I have visited Koh Chang many times driving my own car and taking it across on the ferry. I have driven the car to all parts of the island both on the tourist side and the non tourist side where there are no beaches. I have never been asked to pay a National Park entry fee unless I choose to enter one of the waterfall areas where there are payment booths. What about all the foreigners that live on Koh Chang. Do they pay an entrance fee each time they return to the island?

Unless the Cruise ship visitors entered the waterfall areas where there are payment booths then they should not have had to pay an entry fee. This is just another money grabbing attempt by the hopelessly corrupt Government officials that run this Country.

I got a receipt. Chap had a book with about 25 so how did they issue over 1,000?

    How freaking stupid!

    Penny wise and pound foolish.

I'm sure next time they plan the itinerary, the cruise ship will go somewhere else and Ko Chang will get nothing.

These people here don't have a clue about business.

Don't drag your cheap butt to American parks and expect to not pay. As a senior citizen Veteran I still have to pay about B350 and that's a deal.

The TAT is thrilled to see 2.4 million spent quickly by the type of quality tourists they hope to attract, so to show their gratitude and entice these ocean liners to repeat such generous stops, they spring a fee of almost $US 10,000 on them.

And people actually study for MBA's here? I guess according to the Thai business model, we'll be paying admission to the likes of Big C and Tesco to enter their stores for the privilege of giving them our money.

People are simply missing the point: Koh Chang is a national park as is Koh Samet and you pay B200 or go away. I paid and got a proper receipt. If you don't want to go to a nice clean beach, Cheap Charlie, you can go to Pattaya Beach and swim with rubbish in the water. You will still have to pay for a spot to sit your cheap butt. My God, go home!

  5. Isn't the Minister of Tourism and the anti-alcohol lobby doing their best to shut Thailand down to partying ?

I'm sure this will be more than compensated for by quality tourists forsaking Paris, Rome, NYC etc.

Enlighten me as to what is now the desire to come here. I first came 25 years ago and it was fun and I drank a lot. Now, I'm finished with that and wondering 'what the hell?'. Have you been shopping here lately? Been to the polluted beach or are you paying an arm/leg to go to the islands? Seriously, what's the deal? Everything does look better drunk, right?

  6. Thainess at its best !!

Actually, this is the best part:

The condo manager and Mr Short’s own Thai wife, of ten-years, have also advised him to apologize to Bang Bang and forget about the assaults and threats to his life or it will always be a ‘problem for him.’

"Bang Bang" must really be suffering from SDS. And "Thainess" demands that those who are right apologize to those who are wrong.

This same bully problem happened to me with the death threats. I was told almost the identical same thing including 'video tape' the guy and come see us. The American Embassy is useless; don't bother.
