Thailand’s soft power strategy eyes tech and regulatory overhaul
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Funny, I don't really see Thailand as full of creative people. Maybe I don't notice the creativity. But in my life experience I have noticed that the further the world is away from the first world, the more complex and arbitrary its bureaucracy is. One only needs to look at the immigration laws and vis issuance to see the stupidity there, compared to second or first world countries. Whilst I applaud the initiative to get rid of red tape, my experience tells me that little or nothing will come of this effort. When I can walk into different IOs and get asked for the same paperwork and the same rules apply, then I will change my tune and laud Thailand to the world. -
Not everything in life is about price. Then old saying about the fool who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. And I'm not saying that this is the case here, supplements are a rip-off and all, or almost all, are bad value for money. Ask yourself why in the US or UK or EU you can buy supplements at 1/4 of the cost than in Thailand.

Senator Porntip asked to leave restaurant in Iceland
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
She never claimed to be a democrat did she? No, she was appointed like the rest of the Senate under an undemocratic constitution (like the UKs). Look, your team lost, grow top and get over it. She is as entitled to her opinion as you are to your. -
When I lived in other countries, I was a pretty prolific investor (mixed results, to be sure). With the extreme level of corruption in Thai society, I have to assume that the stock market is stacked against retail investors here; and that company managers and executives are stealing from their companies. I remember Thai Airlines going bust with all the abuses of executives flying round the globe first class with 40 odd pieces of luggage on shopping trips with the wives or girlfriends. SET, no thanks.

Pattaya Police Conduct Late-Night Surveillance to Deter Street Racing

Plus you are not allowed to take guns in. What is the point of a racetrack if you can't carry a gun? -
Pattaya Police Conduct Late-Night Surveillance to Deter Street Racing

RTP, well done. Good move. It is so rare to see a cop after nightfall where I live, one is more likely to see a hen with 32 teeth. -
I'm fat, not obese but fat. My sympathies are with the driver and his shock absorbers which are costly to replace (unless you steal them, but that would be illegal). Fat people should be called out and shamed for their fatness. People with phone cameras should take photos and put them on social media every time they see a fat person eating something. Just a personal opinion, nothing insulting intended.

Yes tourism is indeed a low margin business. You cannot build a successful economy on tourism.....it's an add-on at best. What is it 10%-15% of the economy? It employs a lot of people at very low wages, and that's about it, apart from the hotel owners. The Thailand was humming with high growth, it was manufacturing that was the engine of growth, not tourism. Only when China becomes an export market for Thai manufactured good will we have a strong economy and currency. I am a beneficiary of the current weakness in the Baht and my income (which is all in dollars) is rising almost as rapidly as inflation. But as someone who lives here, and cares about other poorer people (not selfishly, just myself), I'd far rather see Thailand with a much stronger economy. with less tourism and less agriculture (bigger more efficient farms) and more people employed in factories churning out real stuff that other countries want to buy.

‘No turning back’: how the Ukraine war has profoundly changed the EU
retarius replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I was very pleased to see the results of the Slovakian election where the people voted to reject funding for Ukraine and put in some sensible leaders who promise don't to send more money to corrupt nazis. The other piece of good news of course was that some of the GOP in Congress finally had enough and said no aid for Ukraine in the funding package. The NO AID FOR UKRAINe movement is growing, and with it hopefully an end to the war and the threat of a nuclear catastrophe. Shame on the US for engineering this conflict, and shame in the Ukrainians for being so stupid as to fight to the last Ukrainian. -
Thailand’s finance ministry drops plan for financial transaction tax
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Understandable. It would force the hi-sos to pay a bit of tax, very nasty idea. -
Thai and Hong Kong police unite to dismantle human trafficking
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Good luck with that. I applaud the effort but not the results. Like prostitution people trafficking has been going on since the birth of humankind. -

I don't know what to think. She's entitled to her political views as much as her opponents are......BUT.....isn't it nice to see one of the untouchables humbled in public. -
Sweden gangs: PM summons army chief after surge in killings
retarius replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I spent 3 months at the University of Lund in Sweden over the summer of 1975 doing some post grad research work. It was an absolutely idyllic little town with lots of very pretty stunning Swedish girls. When I hear about Sweden these days women are afraid to go out by themselves, and never at night, because of rapes by immigrants. What has happened to Sweden? Poor choices by inane politicians have wrecked a fine country with "progressive policies". My two penn'orth. Allow no single muslim men into your country. Refugees should be women and small children not men of fighting age. -

Trump co-defendant pleads guilty in Georgia election case

Bad news for Trump. The plea deal especially, an open invitation to perjure oneself on the witness stand. -
