    -real estate

    -blue chip stocks

    -AAA rated bonds

    -gold

    -precious stones

    -works of art

    -cattle herds

    -a coal mine

    -a crude oil well

  2. Thanks everybody for your comments, I know the test isn't too difficult, the only thing I dread if I have to retake is the ride along the yellow line.

When I took my test before I dropped off the line (at Rayong it is a couple of inches high) he let me start again, about two bike lengths from the end I dropped off again.

I retook it next day and made it.

So I really do hope Mr MJCM's answer is the right one.

(if you were down Phayoon Beach road Banchang a year last July and spotted a crazy farang practising starting off in a straight line then stopping again for another go it was me, much to the amusement of a gang working on the road!!!)

    He called me Mr wink.pngwai.gif

I understand what you are saying, I failed the same thing in Pattaya and (I think) that it was only because of my wife (sweet talking them) that they passed me. violin.gif

Please post again about your experiences when you have your new license

Don't let it go to your head, I'm only being polite because I don't know you and you might be bigger than me biggrin.png

If you are wrong and I have to take it again I might easily call you something entirely different. whistling.gifwai2.gif

  4. 8.5m to be wealthy? why not 8.5b?

I only referenced the article I read about the USA "standard" OK let's call wealthy now ฿8.5 That sound more attainable and realistic to me. But of course I'lll still have to look for bargains on agoda. 555

I would not consider having ฿8.5 Million wealthy if that is what the 8.5 refers to, but my MIL and BIL would.

For a Thai (normal upbringing, 8k Job) that 8.5 Million is being on the top of the world, on the other hand for some people that amount is peanuts. So it all depends who you talk to.

  5. Money can buy everything except Real Love and long time happiness wink.png .

Who told you that? If in Thailand, take a look around. That will prove, you are wrong!whistling.gif

What is long time ???? You come then you go wink.png

Ooh sorry that is short time thumbsup.gif

  6. They say money is the route of all evil! I must admit, I sometimes wish that I was an evil person!

Some years ago a broke friend of mine once quoted an actress as saying the only thing good about having lots of money is that it let her not have to worry about having money. If the amount is right, that makes sense to me.

But the most important thing (among other things that is ;) ) what rich people worry about is losing their money

  7. Bangkok Bank deals with all in-bound foreign banking transactions and therefore you will get your money quicker than if you used any other bank.

You will have no problem transferring funds in electronically from your European account (SWIFT code and Acct No) but no Thai bank will allow you to do the reverse unless you obtain permission from the Ministry of Finance.

I use HSBC and hold 2 accounts on in Thai Baht and one in AU$. This way you can hold most of your currency in you own currency and transfer it to the Thai Baht as required.

If you need to transfer funds back to your own country then you still need to obtain permission but you are not going to be stung with unfavourable exchange rates.

I strongly recommend that you get a foreign currency account in Thailand.

    Hope this helps

I tried bankok bank and no can do for a european. I think americans are only allowed this.

You need to give us more information - what is it they cannot do?

As long as you have a Thai bank account they will accept a transfer in from any bank (well probably) so it then depends if you are able to transfer over the internet with your European bank - nothing to do with the thai bank as such. (As long as mentioned above you are not trying to transfer out from the Thai account).

You may also get a better response if this subject was moved to the banking forum?

im sorry you dont seem to understand my question. Im talking about internet banking, not bank transfers!

    Just guessing, but ....

    Do you mean ?

A ) Europe -> Thailand sending money via Internet Banking

B Thailand -> Europe sending money via Internet Banking
