Thought For The Day

Featured Replies

“Thought for the Day” had been running for quite some time on the Buddhist forum of Thaivisa, but has just been closed – apparently some of the thoughts were not sufficiently Buddhist enough.

Be that as it may. I was wondering if it would be possible – with the minimum of restrictions – to continue this thread here?

I know we are risking the brainless ones who will post wonders such as “Get it out and give it a twist everyday” or “The only cheek you should give your Mother-in-Law is on your backside” or worse etc. etc. but perhaps, you never know – “Pigs might fly”- maybe, someone might post something that could be called:

...good idea this, Tom :o

Before I join in another of Thomas Merton's threads, will he promise not to have it closed if someone from a royal family dies?

There are more than a few Royal families (not the Thai Royal family), that should they "be removed", I can promise you, I will be opening the odd celebratory thread.

"Royalty is a show business term for preservation of privilege."

- who said that?

Robin Williams? :o

There is a TV member named Thomas

He liked to stir things up for fun

He will draw you into an argument, I promise

About any and everything under the sun

What his motivations are I can't explain

To think of this leads me to great pain

From wars to royal familes, its all fair game

Debating with him will drive one insane

Is it for purpose or kicks, one will never know

One thing for sure, he helps the forum grow

From drivel to meaning, he talks it all

Never being shy, he's sure to appall

Were he not here, the forum wouldnt be the same

Listen to him for sure, you might have something to gain

Thomas this is for you, you're one of a kind

You post so much, I might just go blind

No, Bambi, you were not the cause of the thread closing.

IMHO the person responsible was unable to demonstrate detachment and wisdom.

Do you know this story?:

Now two prostitutes came to the king and stood before him.  One of them said, "My lord, this woman and I live in the same house. I had a baby while she was there with me.  The third day after my child was born, this woman also had a baby. We were alone; there was no one in the house but the two of us.

"During the night this woman's son died because she lay on him.  So she got up in the middle of the night and took my son from my side while I your servant was asleep. She put him by her breast and put her dead son by my breast.  The next morning, I got up to nurse my son—and he was dead! But when I looked at him closely in the morning light, I saw that it wasn't the son I had borne."

The other woman said, "No! The living one is my son; the dead one is yours."

But the first one insisted, "No! The dead one is yours; the living one is mine." And so they argued before the king.

The king said, "This one says, 'My son is alive and your son is dead,' while that one says, 'No! Your son is dead and mine is alive.' "

Then the king said, "Bring me a sword." So they brought a sword for the king.  He then gave an order: "Cut the living child in two and give half to one and half to the other."

The woman whose son was alive was filled with compassion for her son and said to the king, "Please, my lord, give her the living baby! Don't kill him!"

But the other said, "Neither I nor you shall have him. Cut him in two!"

Then the king gave his ruling: "Give the living baby to the first woman. Do not kill him; she is his mother."

When all Israel heard the verdict the king had given, they held the king in awe, because they saw that he had wisdom from God to administer justice.

Good thought.

What was it now?

"I don't have it in me anymore. I can't even kill the bugs in my house."

--Mike Tyson

Don't you mean thought's on the distribution of monies and the preservation of world peace by our cousins from over the pond?

“Thought for the Day” had been running for quite some time on the Buddhist forum of Thaivisa, but has just been closed – apparently some of the thoughts were not sufficiently Buddhist enough (allowing interesting conclusions such as: lack of humour, Puritanism and censorship are not only found in certain interpretations of Christianity).

Good idea Thomas, the mods there could have moved it here rather than close it. Maybe start a Buddhist thought for the day. :o
