Jai Dee Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Royal Thai Police: narcotics are spreading violently The Royal Thai Police Deputy Commander, Pol. Lt. Gen. Wongkot Maneerin, has admitted that narcotics are still spreading to a large extent, especially in areas in Bangkok and its vicinities. Pol. Lt. Gen. Wongkot stated that from this year’s March 1st to August 12th, 596 drug dealers and addicts were arrested in Klong Toey community alone. Recently, 33 drug smugglers were arrested between August 13th and 14th, and police confiscated over 200,000 amphetamine pills, heroine, marihuana, ice drug, and other types of narcotics. The Deputy Commander has conceded that major drug dealers, both new and old, are still running this illegal operation continuously. He said the drug-infested areas in Thailand include Bangkok, Klong Toey District, Bung Kum, Sai Mai, Bupharam, Chomthong, five provinces around the capital, 28 northeastern provinces, and three southern border provinces. Many dealers usually sell amphetamine pills along with ice drug. However, the overall situation is getting more intense as more drug dealers are using guns to fight with the government officers. Therefore, the police officers have to coordinate with relevant local agencies in different regions, to monitor the situation and suppress narcotics. He said some police officers are also involved in this distribution, and if they get caught, they will be prosecuted and punished accordingly. ZZZ Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 I thought this problem was eradicated, didn’t someone say so not that long ago?
Crushdepth Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 3,000 lives later, nothing has changed. What a suprise.
britmaveric Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 3,000 lives later, nothing has changed. What a suprise. Time to duck/cover - another clean sweep operation will be coming soon.
Johpa Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 3,000 lives later, nothing has changed. What a suprise. But those who were killed were mainly just poor village kids who were at the bottom of the food chain, just one step up from a simple addict and easily replaced by those higher up who need not fear arrest nor assassination. Toxin, as well as the rest of the Bangkok elite, sees these rual people no differently than say....backpackers.
sriracha john Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 I'm a bit confused by this news article in the OP. Thailand has been drug-free for well over three years now. What on Earth happened??? Thaksin declares the country 'drug free area'Published on Apr 13, 2003 "The government is pleased to announce that the country is now a drug-free area and will proclaim victory in its war on drugs," said Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
Scott Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 It's the same almost everywhere. Drugs are virtually impossible to eradicate. They make people feel good and there's money to be made--very difficult problems to overcome for any gov't. Only the foolish would declare a success.

seri thai Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Who first said "don't believe everything you read in the papers? "My wife phoned me just before the show, and she said, "I've got water in the carburettor." I said, "where's the car?" she said, "in the river."
atlastaname Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 3,000 lives later, nothing has changed. What a suprise. And nothing ever will. Why can't people face the obvious, that there will always be an insatiable demand for drugs and there will always be people ready to supply . No matter what crackdowns etc they have all around the world, the drugs problem will never stop and it will never get better. It will always be as it is now . All the money being spent all around the world every year on fighting drugs could be better spent on other areas. Its just money wasted. Put a health warning on the packet and let people make their own choices , just like they do now and forever.

Legalisation or decriminalisation together with regulation of supply and appropriate health services could improve the lives of many and would prevent unnecessary drug-related deaths, overcrowded jails, and the huge profits and misery inflicted by organised crime through its control of drug distribution.

Not only is he into voodoo but he's also a time traveler. He came from the future (side effect=square head) in 2003 to make this announcement but forgot to mention which year it will happen. Of course, he did not mention TRT being dissolved, his multiple jail terms that followed, friends bringing him presents like soap on a rope in jail, seized assets, Pojaman fleeing to Burma with the new car on a full gas tank and a 500 baht note and some loose change left in the ashtray, the multiple colonoscopies his children will undergo when tax evasion inquiries get real serious. Sounds crazy? Read his public statements over the last 6 years...

sriracha john Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 the multiple colonoscopies his children will undergo when tax evasion inquiries get real serious. To assist readers in regards to understanding this statement, some basic mathematics will be utilized following this description: A colonoscopy is a procedure that enables your physician to examine the lining of the colon (large bowel) for abnormalities by inserting a flexible tube that is about the thickness of your finger into the anus and advancing it slowly into the rectum and colon. OR IN OTHER WORDS: This: Plus This: Equals This: ---------------------------------- Are there any "question marks" in people's minds still?

The sheer mindlessness of ridiculous public statements such as this by members of the government never cease to amaze me. Drug free area? He should have immediately been sent for drug testing himself. My other favourites are "It will be easy to solve the problems of the poor..." and "It will be easy to solve the traffic problem in Bangkok". It would be funny if it wasn't so ######ing sad.
Tony Clifton Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Indeed a total idiot who always excelled at one thing only, surrounding himself with somewhat smarter people. Suryia (Mr. CTX) still puzzles me though.

astral Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Royal Thai Police: narcotics are spreading violently What a strange headline. I would have thought drugs were passive little pills or vials of liquid........... They may be CAUSING violence, but that is a different matter.
