Poll/Survey: Expat Tax Residency Status
retarius replied to Skeptic7's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I'm out of the country for a spell....90 days to be specific. When I go back to Thailand I'll still have time to make the decision on whether to stay and do nothing or argue it out with the tax people. The money I brought over for this year was about 3.5 million baht, all from savings. I don't plan to bring any more over this year, or next year if this issue isn't cleared by then. I'd rather not get asked for documentation I don't have or is difficult to obtain beyond 12/31 statements from bank accounts. If I do get a Thai bill, I plan to try to deduct the sum paid from US taxes for 2024 as the tax payment would be in 2024. -
Apology from Pattaya Pub Guards after Assault on Tourists
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
But they've apologised, wai'd and done everything possible to avoid being charged. Makes me think of this like Israel and Palestinians in miniature....the IDF, a high tech tuned up vicious mob with latest weapons vs poor unarmed folk who get killed in 'tragic mistakes' in designated safe areas. -
Senate Votes to Proceed Amid Election District Drama
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Idiocy. Why such a complicated 6-round voting process? It will be a disaster with a million challenges to the legitimacy of the senators. Why not just scrap the senate. They do nothing but frustrate democracy, they will not be missed. -
I watched the YouTube version. The foreign guys were dicks for refusing to pay and then squaring up to the guards, who are paid to sort this type of trouble out. The head kick looked bad but I don't think the guards were wearing boots or heavy shoes, although the guy in white did look hurt, so that was excessive as the guy was one the floor anyway and no threat. As far as I can see the guards were just doing their jobs, which is to give a good hammering to people who refuse to pay. But the odds were ok and better than the usual 10 onto 1 we see on videos. Seems like the usual high quality pissed up Brits Thailand sees to attract, or their equivalent from somewhere else, where they want to play the big hard guy, but actually can't handle it.

Thailand Faces Economic Question: China and EV Cars
retarius replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thailand desperately needs a strategy. They need to analyse the data, forecast global demand in. various categories over the next few years and build a strategy and competences to take advantage of large and growing markets. Thailand cannot keep going on Mr Thaksin's successful growth strategies of old which are now 20 years out of date. -

If I were czars of all czars, my first action would be to outlaw these vile ugly things. -
Panel to auction 15,000 tonnes of rice from Yingluck era

I won't be bidding for 10 year old rice. Human edible rice is cheap enough already. -
ICQ messenger service to shut down after 28 years

I never heard of it either. -
From my perspective the UK is pushing escalation of a European war, and has posed relentlessly for it. If I had a child of military age I'd send him to the US or Canada for his tertiary education and early work experience. Having said that there don't seem to be many prospects for kids in the UK, maybe I'd send the kids anyway.

Why you shouldnt carry cash in Thailand
retarius replied to CharlieH's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
You must be a simpleton. A non cash world is around the corner. The benefit is that it makes corruption more difficult that with cash. Sweden practically eliminated cash transactions and for unknown (to me) reasons they have back tracked slightly. But even your 10 baht transaction at the paper store came to be a wave of the card in Sweden and I see in Starbucks here, the vast majority of customers seem to order and pay for their wares with cards. -
Why you shouldnt carry cash in Thailand
retarius replied to CharlieH's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
More propaganda to do away with cash. I use cash for any face to face transaction. Cash obviously doesn't work on the internet but it still works for everything else. I don't want o be forced into using any particular way of paying by greedy credit card companies that charge enormous fees. I have an AMEX which I don't use in Thailand, but for travel. And I have a local bank credit card that I use on the internet, at hotels etc. -

It's simpler all round to use a local card age Kasikorn Visa. -
The ICJ Ordered Israel to Halt its Rafah Military Offensive
retarius replied to Social Media's topic in The War in Israel
Great decision miluds. The US, UK (and Israel)routinely ignore any decisions of the ICJ or ICC they disagree with, for example the Diego Garcia rulings where they gave 2 fingers to the court just so the US could keep its last but 800 overseas base. Hypocrites. So we are two courts for 2 eh? ICC and ICJ. Note most people don't know the difference between the two but the ICJ is the top UN court for disputes between nations. -

I was quoted 100k to remove a hemorrhoid. Outrageous.
retarius replied to advancebooking's topic in Health and Medicine
Last year when I was at Bumrungrad for other reasons I noticed a "package" they were flogging for hemorrhoids they were flogging. It was $160,000 including a night in the hospital, local anaesthetic and surgeon and hospital fees. I can't quite see them doing it for 3-4K somehow. -
Thai Post wrong delivery - they don't cooperate to find my parcel
retarius replied to teriyaki's topic in General Topics
Yes, I had a package that didn't arrive recently from the US. The carrier said it was in our local post office....no said the post office, maybe it hasn't arrived yet. Totally unhelpful. It happened last year and half the stuff I send to my granddaughter in EU simply goes missing. Having said how useless the post office is, they don't deliver bills either. -
I only buy groceries and healthcare and it has been very high indeed if you add in shrinkflation, crapflation and regular old inflation. I buy a lot of foreign foods and the inflation on these has been scandalous. Funny thing is wages haven't gone up and many inputs eg milk in milk, yogurt, cheese, butter (which now comes in 200gram packs, reduced from 250g, and the prices have still gone up) etc haven't increased in price so why have the derived dairy foods gone up so much......especially those made in Thailand.

IF you use the dollar, you are always at risk of having your dollar assets frozen by the west. These is no debate about it, no evidence presented, no international body pontificating on the issue.....the US wills it for good or evil and the west do it. So using the dollar you sacrifice your sovereignty to the US.

Thailand will wish protect the wealth of the mega-rich and take whatever course of action protects them. Screw the poor and disenfranchised.
