  1. Have the dimensions of the proposed ice rink been disclosed?

It will be an Olympic-sized hockey rink.

It's an odd decision to have this mall half-open as it is for 6 months. People will come to associate it with that. But I guess more promo when more things open will kind of fix this perception problem.

There's definitely a danger that the huge empty spaces everywhere in the mall will be filled with little stalls that then make everything look like a mess. But that's really up to the operators, they could also put a few nicely appointed shops there - think "outdoors" Cafe - and make it very nice. We'll see what they do. With the way the thing looks I'd think they have a better plan than either leave it empty or fill it with random stalls.

Didn't know about the ice rink - that's cool. Uniqlo, ice rink, theater, easy access, and the awesome children playing area they have - it's already open - should guarantee the success of the project.

Central Festival is going to be 2x the size - at the very least it's got 2x the budget (THB 6Bn vs 3Bn at Promenada). But Promenada doesn't need to compete with that, they only need to compete with Central Airport and those new smaller places. Not even going to mention KSK at this point.

Let's be happy that somebody is at least trying to do a new style mall like Promenada. I don't know anything like it in Thailand, to be honest. Even the latest malls in BKK follow the same old mall concept, the Central blueprint, multi level mall with maximum retail space and minimum public space. Promenada is quite different. Now please get it done in time. Those renderings above indicate they've got a ways to go still. The outside is basically a mess right now; what I find strange is that nobody seems to be working on it, either - hire more people?

I generally dislike malls - Promenada has the chance of being a place I'd actually like to go to. But I know my opinion doesn't matter, so I hope it catches on with Thais...

"Promenada has the chance of being a place I'd actually like to go to" To do what?

My point is not to attack you or anything, but as of right now I'm having a hard time finding reason to go there.

Sure it has more open space ( I actually like that), but apart from that there is nothing to draw me there.

Probably mainly due to the severe lack of parking space.

  2. They really need to fix the parking spaces. So far, IMOP, they only have the space of not even 1/2 of Airport plaza. Went there 3 times, found it really frustrating to find parking in an unyet finished mall. Can't imagine when it's 100% working.

They have free transportation to and from the city, but I live by the ring road, am NOT going to drive into town to ride the RED back out again.

  3. Personally. I think that the market is so much more supplies than demand. I think that the bubble will burst, but as bad as some thinks.

Right now it'll have to survive long enough for AEC to come on line, then there will hopefully be a flood of investment into CM.

  4. Wine prices sometimes depends on the volume of sale and also the 'credit's. You might start off with a bit higher price, but if you keep buying regularly they typically give you some sort of deal on it.

There are plenty of wine distributors here in CM. It all depends on what you are looking for and your price range.

  5. What is going to happen to all the confiscated cars? Back to the the Customs Department because duties were not paid? What an excellent business idea, a never ending stream of brown envelopes, and the cars will be back on the street again. Only this time Mr Tarits envelope will be a little bigger for his cooperation and discretion!thumbsup.gif

Auctions, like the one they had a while ago. And vehicle will be completely legalized!!!

  6. I remember reading in the Bangkok Post that BMW/Benz etc would not longer cover 'Grey Market' for insurance claims, so how complicated can this be?? I guess if you are Thai then these schemes are obviously hard to follow, so is this an IQ issue or just the fact that nobody cares that rich people are not paying tax for their luxury cars?

it is easy for BM/merc, etc to do this, as they can simply check the VIN against what the company actually imported.

The same goes for VW as well now.

Apparently they, the dealer, will charge you xxx,xxx.00 registeration fee, to get serviced. But still not covering breakdowns/ malfunctions costs.

i.e. you pay to get your car accepted into the dealer's shop, then you still have to pay for parts and labour costs.

  7. Tarit said seven relevant agencies would meet on Friday June 28 to find solutions for the unwitting owners of the falsely registered car owners, as well as deciding on punishment for those who had modified car engines and gear systems to fool inspectors.

Looks like the cover up operation for the wealthy and influential is under way.

Well look at it another way.

You buy a car from a respected importer. After spending that much, you would obviously expect everything to be clean. You, the buyer, have no way of checking the fact regarding the registration of the car.

It would be wrong to punish the buyer, they are not dealing with stolen goods here, UNLESS the car can be proven to be stolen from some where else.

Infact I can see the buyer suing the importer for false advertisement.

  8. glad that they managed to open 'on time', but I'll be waiting until around august before going back. The whole building structure should be finished by then.

Wish that they have more shops that are ready to open and not just 10%.

Yeah it'll take while to be at 100% occupancy, but that's normal.

Wish them a lot of luck. We, CM, need a new shopping place.

  9. Maya was planned for a 6 level building. With a couple for underground parking.

PLEASE do NOT put MBK there. traffic is bad enough that you don't need another mall.

Hope it'll be something nice with plenty of parking.

Heck spend some money and build a parking structure, charge 50bth per day/ per car, you'll be making a lot of money.

  10. Traffic is already a mess there. No idea how they plan to manage the traffic once the mall opens. To say it will be a disaster is an understatement.

And if you come from the Superhighway direction, you'll have to U turn at the Rincome intersection to get to Maya. That will be fun.. That intersection isn't nearly busy enough now, good to get in some more usage...? smile.png

or you could do the long/slow way, come up pass the KSK!!!

Or maybe into nimman and do a loop in a soi.

But which ever option you pick, it'll be a big inconvenience.

  11. I think that we are all forgetting the various malls that are springing up.

Promenada, Central Festival, Star Avenue (more of a 'lifestyle'), Gard Farang is apparently building another mall!!!

and all the various other fashion malls.

The traffic in Nimman area is notorious as is. Personally I don't think that I'll be there often. Central Fest is closer.

  12. So june 7 is now their soft opening. Only the cinema and uniq will be open. Some time in july the rest of building 1 will be open. Building 2 is scheduled for aug/sep.

ONLY the cinema and Uniqlo will be opening on 7th June? That's not soft opening, that's desperation. To me a soft opening is an 90% operational building, not a barely finished one.

But still, why not just open the whole complex in aug/sep time. When I'm going shopping, I don't really want to go to a construction site (except minor renovation).

Oh I almost forgot, where are the people who visit the Film Festival going to:

    1. eat?

    2. bathroom breaks?

    3. park?

    4. spend time waiting for their choice of movie?

Is that all happening in the cinema area?

Yeah i agree. Its piss poor.

I guess people will have to eat pop corn. Bathrooms will be completed. Car park in building 1 is already done i think.

Umm correct me if I'm wrong but to me building one would be the one nearest the super highway (left building).

Then the cinema is in the building on the right!

  14. There's an article on CM108.com (all in Thai) on the 2013 European Film Festival. Guess where it's going to be this year? At Promenada, June 13 - 23. They just had the press conference in Bangkok.

really??? I really don't see that happening. Or maybe they are having a 'drive - in' movie festival :>clap2.gif

  15. It all depends on how much are you looking to buy? Are you going to be a repeat customer, i.e. restaurant/retail?

You can try the Wineconnection, their price is decent.

Horeca does some private sale as well. Not sure about the price though.

Or if you know someone in the restaurant business, maybe you can 'join' the order list?
