  1. Are these 'entrepreneurs' aware of the term inflation....... something that hits employees as well as entrepreneurs. The cost of living especially with regard to basics has risen significantly since PTP announced it's promise over a year ago.

Any business which cannot afford a small (in baht terms) rise that should have been factored in for some time now won't last long, government support or not.

The minimum wage here are WAYYYYY below the minimum required to have a some what comfortable life.

However looking at the problem from the industries POV, increase wage will definitely increase cost of operation, and cut into profit margin. What do you think these industries will do? INCREASE prices. This lead back to inflation. It's a vicious circle. Unless the gov't can come up with a way to co-ordinate the wage with inflation, there will not be a pretty way out of this mess.

  2. The truth is all parties concerned were to blame, the reds for massing in such numbers & turning a protest into a living village, the yellows for inciting red camps by being in close proximity instead of staying well out of the way. Eventually the politicians who belatedly tried to clamp down on the situation but lost control themselves, protest leaders who lost control of their own protesters the police & army officials who had ulterior motives of their own to account for their actions & the worst of all the anarchists dressed in black whose ultimate aim was to kill anyone in the opposition.

It's history, leave it behind & move on, learn from the carnage it caused & become a truly democratic society.

Look around & as all the other Asian countries are embracing progress Thailand stands alone in the middle with it's internal fighting, politics & corruption.

Thailand is not emerging as Yingluk spouts around the globe as an emerging world leader, a hub of this that or the other, it is stagnating in a pool of hatred, it will slip forever backwards until it is too far behind to catch up & other leaders will not wish to bail them out with investment.

Thailand can hold onto the only brand it has "Land of Smiles" not land of Investment, education, agriculture, health, industry, technology, democracy.

The only thing Thailand was once famous for it's rice is now being trashed by governmental ignorance.

When will it all end.. I don't think it ever will !!

    IMHO

Ignorance and arrogance are a certain recipe for failure and Thailand endorses both as they continue to bumble along the path of recorded history. Your summation is spot on. wai2.gif

LOS isn't a democratic country, rather authorian. Power belong to the selected group with apparent display of "democracy". However instead of having just one group. here we have 2 competing groupscrazy.gif

  3. Get it all done before buying, Maybe you can split the cost between you and the seller. Just to prove that the bike can be 'legit', don't want to go through the process and find out that the papers weren't accurate.

Last I heard the BIB are getting crazy on licenses, high possibility of losing your bike to them.

A friend of mine got rid of his grey bike and now looking for plated bike due to this problem. Having spend about 2K every couple of months on fines alone, and with stricter reg. might lose his ride.

Bottom line- get a bike with properly checked out green books, and nothing else.

  4. Apparently the people in charge are getting stricter in licensing/selling spots. There were cases of people renting out their place and the renter selling inappropriate (for the area) goods, or not what the spot was originally licensed for.

Have you got Chiang Mai residency? You'll need that

There are LONG list of people waiting too, so don't hold your breath. However there are some that will rent out there spot maybe 2k/mth?? Not sure on the exact number.

  5. Funny but in the US I was a real coffee nut.

Grinding the best beans at home & I was looking for the best

at gourmet shops while out. drinking at little specialty shops

Now here in Thailand I drink Nescafe 3in1 in the mornings

& Nescafe iced can coffee while out smile.png

I guess since now I am in a condo it is just easier in the mornings.

When I am out & about hot coffee is just too hot given the climate

& ice coffee has too much heavy cream for me.

While Nescafe ice coffee has skimmed milk.

    Ah well smile.png

    Know the feeling.

Maybe it's just the fact that there aren't many places to chose from for the best beans. I go with Doi Chang Organic beans, not that expensive, but takes sometimes in the morning. In a rush nescafe can does the trick too.

I like mine " Red Eye" - a regular with a shot of espresso. in the morning.

  6. The OP obviously chose the title to get some reaction, and it did. Unfortunately, it also shows how he/she thinks.

To say CM's a cheap copy is utterly & totally outrageous. CM was a wooden based city, while Ankor, is a stone based structure. Stone obviously more stable and longer lasting than wood and bricks.

Square moat is obviously the easiest to build and control.

  7. major oopsies there. how/why the heck did you give him your passport!!!. Totally set yourself up there buddy. Sorry about your fall and the 'mobster' rental, but seriously...

Get your embassy/consulate involve pronto, they might be able to cancel your passport, and issue a new one instead. That way the rental guy is stuck with dead paper.

as with other comments, there's a couple of things for you to do.

    1: get your passport back

    2: pay for the repair

  8. They have now reopened the Esplanade branch, the closures were out of their control caused by landlord cutting power and water. The company seem to be doing there best to get the clubs reopened but just haven't communicated that to members very well.

I think there are too many haters on here. I know CALWOW have a bad reputation but they do appear to be trying to restore services for all their members. I for one say good for them for fighting to turn the business around.

Well, the landlord won't have to cut utilities, if they (CAWOW) actually pay their bills like every one else.

  9. I hear ya, some Boston Lager would be very nice here. Unfortunately we can't get US beer in CM anymore, don't know about Bangkok though. Some (see replies above) mention Villa Market, is that confirm??? Cos if it is, I might just have to drop by there and get a case of MGD and Sam Adams.

Found a decent sub for 'lite beer", try Phuket beer, almost the same feel. ... Not much there.

  10. It's impossible to implement totally. I, for one, can't see wage rising with out being followed by living cost increase.

Work places are going to get rid of extra people, are would probably be running on bare minumum to cover vacations, etc. I know mine already is.

On that note, has anybody notice a change in spending pattern of shoppers? I'm seeing a drop in spending/person trend going on.

  11. it sure helps, but very handy to have a map as well. Sometimes GPS will get messed up and take you for a side trip. Mine did that the other day. Or a totally fluke (happened once, never again) my dang GPS couldn't find the way home from Lumpoon!!!! Usually it'll take the most obvious route, but most often not the best route.

Works wonder when you're inside the old city, the roads & soi there are a bit troublesome, have to really pay attention to the 'alerts'.

Have to becareful of spelling, as sometimes there are differences between the machine and what you see on the map/internet.

Eventually, if you are here long enough, it'll become a "just in case" equipment.

sometimes I use mine just to see which route it'll take me home by, from different places. coffee1.gif

  12. I had the same thing happens to me, out of town for the weekend and got "Blacked" out. I BOUGHT my box, went to S...TV (in CM) they gave me the new box for FREE, plus all the HD channels (am on the platinum package). NOw I have a useless box and a new HD box. Alas I lost the recording ability of the PVR (not going to pay 3000 just for a hard diskangry.png )
