  1. Thanks for the responses. I will follow-up about about the Phantom grips, but Im really interested in the tennis grip approach, especially since it will probably be non-slip. Can I just buy it at Big C, or will I need to go to a tennis shop? I know they have a tennis shop at 700 year stadium.

a chopper grip might not fit the Click's handle bar, their grip tends to be a pipe, and not close ended like choppers. But if you want you could try the various big bike shops, Ricco @ wua lai, Burning, etc.

What I did once, worked for a bit was to get tennis replacement grip (the one with the padding, not just tape). Took a bit to get the wrap on real neat. Works up to a point, plus I found that my hand slip less as well.

I use to play tennis, so I bought the ones I typically use, Wilson's. Took many attempts to get it just right. If you want a bit more texture/width, do the next layer with the opposite twist.

For me, it works best with using one side per tape. Typically go for the tennis store for better selection. Will see if I have a photo of the result.

  3. nope, not really seeing Q1, but really could make Q2 if everything falls into place.

Scarily though, the tenants have yet to start working on their slots. That usually takes a while.

  4. There is parking at the side of the restaurant and a guard assisting for patrons of the place ; alternatively u can also park at Tesco and walk in less than a minute there I will give this place an overall 8 for the experience and solid alternative to dukes at this side of town of the superhighway.

Parking is a heck of a lot better now that the bars have been relocated down the road. Used to be seriously packed with motobikes, now it's pretty decent.

  5. Does anybody here have an opinion on the Nolan with the flip front?

    Thanks.

Don't know about the flip front model, but I'm using the N43-air. It's great, good ventilation (at 40+kph), great visibility. However the paint started chipping in 6mth.

NOTE: I don't take real good care with it, so it tends to bump around a lot.

Personally I like the Nolan helmets. But like most people, I also have the Index 300bht helmet for in the city, steal it and I'll just walk down the road to buy another.

  6. Sorry gents but most of the "honey" sold at markets is not real. It is fake - primarily brown sugar and water with a small amount of honey. Those vendors that bib (who I know is a culinary expert and whose opinion I respect) talks about with the combs intact are mostly scammers from Chiang Dao. We know a family up there who told us the scammers mostly come from Chiang Dao and come in to the city to sell their fake honey. One time while this family were in town visiting us, they brought some real honey from a farm next to their land as a gift for us. The woman took some honey from a bottle I had bought from the guy who sits out front of Ruam Choke Market on weekends with the honeycomb contraption. She put it on a small plate, poured a small amount of hot water on it, swished it around and I was amazed to see the "honey" dissolve in water. She took another plate with the honey she brought, did the same thing, and the honey stayed in tact in the center of the plate. Maybe the vendor at bib's local market is honest but most are scammers. Royal Project is real honey of course.

Kinda like Maple syrup ain't it. How the imitation stuff is actually more common than the real deal. And SAD to say it, the fake actually taste better.

I suppose that's due to the manufacturer blending it to fit our taste.

Most of the honey used is going into cooking/blending where taste and smell is important, so fakes are a cheap alternative.

  7. Right now, I'm seeing Benzine95 for 49.60sick.gif

However my bike is running fine with gasohol 95, unfortunately I'll have to revert to benzine during the rain for staying power.

Most don't recommend gasohol in the tank if the bike is going to be sitting for a while.

  8. I was motorcycling on a two lane road just after dark last night and three cars were oncoming. Last guy pulled out to pass and I flashed my high beams at him as I only had about a foot of shoulder. He flashed back and kept on coming. If I had not pulled over to the dirt while he zoomed by inches away, I would not be here today.

Another common motorcycling accident is what I call the swoop. You are pleasantly cruising along passing slower motorcycles and suddenly one or two quickly pull to the right to make a u-turn lane or an intersection. Two friends ended up in the hospital with that scenario and I've had some close calls there too. Those accidents happen fast with no warning.

I think motorcycling in the city is much safer than the open busy road, but if you ever feel safe motorcycling here in Thailand, hang up the keys. Motorcycling is very very dangerous here and you have to be on your guard 200%. Every other driver out there is trying to kill you.

The worst part of the 'swoop' (good name for it), is how detect it, or predict it. There can be no turn signals or head movements to hint that it is about to happen, it just happens. Not sure how but after a year I seem able to read the road better and was caught far less often, there is a good number of little things to look for that warn you some of the times.

Reading this post make me think about the "keep left policy" as in motorcycles have to keep the furthest left possible NO MATTER WHAT.

  9. Only stupid or ignorant people are riding bicycles on the roads of Thailand. I own a bicycle here in Thailand, but I would NEVER even dream about riding it out on the open roads. But on my motorbike I feel safe, when I can follow the speed of traffic.

I also have a bicycle, tried it once, told the wife it's dangerous to ride it on the roads. She don't believe me, blames me for beeing lazy. sad.png

In the city area, they're great. But I live on the superhighway, it's suicidal to ride. Right now mine is literally collecting cobweb.

  10. In chiangmai look out for three things

    1. red/yellow/white trucks, they don't look when trying to pick up passengers

    2. cars, especially out of town or red plates. But recently, especially eco-small cars due to the 1st car policy

    3. other motorbikers, typically the honda dreams, or the like. Sometimes they don't obey the rules.

[big bikes tend to be more careful, probably the repair bill would be ฿฿฿฿฿]

  11. Its not a Thai bashing thread - We're discussing 'observations of a different work ethic in different cultures'....

OK - some are Thai bashing. Is it bashing if the story is true ?

There's no need to be calling anyone monkeys BTW.

Friends of mine who work offshore told me this story:

A new Graduate was employed by a large Multinational Company servicing the Oil Industry.

On his First day and due to travel offshore his excuse to his boss was... "My Mum won't let me go, I have to look after her"....

don't get me started on excuses. Heard plenty of them.

Don't get it really, if they don't want to work for you then say it. Found another job? Say so. But YTF do they have to bring up parents, family, BF/GF, etc

  12. Bashing Thais are we? Starting a business in a 3world country, what were you guys expecting, same standard of the workforce as in the West but with local salary? rolleyes.gif

We're not expecting Western quality, but just some responsibility and ethic from these people.

Some people in the West are almost as bad.

  13. You could do the unexpected, pay more than peanuts and not get monkeys.

didn't actually make any differences actually. As some new grads are already requesting WAY HIGH starting wage for unskilled position (waiter, etc)

  14. Let's see

One applied for an office position: couldn't figure out how to use the computer - left

One disappeared after 7 days working

A few no shows, just come to handed in the uniforms, etc.

It's ridiculously how many job-hungry people there are. And yet how many of them have absolutely no clue to what they actually wanted to do.

Actually they DO know what type of jobs they want - little work, lots of money.

  15. There is an increase in number of tourists, but unfortunately the average grade of these tourists are lower than normal. Their spending power is low, and they are very selective in where they shop/eat/etc.

A friend of mine's a guide, complaint a while ago that they (his current group) didn't need anything but a driver and a bus, all the bookings were done back home. His company didn't do anything.

So really it's quantity Vs quality. Right now it's more people and less quality of people/

  16. recently ordered a weight loss supplement from the US (Rasberry Ketone) in a quantity that could be only for personal use. I have been notified that I need to pay 2500+ Baht for the Thai FDA to approve it. I have advised that I will not pay it so probably will never see it. Is there some new idiot bureaucrat in charge coming up with this crap? Anyone else having these kind of problems?

you needed FDA approval for personal use??? <deleted>
