  1. I am looking for some practical advice please. My thai GF and i plan to have a baby next year. she will also apply for a uk settlement visa next summer i guess, about the same time she could get pregnant. My GF also has two children - 5 and 8. She would like to bring them to the UK, on a permanent basis as well. We were thinking to apply for my Gf first to come to uk, then apply for the 2 children to come over on permanent visas, then try for pregnancy. but you never know, she could get pregnant first. i am not sure how easy it will be to obtain 2 visas for my GF's children.

would this be the best way to do it?

if my GF did happen to get pregnant next summer, while she was waiting for her settlement visa acceptance, if she told the visa people she was pregnant they would probably deny her visa? i dont know.

also, if my GF has a small baby, then appplied for a settlement visa, would it go against her? i hope not.

    thank you for you replies

  2. hi, just a couple of questions pls. i think i am allowed to complete for VAF1A on behalf of my girlfriend. If i do so, do i just need to say i did so, but not why i did so?

my gf has a criminal conviction for drink driving ( lol - i just found this out ) - it was 3 years ago. obviously i must include this - but do you think it might be a problem?

also, the question ''If someone other than yourself is paying for all or any part of this visit, how much money will they give you? Please also explain why they are paying for all or part of your visit ''

i dont think i should put an amount in here, just say, i will pay for the holiday, and provide money if and when is necessary? and why am i paying? because she cannot afford it - is that ok

''and finally - What is the cost to you personally of your stay in the UK?''

it will cost her nothing - the visa guy will be ok with this yes?

the form looks quite straightforward though, so no problem there

    thanks for answers

  3. Hi kunash,

    I quoted your post below:-

and changes her surname to mine,

Why would/should that be? Your future wife could still use her maiden name btw.

hi, i was thinking of the western way once married, for the lady to change her name to the man's, but maybe this is not relevant in thailand? i know thai women do not have to take the man's name. for example my gf's sister is married to a farang but keeps her thai name ( i was told she did this because of this land rule - which she is incorrect about ). we might move to the UK, we might stay in Thai. I have told my gf that i do not mind what name she keeps. it is completely up to her. she has thought about taking my name but is worried about this land rule. she has don a bit of googling and i think her mind is now at rest about this matter.

  4. my thai girlfriend believes that if she marries me through a buddist ceromony and also register the marriage , and changes her surname to mine, then she will no longer be able to purchase land or a house in thailand in her name. her sister told her this, and also her sister's farang husband told her. now i know, from reading these forums , that was the case before, that was the law, but the law has been changed, and if a thai girl marries a westerner she can still buy land even if she changes her name to the western name.

can someone please confirm this. is this change in law recognised everywhere in thailand? ( i know some areas may interpret the law differently ). can someone please provide me with a link to this information. this is important for me.

this is worrying my gf, and because of this she doesnt want my surname. unless i can show her some written proof

    thanks for replies

  5. hi, thanks for the replies. i phoned the japanese embassy in BKK. they advised as i am paying for the cruise, i should write an accompanying letter, like a sponsor letter, which details our relationship, mention i am paying for the holiday, and details of the holiday. i should also provide copies of my bank statements and employment details. my girlfriend also has to show she has enough money in her bank account, to support herself ( even though i am paying ). i suggested to the visa lady at the embassy that i could deposit a large sum in her account in january. she advised me against this. instead i will transfer smaller amounts each month. my letter might help a small bit, but the main emphasis will be on my girlfriend's application.

i will probably do the same for the china application.

  6. there is a software you can download, which makes a copy of all skype history. i do not know the web address. so you will have to do a little bit of hunting. from what i can remember it was posted in a forum, and as the software was updated, they replied to the post. but if you do a good GOOGLE search it will take you to the forum post. ( it wasnt this forum )

  7. Ok one last question!

I'm worried about our evidence of communication for the past 7 months. All we have are text files which were copied and pasted from msn. We have over 500 pages of chat, but none of it is time or date stamped. Is this likely to be an issue?

what i do when i copy MSN chat logs is ; get the relevant section of chat log on the screen, print screen, save to desktop, open file, and print 2 copies. i did this for every single line of our chat for about 2 or 3 weeks, then i got bored lol, as it was so much copying. ( this shows dates, and times ). now i print 1 page per day.

( will be applying in january for uk visitor visa )

  8. hi, next year, after a visit to the UK, by my thai girlfriend, we will return to thailand in May, marry, then fly to china for a short cruise ( honeymoon), calling at china, south korea and japan. My thai gf, does not need a visa for korea, and she believes she can quite easily get a china visa. but she is a bit concerned about the japan visa. she tells me, all they require are copies of her bank statement showing she has enough money in there to support herself.

we will be in hiroshima for 1 day, then tokyo for 2 days, then fly to hong kong. if need be, i can put 200,000 baht in her account in january.

i will phone the Japanese embassy in bkk on monday, and see what they say. my gf does not want to use a thai visa company ( to get the china and japan visa ). though if she is declined for either, then she will.

does anyone have any idea how much they will want to see in her bank account? when she asked them, they were not very forthcoming.

and will the china visa be quite straightforward, as my gf claims?

my gf told me she could get the visas no problem, they will be easy to get. i have now booked the holiday, and now it seems it will be a little more complicated to get the visas. anyone had any dealings with getting a visa for china or japan for their gf, or can offer any advice.

    thanks alot

  9. thanks for replies guys. call me old school or call me uninformed, lol, your choice, but back in the day ( late 1980's or around 1990 ) i owned a klr 650. it was a road bike, but it was also a trials bike, as it could go off road. i did have road tyres put on it though. i prefer the ride of a trials bike, compared to a racing / road bike. ( i think a trails bike - is purely off road )

i would love to own a gs1200 bmw. but a little expensive i think. i did go to hua hin recently, i saw a guy from germany there on a gs1200. it was on german plates. i asked him how much it cost him to import, and he said nothing, he did it through his work. i forgot to ask him what job he did, though he worked in bkk.

but yes, i am after a trials bike. :)

edit; as i said i call a trials bike - a bike that can go off road and also on roads - like the gs1200 - maybe i have my terminology mixed up ( trials, trails, enduro.... ). if i do, i apologise,

  10. hi, i will have a letter of residence and be entering the country on a non imm o type visa. so i think i am covered to buy a bike. where i am , surin, all i see are mopeds for sale. i want to buy something a little bigger. maybe a 350cc trials bike or 500cc trials bike. nothing to big.

would i have to travel to bkk to buy one, or could my local dealership get me one if i asked?

it was suggested i could buy a KLX 250 kawa - as this would be the biggest bike i could buy in thai - but could i contact my local kawa dealership and could they get me one, in surin
