If you are married to a Thai, and you also want to work here, then there is

only one sensible approach to take.

First get your Non-Imm O visa and extend it on the basis of your marriage and supporting your spouse (and child).

After this you can apply for a work permit, in conjunction with a suitable job.

It is very important to do things in this order, or you will find yourself in the same

boat as Utopia, who has been writing to the Bangkok Post this last week (5th Oct).

He put the job first and his visa is linked to his work permit.

His employer has decided to dispense with his services and has cancelled the work

permit.

As a result Utopia has been given 7 days to depart the Kingdom, leaving behind his

wife, child,

a mortgage on a condo and a loan on a car.

A sad, but avoidable situation.

Yeah, I read this story. Perhaps not a member of Thai Visa?

Still for this guy should be possible to talk and explain to immigration.

Years ago, while my WP was still under processing my wife went to immigration to apply for extension on her non-imm O and confirmed to me over the phone, she got her stamp. (I was travelling outside of LoS)

Yes, she got here stamp but did'nt even realize it read: "extension not permitted, must leave within 7 days."

Took a trip to the immigration office, explained and she was connected to my visa. No more problems. Sometime you have to talk.

About to apply for my Non-Imm O at NYC, USA Thai Consulate, having just applied for my US born daughter's Thai Birth Certificate and Thai Passport (took my 1 yr old cutie in to the consulate - they were super nice - let us apply for both at the same time with the hopes that things would come in under the normal 2 month time frame).

Just Occurred to me though, I'll be applying for my single entry "O" on the basis of visiting my Thai wife, but she's here in the US with me and will be with me when I apply for the O at the Consulate in NYC. Know its silly, but this seems like a contradiction.

Also, assuming that I don't find a job within 2 months of arriving in Thailand, it has been suggested(I've seen a post or two in which lopburi3 mentions something like this) that first time round you can supply immigration with your credentials(for myself this will be my degree , transcripts, work history, and general good looks :D ) and tell them that I'm currently looking for a job and ask for extension on that basis. Next extension round will be either have a job or Show Them The Money.

Not a contradiction and not a problem. Wife will be going to Thailand with you I assume. :o

My advise on application for first time extension is based on threads from the Nong Khai immigration forum website and believe they are well worth a try. Good looks is the clincher. :D
