  1. Is it yet known what proof of tax paying in the US or other DTA country is acceptable. If it is an IRS filing or similar, what is the timing. For the past 15 years I have filed in October of the following year ie I will file 2024 taxes in the US on October 15th 2025. (6 month extension of the annual ex-pat date of June15th). So I will not have proof of my taxes paid until way after the Thai taxes are due. Not being resident is looking more and more attractive.
  2. This is scary. I have been told, by several sources including Asean Now, that the US DTA states specifically that SS can only be taxed by the US government. Obviously I don't know what the Thai translation say, in but my experience with contracts that are translated is that there is often a 'language' that will the governing language and used to guide decisions. I have never seen a US agreement with a company of a foreign country in which the governing language was not English. Mike Lister do you have anything to add here???? I still have just enough time to avoid being a resident in 2024.
  3. Not me, I hate the Azov Battalion and all nazis in Ukraine. It's looking up for Ukraine though, what with signing up convicts for military service. I can't see me ever going to the place on vacation to what is left of Ukraine, the centre of world corruption, I've seen enough death and destruction in my life. So no vacations there, not unless the Zelensky and his merry band of nazis recapture Crimea. I rather do fancy a trip to Crimea if it is still in Russian hands when the fighting dies down. I see recently 7 Ukrainian trainees in Germany got thrown out for wearing nazi insignia on their uniforms. Tut tut wait until you get back home before sewing on the nazi patches. By the way did anyone see the photos of Blinken having dinner in a Nazi pizzeria with Kuleba....before this pesky Ruskies blew it up.
  4. Mr Putin would be doing the world a service if he carries on with this depopulation 'plan' of his.
  5. Wars can be won and lost in a heart beat by some chance happening, so while everything looks great for Russia (and I certainly hope they win), some chance happening like Putin getting assassinated, or removed from office by all those anxious Russians who hate him (but incomprehensibly keep voting for him), or more likely, by some sort of weather-related incident that floods Russia and causes it to sink. Just remember in the war between Syracuse (the one in Sicily, not in upstate NY) and Athens....the Athenians were on the brink of defeat when at the last gasp, they managed to bribe a Syracusean porter to open the back gate to the castle, thereby letting the Athenians rush in and win.
  6. Ahhhh only because Biden has nothing to hide but has such a strong love on the Constitution. Biden reminds me of the only other man on the planet who did no wrong....yes, it was Jesus wasn't it? But they nailed him to a cross.
  7. I think it is because all male TV actors wear lipstick. You might say "Ahhh lipstick never did a boy any harm".....but it might be the thin edge of the wedge for some impressionable boys. Start with lipstick and end up as a lady boy. You cannot be too careful. And don't get me started but look at all the 'boy bands'....not a toxic male anywhere to be seen, handbag wearing, made up tarts.
  8. Well given he's an asylum seeker in Britain, then undoubtedly he will be invited in with open arms, given a house, a car, free money, free telephone with free international calling plan and asked to open a business ferrying his mates over the Channel.
  9. I use the word rarely used by today's parents.....I say No.
  10. The noise in Thailand used to drive me around the bend. I don't know what has changed, maybe the noise has gotten less, or maybe I have subconsciously learned to screen it out better. What I did do was to buy one of those cooler things for about 5000 baht and which don't really do much cooling but the put out a lot of white noise. I put it on at night and can't hear the barking dogs, idiots on big bikes, idiots on small bikes with modified exhausts, music from parties or bars in the village.....it works a treat.
  11. Yes I do. It is very easy to open a joint account if you both have single accounts. Just ask at the bank. Kari is very accommodating. Note you can only use 50% of the funds in a joint account for your annual retirement extension.
  12. I hope she gets fried. A perjurer has no place in the justice system.
  13. I think what he means is there is good care like Mr Thaksin received while not spending a night in jail, and then there is good care that Netiporn received that is only slightly less good that Thaksin received and the message is that if Thaisin hadn't received such excellent care, he might have ended up like Netiporn.
  14. I must confess to being shocked at this. Why wouldn't the west....indeed why wouldn't anyone at all.... wish to know who is sponsoring the information that foreign agents are putting out? One of the first things I do when I see some group like "The Atlantic Council", or "The Anus Think Tank" is to check out who is funding them to see if they are likely to be just another propaganda group (which they always are) or whether they might be an independent group with someone valid to say (almost never, as the groups that get their crap in the press are well funded and have plenty of media contacts). The only answer I can come up with is that the West are funding these subversive groups that have wrecked the peace of the world with their colour revolutions and the like.
  15. Personally I wouldn't bet against Toyota. A very smart company. I drove Mercedes for much of my working life but moved to work in Japan. I was given a company car....a Toyota Crown Royal Saloon (they didn't have Lexus in Japan in this days). This car was an eyeopener, made the Benz looks like a cart and horse. So remember before you part with any money, that in the 70s and early 80s when Japanese cars were rubbished as rust buckets and their motorcycles were called 'rice burners' by the shortsighted western car and bike manufacturers. Were it not for some serious protectionism by the US Toyota would have wiped out their car industry like they did their motor bike industry. PHEVs are still growing in the EU in Q1 whereas EVs (despite huge government subsidies) were stumbling at the first hurdle.....and they will fall at the second hurdle unless someone sorts out a good network of fast chargers and the news from the US looks very poor on this item. The western press have had photos recently of vast parking lots filled with unsold Tesla's in the US, and unsold Chinese EV's in Brussels.
  16. I tend to agree with the OP. I try to get away for the summer (March and April) and for the September-end October period, the rainy season. I went down to Krabi one August....it pretty much rained non stop and was miserable. I'd rather be home in Isaan if it is raining.
  17. I did it last year. Pretty straight forward in all respects. They made a big fuss about one thing, and that was that my host sent the invitation on email....they said email wasn't allowed and the invitation had to be a handwritten letter. Because we were then short of time, we got stung for DHL fees both ways.
  18. Yes I seem to get scabies a lot here....not only in my hair, but in my armpits, in my groins, and in my buttcrack. Very difficult to get rid of. I looked inside a motorcycle taxi helmet on time and vomited into it is was crawling with lice and other living things. What I would do mate is to shower and wash/rinse your hair with cool/cold water. It will make an instant difference, and stop your hair loss if that is an issue. I'd ditch the H&S too, and use an un-perfumed baby shampoo.
  19. We get quite a lot of snakes and rats when the fields at the back are ploughed up. We have dogs, 6 of various sizes. All seem to hate rats and snakes. They tear the rats and snakes apart. We used to leave the dogs' bowls out inside the house, but the rats came in to steal the food if the dogs were alert enough. Obviously we don't do this any more.
  20. In the video it looks really dangerous.
  21. High sugar (in everything), high fat (yuck), lots of veggies....not to my taste.
  22. They sound like bad seeds. Life in prison, was it all worth it?
  23. I simply cannot imagine how long this will take....but when I lived in the US, we had overhead cables for the first few years with all sorts of blackouts as squirrels fried themselves in our pot. They one year they put all the cables underground and never had a blackout again. So it might be painful to put them underground, but based on my experience there certainly was a benefit, not least to the squirrels.
  24. Well nice to know it was over a serious issue.
  25. I am aware of the 7 day rule.....but asking at my immigration office they tell me it has to be the same day. I always do it the same day.
