  1. Are you so dense that you cannot recognise irony? I'll put you on ignore.
  2. Sharp; they are ahead of the game, presumably because they are the only bank entitled to handle SS payments....(that's Social Security, not the other German lot.) I'm going to change my tax residency next year to somewhere other than Thailand. I have homes elsewhere and will use one of those countries.
  3. In my opinion we should not worry about suicides. These people are going to die one day after all. What difference does it make off they die a few days, weeks, months or years early? I don't see what all the fuss is about. It's not exactly that humans are in short supply. There's too many of them anyway, and they are crowing millions of other species off the earth. So, from my perspective it's nice that some people leave the party a bit earlier than planned. I say good luck to them and RIP.
  4. Russell Brand and I'd shag myself daft.
  5. I looked up tourism numbers worldwide recently, I can't remember the details but France and Spain were (no surprise the top two) and Czechia was number 3 with something like 37 million visitors. (Most don't fly in but come by road from other European counties.)
  6. You could not be more wrong: Thailand is the IT hub of ASEAN do you not remember Thailand 4.0 by Mr Prayut? It made Thailand Thailand hub of IT. Now look up the meaning of hub and see what I mean. ????
  7. I agree, but with the proviso that trusting any politician own any of his/her promises has a low probability of success. Gaetz will fight for no funds to Ukraine,. but he doesn't even have the support of his own party, much less support from the Dems. The Dems are supposed to be leftish-wing and should be against war, but their actions belie their words.
  8. Lies. The issue is what the money is spent on, not trying to govern. Whether to spend the money on Americans, securing the Southern border and on poorer Americans which is what Gaetz wants it spent on; or spending it on more money to be send to Ukraine to prolong the unwindable war. I'm with Gaetz 100%. And by the way, you lost, McCarthy is out already.
  9. This has made my day. McCarthy, the swamp dwelling, promise breaker, was ousted yesterday by Matt Gaetz motion. Great news. Now maybe we can have a Congress that focusses on spending money on sealing the borders, on helping poor Americans and using the money that Biden send to Ukraine to be stolen to do the tasks that needs doing at home. Yippee, yippee.
  10. Now how can anyone 'vow' to outsmart nature? The berk. I seriously despise people who promise to do things that cannot possibly be done. I do know what he will do, he will form a committee, with some sub-committees to report on the problem but offer no solutions to Mother Nature's bounty. I am afraid the Thais have picked a halfwit for PM.
  11. If there are two dead and one more fatality, doesn't that mean that there are 3 dead? Why doesn't the police chief and the headline say "Police chief says 3 dead....". Not only would this be less words, but would be a snappier headline. A friend pointed this out to me.
  12. You my IQ was 250 before I came to Thailand and I wan't really trying, I was hoping to fail the test really so I wouldn't get the 10 million a year job that was on offer.
  13. Really Thailand never had any strategy for tourism. Thaksin tried with his wealthy tourist gambit, but it was extremely poor value for a visa that could be withdrawn at any time. The only strategy Thai have is numbers....let's get 20 million or 30 million....no matter where from. If I were czar of all czars of Thai tourism, I would be researching how to upgrade the length of European or US visitors' stay; researching the impact of upgrading the tourists' experience by say getting rid of the filth, sewerage etc that plagues the place; deporting drunks and lowlives; eliminating scams or a combination of these. The issue is a strategy has to be built from knowledge that comes from researching attitudes and opinions, not just some numbers dreamed up by TAT. TAT gives us wishful thinking and as the old saying goes: hope is not a strategy.
  14. I am thinking seriously about moving away from Thailand. We have a home elsewhere where I can spend 90 days at a time, and will spend more time there, next year. I'm also considering buying somewhere in Europe, Portugal probably. My aims to spend more than 180 days out of Thailand to avoid ruinous taxes on my savings and income. I have a US passport, but frankly the state of the place and the people leave me cold, so it is not somewhere I would consider until it changes track.
  15. Proof that glue-sniffing strengthens your bones. It's all those horse bones in the glue, works wonders.
  16. NO NO NO NO NO. Horrid smelly dangerous uncomfortable things, then you get ripped off by the =driver.
  17. Another giant waste of time and effort, not like they will be working very hard.
  18. Decent women tend not to like pricks., I didn't mention it in case it demoralised him but Japanese women are very particular in this regard.
  19. We've not had an underwear thief for a while, so this is good news that another perv has been taken out of the laundry as it were. What I don't understand is why a perv would steal clean underwear? If you want clean stuff go to a lingerie store and buy it new.
  20. Was the Smart BMW involved in the capture of these desperate people?
  21. He's lucky he's in Thailand, he can do absolutely nothing like Prayut did for 8 years while he was "returning happiness to the people". I suspect Mr Income Soaring Srettha is referring to his own income, not the income of workers.
  22. Unless you know the context and reality of the story, it makes little sense. There is however a lot of racism around the globe, even in sacred Britain where Steven Lawrence was beaten to death by white thugs and the police did nothing for years until public pressure was brought to bear.
  23. I've lived in Japan for several years although in Tokyo mainly, not in the countryside. From what little I have seen of the countryside I feel that an intelligent person there will be bored out of their head. It is also not a good place to meet women if that is your objective. Japanese are extremely racist and think white people smell unpleasantly of old milk and cheese....it is not unusual on a crowded train in Tokyo to be sat down with an empty seat on either side of you. Having said that younger people are much less racist in those ways, but the countryside is filled with old racist people. who think that Japanese are the uber race. The other thing to consider is that intelligent young people from the countryside are leaving leave their homes in floods and go to live in Tokyo, Osaka or Nagoya where the work is. If you are not aware of this then maybe you are not as smart as you think yourself. But the small towns and villages in the countryside do have attractive offers of stuff like cheap housing and free childcare to attract younger people into their communities so the communities don't just die.
  24. Certainly thought provoking. But Jordan Peterson always is, which is why he is contraversial. The main point that got me was the no jobs for people with IQs under 83. I must confess I had never thought of this as a reason for the existence in every society of the underclass....unemployable people. I think that there is a deal of truth in this, but how to solve it? Peterson is right in that neither left not right are even examining the problem, for the reason he outlines. The first tape was not as clear in its message however studying vague things like intelligence is a lost cause unless the concept of 'intelligence' can be explicitly articulated. If not you tend to end up with a pig's breakfast of semantics. However I have read that IQ correlates very closely with success at work and salaries earned. Much of the work on IQ was criticised by the negative reaction to the finding that blacks have lower IQs than whites, which was claimed to be racist. The finding that Asians had higher IQs that whites seems to have been forgotten about. The black vs white claim was made and used to explain that poorer performance by blacks at work, was not caused by racism but by the fact that the IQ test were based in favour of whites, because they were designed by whites. I obviously don't know whether this claim is true or not This wouldn't be surprising as whites invented the tests. This latter argument is akin to the recent claim that photography is racist because the films used portray white skin tones better than black ones....but then again whites invented photography and the films and papers that make it possible so maybe they optimised the papers for white skin tones. Overall I find Jordan Peterson a thought provoking man. And a man unafraid to talk sense while ignoring the driving fashions of the day like racism and LBGTI+ woke stuff, that are trying to cancel him.
  25. I find diabetes care and measurement is markedly different in different places I have lived. My physician uses both FBS and HbA1C. FBS he does in office with a stick, and HbA!C is done quarterly. As you point out the measure different things. To be honest if your HbA1C is ok then a random FBS measurement is meaningless. I test my FBS first thing each morning and it seem to vary quite dramatically for no apparent reason. I show the FBS results to my physician each month. Diabetes is not a static disease though and progress as you age. Also other parameters of health change along with blood sugar parameters. For example my high cholesterol has vanished as has my high blood sugar although I still take Triplix for triglycerides and 25 or 12.5 mg atenolol for blood pressure (my BP is actually a bit low now, but atenolol is cardioprotective).
