English man arrested after allegedly spraying Songkran revelers with harmful chemicals instead of water.

Unfortunately some individuals forget the real meaning of the Songkran Festival and simply go too far whewn it comes to participating in the event.

Tourist Police Officers were called to the front of Soi 5 on Pattaya Beach Road over the weekend by a Norwegian Man, Mr. Irwin Scruger aged 32 after he had been attacked by an English Man carrying a tube used to expel water. However, Mr. Scruger suggested that it was more than water in the tube and after sustaining burns to his face and neck, he feared that the man was expelling harmful chemicals instead.

The suspect was located and arrested in possession of the tube and its harmful contents. He was taken to Pattaya Police Station where he was identified as Mr. Nicholas Masters aged 41 from London and was known to be part of a small group who had made their way along the beach.

A young Thai boy known as Junior aged only 10 also reported minor burns to his skin thought to have come from the tube. Mr. Masters denied all allegations of actual bodily harm and the case is now under further investigation. The fate or Mr. Masters is unknown.

I just can't believe that someone would do this. A Tourist going to all the trouble of geting a battery, taking out the acid, filling up his gun with it and then spraying it at total strangers.

Just doesn't sound plausible.

Well he was english. I heard this was happening on Khao San Road as well, the culprits beings farangs. I very much doubt it's acid, probaley yah hom or curry powder mixed with water. Still a stupid and malicious thing to do.

I went to Bang Saen the other day to watch the Song Khran parade...really amazing...the town and Sukumvit were clogged with drenched revelers and the atmosphere was fantastic. Hardly a farang in sight.

Pattaya on the other hand!

They haven't even had the main event yet and the level of aggression and feeling of tension is almost palpable....the difference? Thais in general seem to see Song Khran as a water festival to celebrate the start of their New Year, whereas farangs seem to regard it as a public game of paint ball....

I saw 2 guys walking along 2nd road the other night with pump guns and the way they were swaggering along you'd think they were some military elite fighters out on patrol! The idea is not to hunt and maim....it's to have a good time....for everyone not just indulge in some psychopathic fantasy........

Probably the same dirty polluted <deleted> water the rest were using but 2 people had a reaction to it. If he was spraying it surely there would have been more than 2 cases.

Come on guy. When's the last time you felt a burning sensation from cold water?

"The suspect was located and arrested in possession of the tube and its harmful contents."

The reason there are only two, is that the sensation was mild.

That means maybe other people didn't feel it because they were already drenched and it ran off them.

This guy is a really sick puppy. And the frightening thing is, he'll probably be back on the street soon.

Something so purely senseless and sadistic like this probably means that he will escalate this behavior.

What a blight on the farang community of Pattaya. If guilty this <deleted>-wit is of the same sort of mentality as the ‘Football Hooligans’ that come out of the UK. And if convicted he should be deported and black listing --- after spending some private, quality time with those attacked and in particular the Thai families.

Watch out for the ‘hand wringers’ and ‘don’t hang em high’ brigade now!

I got shouted out of sight way back in this thread when I mentioned how good the fun was in Bang Saen. I've enjoyed several Songkrans there, and this year my gang from Sa Kaeo and my daughter and husband went there and had an incredible time. No swaggering drunken farangs, no malice, just good old fashioned fun. Even the cops join in and get soaked for their pains. (maybe this should be in the good news thread? :o )

Question: How come most Thais just laugh and have a good time when drunk, and most Brits become threatening and violent?

Where on earth did you get this information from ? :D

You have an overactive imagination which obviously takes over your reasoning. :o

Naka.

Mind you ... SONGKRAN SUCKS. Time to abandon this "National Embarrassment" ! :D:D:D

and must cost the economy a mint every year.

The farang community in Pattaya is a blight on Thailand.

This smacks of a somewhat ignorant and ill-informed generalization about those of us that choose to live in Pattaya!

Never been called a "blight" before, though.

Maybe a 'Blight' is someone from Blighty? :o

So that lets you out, Chuckd. (I can't believe anyone from Blighty would call himself Chuck! :D )

I am sorry but my "overactive imagination" is purely a result of watching Pattaya Mail TV reports, they reported that the substance used was battery acid.

Perhaps I should have explained better, but going back to my original statement, where the h@ll is a "tourist" going to pick up battery acid ?

:D:D

I have to disagree. For 5 days you have hordes of drunken sexually frustrated guys running around in packs, like sex starved dogs, trying to touch as many girls as they can. Bang Saen is an awful place to be for Songkran. The reason you see no farangs is because they all leave. Only idiots get involved in this pathetic waste of a natural resource. This activity has nothing to do with songkran.

here we go...we've heard all these moans and whines and complaints a thousand times. All from miserable farangs who begrudge the Thais their bit of fun. Sure some go over the top - but that will happen any time anywhere in the world where you have a big festival and booze flows.

Why don't you bugger off if you don't like it?

What a blight on the farang community of Pattaya.

Hmmm, having such a jaundiced view of Pattaya and the Pattaya farang community, one wonders why you poke your snout into the Pattaya Forum.

Voyeurism, envy, masturbatory material prospecting...? :o

I've never begrugged anyone from having fun. Although if a Farang put any kind of caustic chemical in a spray gun and sprayed people with it in my village, he better pray that a Thai Cop catches him first. I will personally escort any Farang out of our little village that does anything like that.

I don't think that that kind of behaviour should be condoned by anyone. We as Farang are guests in Thailand and we should conduct ourselves accordingly. Participating in the fun, antics and lifestyle is one thing, but to endanger others is not acceptable. My words aren't false bravado nor empty. When I lived in America, in Indiana, I personally removed a wife beater/molester from our neighborhood, I would happily do it again in Thailand.

I hope that none of us here could ever condone or stick up for someone that goes out to hurt innocent people.

Is that the same farang community that raises so much for local charities?

Is that the same farang community that spends a f%#$%#g fortune over here?

Is that the same farang community that gets totally ripped off by local corrupt scumbags?

Bring on the water, have a ball, and stop whining!

If the cop on the corner can take a soaking all day, I'm sure I can.

Hope you get soaked, and the inside of your car!

Waterworld for a few days.... Magic!

What a place. Mugged when you're drunk and ripped off when you're sober. The best thing about Pattaya is that it attracts all the criminals from other parts of Thailand thus leaving the rest of us free to enjoy life without too many worries.

Before Noel asks, I'm sticking my nose in here to see how the other half lives. :o

so because you dont like something you have to bugger off. How childish.

As many Thais will tell you the songkran festival has little to do with what actually takes place. It has become the norm to behave this way which you obviously like and says alot about your mentality, but just because it is like this doesnt actually mean it is the correct behaviour.

Those ignorant enough to think something shouldnt change because it has always been the way really dont know much about Thai culture but are always the first to jump on the lets not slag off the Thai culture bandwagon

Duh!, spare us the 'culture' lesson. No thai has ever said anything of the sort to me. They're too busy getting soaked and having a ball.

It's just whiney old farang-o-farts who resort to the 'thai culture history lesson' to justify another 'One Foot In The Grave' (maybe teutonic?) sermon.

Eh Victor?

Teeruk, pass me another Chang!!!!

Can't see a foreigner doing such a thing. I think a bad reaction to the water. Christ from the photos, barely see anything wrong with those whinging. We had a thread when someone actually tested the water and bloody hel_l it was full of contaminents straight from the spicket.

H2o ballistic forensics are on the case. There are just so many water pistols, canons and of course the different sources of contaminated water!

Very busy in forensics case load expanding every day!

Maybe you should speak to a better class of Thai who is not so ignorant. :o

As i said, songkran never used to be the way it is now. like so many festival throughout the world it has become a money making event. This year I believe it generated 25 billion baht.
