Thai Banks Withdraw from Laos, Citing Business Slump
saakura replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"The banks include Thai Military Bank, Bank of Ayudhya, CIMB Thai Bank, and Bangkok Bank." I thought that the Thai Military Bank changed to TMB over about 15 years ago and then merged with another bank many years ago to become TTB? -
I have recently helped a few foreigners in a similar situation (wanting the lowest cost funeral). Where the actual death happened at the hospital where the person was rushed to at the end stage, a death certificate was easily issued, and on the basis of this, a police clearance was issued. Where the foreigner had died at home, the police came for a routine enquiry and spoke to the neighbours and concluded that there were no suspicious circumtances and the autopsy was waived and police clearance issued. At the administrative office of local temple, we informed them of our requirement for low cost funeral and submitted the originals + copy of police clearance. For a sum of 11,000 Baht, a few monks chanted prayers for 10 minutes and the body was cremated thereafter. An official cremation certificate was issued. Next day we collected the ashes/bones in a ziplock bag and immersed it in the river. Last bit was going to the embassy with police clearance + cremation certificate to get the passport cancelled. Pension was automatically stopped on passport cancellation. This was at a temple somewhere in Onnut Road in Bangkok.

Story Of My Thai Citizenship Application

Thank you @Dr. Joy, this is really comforting! -
I took a walk on a few roads during the last 4 days (Thonglor, Ekamai, Onnut, around Phra Khanong). There were some groups on open pickup trucks and outside shophouses with water hoses and guns, but no one bothered me when they saw me dressed in smart casual clothes with leather shoes.

Story Of My Thai Citizenship Application

I assume that the 'Thai Nationality interview' you have referred to is the MOI big committee interview. Any idea when this batch would have completed the NIA interview and had their documents submitted by the SB to MOI? I had my NIA interview in September 2020 and got a confirmation from my SB case handler that all documents were sent to MOI in October 2020. I am still waiting for the MOI interview call. The SB case handler told me to expect it by end of 2023 or early 2024. Seems abnormally long to me. Although I am in a stable job with a PR and not in a hurry, getting worried in case the documents go missing somewhere. It will be too much of a pain to start all over again. -

If that is a measure of progess, I will wait for the day when Canada also progresses to a level allowing 45 days exempt to Thai (and other) nationals arriving by air or land border. -

Life without a credit card in Thailand
saakura replied to poppysdad's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Yesterday I went to buy a sanwich and coffee at a Starbucks outlet in Rama 4 road in Bangkok and tried to pay cash and was told that they only accept either a credit card or an online transfer using QR code. No cash accepted even for a 20 baht water bottle if you were to buy one. -

If your single day earning in Australia is sufficient to purchase the land and the house built on it, that would be the better thing to do rather than get into a lengthy litigation.
