic cretin that wrote that piece.

RIP to the women and condolences to their families.

Bangkok Post today; Korean Tourists Slain

CHON BURI: Two female Korean tourists have been found bludgeoned to death on Koh Lan in Pattaya. As of yesterday, police were trying to identify both bodies found on Ta Rai beach in the afternoon. One of the victims was P... J. H.., according to her passport. They said one victim, aged between 25-30 had her hands tied behind her back and had several head wounds. The other victim's body was found nearby, also with head wounds. Their bags were empty and the picture pages on their passports were torn up. Cans of beer and a bottle of alcohol were found at the scene. Police suspected the two had been dead for about 12 hours when they were found and that at least two robbers had attacked them.

I just hope that the families were notified before their names were printed, I've left them out. Two very conflicting reports in the press, my thoughts go to the two women and their families.

Libya115, maybe this is the local Jokes Section.

most probably the theory about suicide was the first one presented by the police and published by the pattaya news, before the second theory about homicide was made

Lets hope the Thai Police solve this one quickly, RIP to the Lady's and condolences to their family's.

Sounds like they have already solved this one - whilst sitting on their elbows!

I'm not so quick to rule out a murder-suicide here.

All the makings of it are there, including the empty bottles of whiskey, and that they were lesbian lovers according to witnesses, and had money in their pockets.

Obviously, the method of suicide in the PCN story is almost certainly wrong, but although it is, it doesn't mean a murder-suicide didn't happen.

Money in the pockets. Robbery?

I'm 50/50 right now on double homicide or murder-suicide.

(Maybe she tried to sink her lover's body in the water to hide it and failed and then killed herself)

According to the Bangkok Post, both women had head injuries, their bags were empty, and holding hands in Asia doesn't neccessarily imply lesbianism or homosexuality, bit soon to make a call like that considering the seriousness of the event

PATTAYA POLICE WITH EMBASSY COLLECT MORE EVIDENCE OF TWO MURDERED KOREAN WOMEN

According to the report on April 11, 2008 about two Korean tourist women were murdered, Korean Embassy in coordinated with Pattaya police, collected more evidence from the incident where the two Korean tourist women were found dead around a deserted area, near the reefs on Tha-Rai beach, Koh Larn (Coral Island), Naklua, Chonburi.

On April 12, 2008, at 11am, Pattaya police officers had coordinated with Korean Embassy of Thailand to collect more evidence and gathered the information about the death of two Korean women. They had found out that the victims did not travel with a group tour. They had traveled around Koh Larn privately and expected to leave on the same day as there was no accommodation booking record on the Island. Police made observations that, the bodies were found dead at a place which was very far away from the community and very difficult to access, very disordered with thick woods along the way. The two deceased bodies were found there suspiciously. However, police team took an hour to investigate the area.

Pol.Lt.Col.Sumeht Hanwisai, Pattaya investigator, the officer who is in charge of the case, had stated that this murder case is in the several aspects with no clarification whether it was a robbery or a murderousness. The wounds on their heads were the evidence that it was a murder, the autopsy had stated. The spot where the bodies were found was about 50 meters away from the sea, obviously there was no water would get to the dead bodies but the autopsy found some bubbles in the their blood.

South Korean twins found dead on Thai beach

BANGKOK: Twin sisters from South Korea have been found dead on a beach near Thailand's famous Pattaya resort town, local police and the South Korean foreign ministry said Sunday.

The women, aged 27, had apparently drowned, and police are investigating whether it was murder, a double-suicide, or an accident, said Lieutenant Colonel Sumeth Harnvisai.

"Initial forensic reports indicate that there were no wounds on the bodies, and the water found in their lungs suggests they drowned," he told AFP.

The bodies were discovered near each other on Lan Island off the coast of eastern Thailand early Friday morning, he said. A page ripped from a passport found near the bodies indicated they were South Korean.

Seoul's foreign ministry later identified the women as Park Ji-Hee and Park Mi-Hee. They gave no other details.

Pattaya is one of Thailand's most popular tourist destinations, but also has a seamy reputation for crime rings, sex tourism and hedonism. Two female Russian tourists were found shot dead and slumped in deckchairs on a Pattaya beach last year.

Sorry Sriracha John, but I can't see the 'factual' updates yet.

The report says they were found on a 'beach'. Please open this link below and you can see on the photos that this is not a beach but a very rocky/coral kind of place, far out and remote:

http://www.pattayadailynews.com/shownews.p...NEWS=0000005671

If they drowned it wasn't because of voluntary swimming since one of the twins is dressed; can't see anything on the other photo though.

I wonder why the first reports mentioned that their 'hands' were tied up. If that was not the case who on earth would make something like that up ? :o

But, all in all another pair of tragic deaths, now twins how sad....:D

2. Names

3. Relationships

The report says they were found on a 'beach'.

Which is, in a general connotation, not only limited in reference to a sandy surf-side location.

2 Korean Sisters Found Dead in Thailand

Two South Korean women, who were found dead in Thailand, Friday, turned out to be twin sisters, according to Seoul police.

The bodies of the sisters were discovered off Tarai Beach on Larn Island near the Thai east coast early Friday morning.

The identification came out Sunday afternoon after their fingerprints were sent to the South Korean authorities on Sunday morning.

But the cause of death has not been confirmed as an investigation is under way. The Korean Embassy in Bangok is in close contact with the local police, a Foreign Affairs-Trade Ministry official said Sunday.

An autopsy of their bodies was also made later that day at a hospital in Thailand by the Thai forensic police with the presence of Korean police to find the cause of death, but there was no external wound on both bodies, different from the early speculations, the police said.

The police suspected that the twins were drowned to death with the lungs of the twins full of water and added that there is slim possibility that they were murdered given their money were left in their pocket.

The police are now tracing what they did in where on the day of the death to investigate if it was an accident or suicide.

The twins arrived in Thailand in May of 2006 and they had previously lived together in Hongje-dong, Seoul.

Wonder what they were doing in Thailand for almost 2 years.

What an odd and tragic case.
