<snip>
One concern that I have is the water bill, I'm really scared to pay literally thousands each month. My condo charges me near 40 bahts/unit (how much litters is one unit??), I know that in a house I would pay something like 4 or 5 bahts/unit so it's a huuuuuuuge difference. We're two to shower twice daily and our monthly bill is usually between 800 to 900 baths. We don't waste water, showers are shorts and I close the tap while I brush my teeth!
Would a washing machine increase my water bill to 2000 or even 3000 bahts/months?? Scary isn't it! For this price I could have it ironed by hand at the laundry service downstairs! Jeez I hate the condo charges...
You are mistaken on this, in a house the water is priced around 15-20 THB per unit. Electricity is around 4 THB per unit.
I pay in my Condo 35 THB per unit for water and 4.5 THB for electricity, we use the washing machine (a Siemens Front loader) almost every other day and our water bill is max around 7 units (so 245 THB per Month) and that also includes showering (2 people) doing the dishes etc etc
A Unit of Water is usually 1000 Liters or 1 m3(One Cubic Metre)

6) Carry small change for the Baht bus and Food / Fruit sellers
7) Don't flash with cash and also it's better to leave that 2 THB gold necklace at home when going for a stroll on Beach Road / Only carry as much money as you need.
8) In Bars check your bills from time to time
"it's better to leave that 2 THB gold necklace at home"
I doubt you bought a gold necklace for 2 THB although you might have a necklace that weighs 2 baht.
One baht [weight] Thai gold is equivalent to 15,244 grams before it is worked up. After the work the weight should be equal to or more than 15,16 grams, to still be termed as one baht gold.
Until November 27, 1902, the baht was fixed on a purely silver basis, with 15 grams of silver to the baht.
THB is the symbol for the currency which, like the British pound, has a historical connection to measures of weight/mass.
—Encyclopedia Brittanica, entry "pound sterling"...silver coins known as “sterlings” were issued in the Saxon kingdoms, 240 of them being minted from a pound of silver... Hence, large payments came to be reckoned in “pounds of sterlings,” a phrase later shortened...
I was refering to the people who wear the fake (or worth 2 Thb) necklace

A Bit OT, but have you tried UK TV ? http://www.uk-tv.asia/
That works perfectly even on crappy connections like ours

I have a friend of a friend who got pulled over coming from Bangkok with a bike in his pickup. He was pulled over because he was speeding and the bike wasn't covered. He argued, so they started adding on fines. Next one was because he had repainted it and he didn't change the registration to show the new color. He argued more and decided to go to the police station. They added a speeding ticket for the bike!!! Ended up with some 2-3k Baht in fines.
I've heard of some really crazy reasons for pulling people over. Anything to get a few baht.
The craziest one I have ever heard, was from when my wife's niece got pulled over in Buriram.
Everything was in order, but she got fined because her Bike hadn't been washed
But it was only a 40 THB fine, no receipt of course.

Yes I'm talking about the letter for immigration for retirement extension purposes. This brings up another issue. I have always used in one letter from another bank for the 800K method. Now I will likely use TWO letters from two banks, which is allowed, but is that a different request from the bank if under 800K? Or just ask as usual -- letter for immigration? Yes I know it's preferable to go to the home branch for these letters, Central is my home branch for BB.
Hi JT,
I even have 3 letters (however used for extension based on Marriage)
And I always ask "Lette for Immigration" and I hand them the Bank Book.
1 letter from SCB with Deposit Account
1 letter from SCB with Savings Account
1 letter from BBL with Savings Account.
And I had no problem last June using the 2 savings account letters from BBL & SCB at Jomtienski Immigration
Edit: // Changed last year to last June

This post maybe helps: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/642693-getting-ready-for-the-1-year-extension-based-on-marriage/
But as a rough guide
6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady,
the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than
40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than
400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.
Letter from your Thai Bank showing balance and up to date bank book.
OR.
If income from outside Thailand: Letter from your Embassy showing income. Now may also need proof of income as back up.
If Income from Thailand: Statements showing Income Tax reciepts.Marriage Certificate
Marriage Registry entry.
Wife's Tabbien Baan and ID Card.
Your Passport.
Copies of everything.
Photos of you and your Wife in and around the house.
A map showing the way to your house.
Passport size photos and 1,900 Baht fee.
Take your Wife to be interviewed.
One or two witnesses may be required. You will be given a 30 day under
consideration stamp. Go back in a month and get the remainder. -
Is your pension enough to qualify ?
So maybe the immigration officer said just add the 65.000 THB which is in a Bank account so that you can qualify for the extension ?

It would help people a lot (as we aren't mind readers) to include in the post where you are looking for these covers.

She can't stay longer then 90 days within a 6 Month period, you can do the math yourself.
The Schengen visa allows the holder to a total stay of up to 90 days within a period of 6 months for tourist or business purposes. If you get a multiple entry Schengen visa, you may leave and return any number of times within the 180-day period, but the combined stay within the region must not total more than 90 days.

I have this problem sometimes when the Modem has been issued an IP Address within a certain TOT IP Range.
If that happens I even can't access Google.co.th but have no problem accessing European Sites. A reboot (or 2) or disconnecting my ADSL cable of my Router and thus receiving a new IP address usually solves that problem.

Already running in the news section.

I always receive them at home (as that is where I normally am) and the last one I received was approx 3-4 months ago.
It's no problem as I just call 1678 and tell them to Block them, haven't received any since.

No Problem for me also.
I'm in Pattaya and with TOT

I stopped in at Tops Daily early this morning (across from the Jomtien Complex and next to La Bocca) to do a little shopping and all seemed normal.
Sometime after that, however, they disappeared and the place is now a FamilyMart!
Wow in just in a matter of hours a change from Tops Daily to Family Mart.
Just 1 question, did this include all the signage or did you maybe walk in the wrong store ?
