‘No turning back’: how the Ukraine war has profoundly changed the EU
retarius replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Grow up man. Putin isn't going to be crushed. The Ukrainians are going to be crushed. Yesterday. 17 Ukrainians soldiers called the Russian hotline to surrender. Reason: their commanders had ordered them to hold a position, but they had no ammo, zero bullets, no grenades etc etc and no artillery cover. Ukraine has serious issues at the strategic management level of the conflict and are running out of everything: men, ammo and morale. You think 31 stripped down US tanks will turn the tide? They'll be burnt with all in them by the Russians who are simply superior people. -
Excise Dept Asked to Extend Electric Car Incentives
retarius replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
EVs are the best thing since sliced bread but no one will buy one without a discount. Tesla cut its prices yesterday for the hundredth or so time. They might soon be worth buying. My rule of life: never be an early adopter, you pay more and get a half finished product. -
To be honest I am going to 'apply' for non-domicile. I left the UK 40 years ago and have no ties there. No close relatives since my mother died. Very few assets there I have a strong case. My other alternative has not been viable until the recent change in taxation law. My Non O visa is in my UK passport. I have not wanted to go through the hassle of changing it to either my US or Irish passport. but given the taxation situation here, if I have to pay ANY taxes at all to the Thai government I can drop the Non O visa and come in on 90 tourist visas or visa exempt making sure I am in Thailand for less than 180 days. I have another home in Asia where I usually spend 3 months anyway, so to another 3 months visiting family in the US or Europe is no big deal.

Video Shows Biden Saying, 'She Was 12, I was 30'?
retarius replied to Social Media's topic in World News
He says in in a lewd sort of way. But this is the guy that showered with his daughter when she was 14. She recorded in her diary that she felt 'very uncomfortable'. For me he's a pervert. -
Three Held For Selling Pistol To Teen Suspect In Mall Shooting
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It is my understanding that selling a blank pistol is legal. It is confirmed that the 3 had modified it before selling it as an active weapon. -

Bloody pervert, should be in jail. -
Like. u ch in Thailand, I think it depends on where you live. We have had several automatic 'tickets' and not paid them. We were told that when you renewed your registration you would have to pay them, we've renewed more than once and never been asked to pay. So they sit there. I can't say I have lost any sleep over it. As for the demerit system, good luck with that.....anything that involves computers and programs is totally beyond any system that Thais can implement. I must have some demerits, but I'm seriously doubting whether even having a driver's license is worth the effort. I doubt that when mine comes due in 4 years time, I'll renew it.

The answer is yes, there is a code in your passbook. I haver never had any receipt like Khun LA shows and I have been receiving SS for 10years. Bangkok Bank appears to be the only bank that the Philippines will accept to pay into, presumably because they are the only bank that US authorities trust to comply with FACTA. I have to go through the tricky situation of moving the payments out of BB and move them some where else to avoid the new taxes that Thailand wish to impose.

Good god......you just smashed my plans to smithereens. I left the UK 40 odd years ago and assumed that owning no assets there, my mrs would pay no taxes. Thanks anyway, I'll hire a tax accountant in Bangkok to look into my total taxation picture. It is complicated because it involves assets in several countries (taxes paid on all of them, I might add). But I'm funcked if I'm giving the UK anything when I die if I can possibly avoid it.

I just get in more fights.

Thailand’s crackdown on blank guns following Siam Paragon shooting
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The use of “blank guns” in crimes across Thailand has been on a steady rise, with over 1,000 cases recorded last year. The surge was triggered by a shocking incident involving a 14 year old boy who opened fire in Siam Paragon..... This reads (to me at least) as though the shooting in Siam Paragon has caused a surge of shootings....but it was the possibly other way around ie the surge in shootings with 'blank guns' made them more readily available and led to the 'shocking incident'. -

Didn't Prayut promise enhance security after the Terminal 21 disaster a few years ago? I guess it got forgotten about when the news cycle passed. -

Open Sesame! Thai government to review operating hours
retarius replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I was hoping that this referred to the idiotic practice of closing down government offices like immigration between 12 and 1 so all the I/Os can go to lunch together. But sadly it's a about bars and clubs, and I couldn't give a toss about when they open and close, I'm always in bed by 8pm. -

retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Srettha absolutely brilliant man, they should make him PM forever (or as long has he keeps making my electric bill smaller). Does anyone know of the tariff for 3 phase electric is higher than the normal tariff?
