OK, that's on 'loads a money'

Please read my post which calculated it for 65k per month, 780k per year.

Read the Excel sheet again please

Tax is calculated per year and the Sheet calculates 65.000 THB per month over a year period. (and thus accumulates 780.000 THB) which the Sheet calculates tax over as Tax is calculated per YEAR and not per month

If they straighten the cable they may gain a few hundred meters, and you get your 500 Mbps ????

I have seen places near here where the cable goes over the ground between 2 poles.

We told them so many times, but no use. I am more then happy with what I have because the alternative is 4G/5G and that definitely (at that time) didn't work here.

In our other (OLD House) they strung the cable (Fiber) over the ground as well, they forgot about it and only when we called they came and a guy climbed up a ladder and tied the cable to a another cable that was there with a tie wrap :cheesy:

I know... I'm spoilt where I am now...

I have 300/300MiB (but paying for 500/500 but the speedtest goes only to 300) here now, and I live 1,5km from the nearest box and I download from my Server in Europe at great speeds.

I am very happy, the only bad things that happen (knock wood) is during rice harvest. Because the guys left the cable (our one) hanging a bit low, so during rice harvest the harvester snaps it, but it's usually fixed in a couple of hours

18K is a bit rich for a fiber cable connection, but if it is the only alternative then I will pursue it.

At least with fiber you can get 100 Mbps or better, but 4G is (currently) limited.

The 4G LTE Cat6 router that I am looking at is capable of providing broadband speeds of up to 300 Mbps.

I do not want to have to wait 4-5 months to have an internet connection... 4G or 5G is currently the only option.

I fully agree that 18k is expensive, but just have 1 month with that 4G/5G connection and let's talk again.

In my area, after 4pm I could not even stream Radio stations till around 10pm and forget about it in the weekends and on Holidays.

    But of course YMMV

    :wai:

Edit: The 18k was the price around 2-3 years ago, so could have become cheaper.

No idea, I used that AIS Wifi (4G) when we build here, but what got us our Fiber was

1- Find out which provider service your Area

2- Pester their Info number (local office also) often

3- Mention that you are willing to pay for the Cable to be run to your location

4- Find out who the designated Service People are and give them some "coffee money"

    5- Have patience

In the end the only provider in the area came and pulled a line (just for us) over a distance of around 1,5kms at a cost of around 18k THB and from start to finish this took around 4-5 months.

Yes, but in practise there has never been any follow up if you don't file which has always been tacit approval not to file. Even last year when I filed at the RD District 1 Head office in Chiang Mai, the tax officer thought I was nuts for filing a return when I didn't have to pay tax and didn't get a refund. Her exact words were, "you don't have to do this".

How things have changed. Glad you were on the ball

If this goes ahead as it currently stands (not details) the pundits are saying that the interest you earned on your savings is potentially taxable while you are a tax resident of Thailand. The issue of when it is taxable - remittance - in that year - partial or fully when remitted - is all very complicated.

    Thx.

I have looked and checked over 2022 the interest and stock gains are less then the RD 150.000 THB  exempt and then I also have 60k (I believe) extra because I am married.

Will still go out of the country for at least 6 months to be on the safe side.

  8. I wonder how the RD going to deal with this situation

I am still too young to get a Pension and just live of Savings (sold my house etc etc many moons ago) and I am not a registered Citizen in my Home Country any more. Most of my assets (accounts) are still there though.

Money for Immigration is in a Fixed Deposit account since ages and I just transfer money in (declared as living expenses) once in a while (when we need it).

But just to be on the safe side I will stay (in 2024) out of Thailand for approx 6 months at least till the dust settles.

They just cannot stop their greed of other peoples money. I'd rather spend 7 months in the UK away from the family and then 5 months with them, than pay them a single baht !

    +1

That is what I am also going to do for the first year (2024) for sure

Ps: Please do note (I don't know about the UK) but EU is the same as Thailand with their 180 days in the year Tax Residency, so I don't know if that will affect you.

Isn't there some catch with this too, that you pay twice essentially, once converting EUR to THB (loading your virtual thb account), and another when you move it to Thailand? I remember looking into this when the pound was peaking but I couldn't get a clear picture of the fees when using wise.com for storing.

You are correct in your thinking, but even transfers (EURO which converted are well over 50k THB) are almost instantly added to your Balance and don't take a day or so to get transferred to your Thai Bank account and that is why I use it.

And transferring the money out there is AFAIK only a fee of 31(ish) (YMMV) THB for any transfer

Have a look at this screenshot (taken just now) taken when sending 90.000 THB to my Thai Bank account and the fee is only 31,70 THB

(This transfer would arrive on Monday (tmrw) in my Thai Bank account)

I personally like it, but it's up to personal preferences of course)

What if I was a tourist? How would RD differentiate between a pensioner or someone on a 2 week vacay ?

YOU (MAY) have to prove that you HAVE been in Thailand during 1 year (Jan 1 - Dec 31) LESS then 180 days.

    Count your days carefully.

    It's clear as mud currently!
