TAT confident of 4 million Chinese arrivals by end of year
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I couldn't sleep lat night worrying whether there would be 3.99 million Chinese arrivals or over 4 million. Thank you from the heart of my bottom, TAT, for confirming in cast iron fashion that it will be over 4 million. -
Floods in Pattaya and north as more rain is forecast
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
They may as well throw the Weather service in the garbage as well.....a couple of weeks ago they were advising farmers not to plant second crops because a drought was coming. Worse than TAT ar=t forecasting. -
I had apparently misunderstood the law. I thought it was different than in other countries. This article (first sentence, bolded) implies that it is not defamation if the statements made are true. I understood that it didn't matter in Thailand whether the statements made were factually true or not, simply the act of saying or repeating them damaged the reputation of the important person and so it was illegal i.e. it was the intended damage to the reputation rather than the truth of the accusation that was criminal. Can someone clear up my befuddled brain.

Thailand, Brunei Set to Expand Comprehensive Cooperation
retarius replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Isn't Brunei drowning in oil? Maybe a good deal can be had whereby Brunei gives Thailand oil, and Thailand gives Brunei somtam? No need to use the dollar or the yuan, just trade directly, one somtam for one barrel of oil. -
Chinese Tourist Arrivals Plunged Nearly 30% Week Over Week
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The news from TAT is always so lame. It must be the least effective organisation in the whole of Thailand. Is there any support for a blackout on TAT news, so we don't have to read this tripe? Perhaps the moderators could re-evaluate the usefulness of TAT news to its readers? -
Government and BOI to Discuss Support for Combustion Car Manufacturing
retarius replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Good move.....when everybody starts falling for the EV con job, perhaps it's a good idea to keep a finger in the ICE pie. -
I always drive at or below the speed limit now. When the cameras came in I had loads of tickets. Now I don't get any. I should say that other drivers have huge problems with me driving at the speed limit and that road rage is a constant possibility. But c'est la vie.

Thailand Postpones Regional Summit to Which Myanmar Junta Boss Invited
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I would let the Burmese sort it out, and keep out of it. What do they need to be invited to this summit for? Sadly in a civil war there has to be a clear winner and clear loser if there is to be any peace in the future. If there is no clear winner the conflict goes on and on and on and on. Look at Palestine, look at border disputes around the globe.....do you really think if Russia and Ukraine agree a peace deal that it will hold? Certain parties around the world foment war as an aid to their business. It is lamentable and immoral but true, and we live in a world filled with propaganda to disguise the warlike intent of this rogue nation. -
Pattaya’s watery woes: Torrential rains wreak flooding havoc
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
God what a horrible hole Pattaya is. I remember my first time there around this time of year 20 or so years ago. Poop oozing out of the sewer along with the rats on Soi Buakaew.....revolting. It still does it now, despite all the supposed attempts to stop it (at vast expense). What happens to all the money allocated to the flood preventions schemes? The money seems to be ineffective in getting any sort of result. I'll wait until the dry season before I go back. -
Why not ship them to the US? The US has to stick its awe into everything in the world and the arms that Hamas are using come from the USA, so why not return the favour and send the Israelis to the US where I'm sure, they will receive a very warm welcome.

Sometimes I cannot speak without a mouthful of filthy words spewing out of me. This is one of those times, but I will take care not to let my anger make the moderators angry. Here we have a trafficker being protected by appointed senators. IT IS SCANDALOUS. IT is even worse that it is LEGAL. It is OBSCENE. It is a Medieval Constitution that needs ripping ups and burning, imho, it is not fit to wipe ones arse on.

Certificate of Residence Documents
retarius replied to skorts's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I had to have every page of my passport even the blank ones photocopied twice. Plus every other document photocopied twice ie 3 copies of each. .It took 5 days with the weekend in between.......top class customer service. Before the new efficient service you could wander up some stairs at the back of the building and walk out with Certificate in hand in 15 minutes. The country is going to the dogs......the sci dogs not the pedigrees, although I imagine the elite think they are pedigrees. -
The world is burning down... So what are you up to?
retarius replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Like everyone under the sun, I am slowly but surely dying. And every day I get a bit closer to my goal. I want a nice quiet death. Preferably with a few barbs and a few cans of Sapporo black start beer. -

180 day rule and filing TAXES
retarius replied to Marky Mark Mark's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Not time to worry. I plan to be non tax resident here. Fortunately I have other nice places to live and can, and will spend time there. My situation is simpler perhaps, insofar as I don't work at all and earn no income. My income is all from pensions and from investments, all in the US, and taxed there. But until the situation clarifies and the rules and processes are fully known I'm not risking bringing money into Thailand. I have enough here to last me until I die anyway. The only money I have paid directly is US SS because if I ever need to this covers the income method rule for my visa. -
Leaving to go to Thailand too young
retarius replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
No not on any disability....I finished college at 24 and worked until I was 54 as a corporate VP in a top US company. By then I had enough money and didn't need any more. Don't get me wrong I don't drive speedboats or anything, or drive Bentleys, but I had plenty for my kids to get a decent inheritance, for my ex-wife to be taken care of and for my Thai partner to be well off for the rest of her life (if she doesn't give it all to the family, of course). I don't need much materially, I lived in the US for 20 years and found that materialism is a totally empty philosophy, people are much happier when they have no financial worries and less happy when they have too much money. -
Patong tuk-tuk drivers charged after assault on tourist
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
I went to Phuket once.....I said Phuk-et I'm never coming here again. -
At 71, I probably have less than 10 years. It doesn't worry me one bit. I'm happy as a pig swimming in swill. If it's 5 so be it, or 2 so be it? I made a living will not to be resuscitated or operated on. To have a good life, it doesn't need to go on and on. The thought of living to more than 80 fills me with horror.

Is It Better to be 17 or 70....in 2023?
retarius replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I have no idea what it is like to be 17 in 2023. I am 71 and happy being that age, but then again I am in good shape and have a wonderful lady partner and enough money to enjoy life. I don't need anything else. -
New TM30 Registration Web Site
retarius replied to BKK57's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Rather than spend hours trying to get these useless government websites to work, I drive to the IO, give them the form, and leave and go shopping in the big town. Saves tons of time. -
Well to inheritance taxes, yes. Apparently after your death, the HMRC can go back and take 40% of everything you have every given to your partner or spouse. If you change your domicile to a more tax friendly jurisdiction they cannot do this.

I left the UK in 1985 and have never lived there since. I would like to change my domicile to Thailand where I have been living since 2009 and where I intend to live until I die. Can you tell me the procedures/forms/information necessary to implement this change. Thank you.
