  1. Oh great. Now I'll have to find something else to use....

All the good stuff are being made illegal, make absolutely no sense. Actifed and others of the same compound work wonders for allergies and sinus infection, no it's almost gone, now you'll have to visit the Dr, to get some. A real pain if you're using it regularly during the smog season.

  2. PTT has the same now. Yellow color, simply says benzine in Thai. 48B/liter

the price seems to be going up every other day.

    1st tank: 47.10

    2nd :47.50

    now 48.10

    !!!

    Will it reach 50?

  3. From the op,

Natthawut said he informed the prime minister that the decree would seek to absolve those detained or facing charges because of political conflict since the September 19, 2006 coup - but leaders of any side or group would not receive an amnesty under the decree.

I find this hard to believe that Nuttawat is excluding himself and Khun Thaksin from his amnesty proposal. Am I missing something here or did this news op miss something in the translation?

I don't think he is excluding himself or Thaksin. Both of them will simply argue that they weren't leaders. It's what Thaksin already does. In fact, Thaksin has gone even further than that, saying that he doesn't even know the red shirts. Natthawut will come up with some similar nonsense like saying he is simply a speaker and a spokesperson, not a leader.

NOWAY, NO HOW. He cannot claim to be just a speaker. He was/is one of the "face" of the party.

  4. older vehicles would get really messed up with the gasohol.

It'll eat away at your rubber hoses and seals in the fuel system, leading to major repairs. Right now I think that the best would be Vpower95 (gasohol) since I've heard that the % ethanol is lower than 10%.

You'll definitely need retuning the engine since gasohol isn't as efficient as pure petrol. Newer EFI with computer control stuff, could adapt to a certain level, but older carbs will have problems.

  5. During the Chavalit administration the interior ministry spent a huge sum to provide handguns for all their officials throughout the country. Not long afterwards it transpired a good portion of the guns handed out went missing. The insurgents in the south must already be thinking how they can obtain those weapons should it come to pass.

    EXACTLY.

How to obtain the weapon? Just hold out their hands and "give, or we'll shoot" would do it. Or some would just miraculously goes missing / lost / misplaced (if CIA/FBI/MI6 can misplaced briefcases/ laptops, hard disks. Teachers can misplace weapons)

  6. It might just be a problem of work space?

Some people here do not have enough space to work on the bikes at home. Back in the US, most people have garages/ drive ways (in WI, anyway) or go to a friend's place to work on their bikes without being on the sidewalk or street.

Plus, the culture here is totally different. You do not get a lot DIY's at all as there are a lot of shops to fix things for cheap.

And take into account that HD over there is the normal everyday thing, while over here its a luxury item.

  7. had a humble cheapest of line 883 back home for years. only had the dreaded cam chain rattling issues, other than that, its pretty fine. i guess the reason with harley being unreliable is due to modification. one of my mates rear frame developed cracks, probably due to his diy hardtail conversion. the engine itself are pretty dam_n bulletproof, just the usual cam chain and carb issues with the older models like mine. been out of the scene for a long time, but i suppose the newer models still as reliable or even more than the older ones

They're not burning through motor oil as much as gasoline, if that's what you mean. I but do still get it dripping if pushed hard. I totally agree that most of the problem comes when we mod the engine. Change on thing, you ended up changing many more things to make it balance again.

I changed the pipe (used to be F*** loud, but now waiting for a quiet pipe to arrive), that lead to changing air filter, then the tuner box and the list goes on and on.

Unless you know what part you're putting into the engine, you'll get lost trying to match everything up. That's where specialists comes in.

  8. I try to refrain but feel the need to pipe in here. I've been riding HD's since 1981. I've tried many other sport & sport touring bikes but can't part from the ergonomics and torque of a Harley. Thousands of miles across the US (and here) on Shovels, Evo's & Twin Cams. Never broke down on the road & with the dozens of riding buddies only had rare issues that could be resolved on the spot (or at least good enough to get to a garage or home). They're reliable bikes and they're far from rocket science. With some mechanical aptitude, the right tools & service manuals you can maintain & upgrade everything yourself. I see a lot more issues here because manuals & proper tools aren't used in many cases. Hell, the last bike I bought here had the rear motor mounts in upside down & some wire splicing with an array of colors in it.

I think it's great to have another wrench in town & wish AJ all the best! I look forward to swinging by his shop in the near future & you all ride safe out there!!!

The trouble I have here is that, I went to a supposedly big bike garage to get my pipes swap (simple, right?) from an ear drum bursting pipe to the OEM HD pipe. Guess what they managed to mess it up by not properly aligning the gaskets. Now my pipe is leaking exhausts, and waiting for some time to get it done right. Should have gone to my regular shop, but this place was just down the road and it's a simple(!!!) job.

  9. to clarify. He opened a harley davidson repair and mechanic shop

i have used AJ on a number of occasions to work on my Harley..he is on to it big time .. its a pleasure to watch someone that actually knows what hes doing, not like some other outfits who fumble there way through and are more or less practising working on your expensive baby...at a guess i think he would be the most highly qualified HD Mechanic here in CM and certainly hope he stays around...hes got my business for sure and many more to come i would imagine.

I don't get it. What's so special about a HD that it needs a highly qualified mechanic, to do normal maintenance? You know, changing oil, check tire pressure, check the chain etc. Or are the quality of the engines so balow, that one have tear the engine apart every now and then? blink.png

Well, HD is kinda temperamental in design. Tends to 'puke' oil from the filter if pushed too hard. The design has been stagnant for years, newest look being the v-rod (am talking about new design, not just a re-edit of old ones). Been told that it sounds like a tractor!.

The problem with repairs is that on occassion it requires specific tools that are not available outside of HD shops. The oil has to be a specific blend as the engine is air cooled, with oil being sprayed on the underside of the piston to help cooling.

HD are built tough, but parts are hard to find and pricey. Go to a qualify mech is better value for money.

  10. We eat there from time to time and like the food. Plenty of choice, easy prices and sit downstairs. Never had a bill for more than 450 for two and always full up when we leave. I know three other restaurants in Chiang Mai that charge a small sum for Aircon; but you won't see it on the bill, they just add it to the food prices. Amazing that people don't notice it isn't it?

I think that you are missing something here.

Of course we know know that A/C is added on, and that is normal. Places with A/C tends to be just a bit more expensive than non A/C places. That's NORMAL.

However to have the A/C charge actually appearing on the bill is NOT NORMAL.

I know the layout of the place, most of the seating are not A/C, I think that the manager/operator probably want to be fair and not added on the charge for A/C to the food price and only charge those who actually uses it.

Most places with both A/C and nonA/C seatings typically use the same price for both. Easier that way, and no one complains.

  11. I thought the reason that foreign companies weren't allowed to operate in the agriculture industry was that Thai companies weren't ready or capable to compete, yet they are apparently large enough to set up operations in neighbouring countries.

    Surely some contradiction here?

Not really, I think that originally this was aimed at Europeans/US companies with higher efficiency and therefore would out compete the Locals. However these companies that went to set up operation outside are probably using the neighbouring countries, and therefore would possibly be more efficient than the locals. Myanmar for example, has just open up, a ripe target there I would think.
