The only way Don, or anyone else in similar circumstances, could force the hand of the Thai authorities, is to overstay a few days, then ring all the media outlets and arrange for them to be there when he hands himself in and is detained.
With the right headline, a story like that will go global, and this may shame the Thai's into some change.
Problem is, at 90, Don probably would not survive detention.
if it were me id just say "lets call the whole thing off"
and hope for the best
wouldnt need be travelling out of the country at that age
depend on where he lives the authorities most probably wouldnt come after him and haul him away.
what are they gonna do?
Put him in detention centre at 90y.o?
and its even a bigger PR and logistic problem to repatriate
probably if he was up nakon nowhere they would have turn the blind eye and nobody annoy him
but now hes gone public who knows

What percentage of the 0.0036% of the population do you think would be most effective?
Because that's the proportion of western expats in Thailand's population.
yes but AFAIK immigration only deal with us alien farangs, not the whole Thai population.

Many (like me) are lucky to have even 1 bank account.
They are getting nearly impossible to get nowadays without work permit, marriage etc
Actually my troll detector is lighting up more because of his "Jing jing" style of writing:
that is all these so called "changed rules" that actually have been here all along but now being enforced in a way people cant cheat out.

Are only leaving because of the 800k in the bank rule?
You can read people reporting here the agent are saying "business as usual"
so if you cant comply now, it suggest you been using agents in the past?
Im suprised you would think any generals/bosses in immigration
would bother with your letters.
I think they would have zero comprehension of this kind of technical English writing
In any case, when they notice its English it most probable destiny is the waste bin.
Maybe you should have got a sympathetic Thai (or even payed a translator) to write a big sob story in Thai.
Actually it would be good if someone would make a template of such a letter (in Thai) that other posters can basically use (and tweak)just so we can individually sign our names to as im sure many is facing the same issues.
If enough of us send a letter to them, it might have a slightly better chance of gaining traction

ANY relationship anywhere will not survive if female thinks
" there is no benefit to me at all" or
" I getting nothing out of this"
And dont believe posters here who say they never contribute 1 baht.
complete BS!
If can afford to have a woman around, you must get skilled and play this game.
Contribute yes, but just enough, without being a walking ATM.
sex and the pบssy are a commidity here, that is the truth.
Even if you had a good girl it wont be long before some thai will convince her she is an idiot for
" giving away to the farang for free"
OP, if money running low, its really best to get out and do it alone
before you are totally skint.
(because for sure, they WONT look after you then!)
you can take care yourself and live cheap in Thailand, happy alone with the right attitude.
even a few LTs and STs now and then will never cost what marriage does.
The example from Thai guys will tells you marriage is for mugs here!
Thats why they run away, so not to be milked dry and then deserted..
And even worse for us because everything here is set up to benefit Thais: not farang!
your marriage visa finished: get out next week!!
Ask yourself what Thai woman ask..
"what am i getting out of this??"
they even make the marriage visa rules to be benefit them.unbelievable!!
and what you get:
1. Pay for a bit of mediocre uninterested sex,
2. the pleasure of slowly getting milked dry.
3. the pleasure of providing everything then in the end being insulted, disrespected and called names and kee-niaw

I even took her Stateside for a vacation (no problem getting her a visitor visa because she was a government officer). My second Thai gf was a plastic surgeon registered nurse. My third was a village girl, but owned her own house up the mountain from Chiang Mai. My current one owns a restaurant very near the Vietnamese border, somewhat southeast of Udon Thani. I also had possibilities that I didn't follow up on with a beautiful pharmacist and an airline ground staffer. Do you see a pattern emerging? If you're a little further in life than a backpacker and not gross and haggard-looking, there are plenty of women in Thailand for you who are "real" women--i.e., not in the sex trade or bargirl milieu.
if you dont mind me asking, since all the various woman you describe here sound like a perfect catch
(have money, house, good job)....
why you havent settle with one of them ??

sorry to disappoint you and you theory, it may be the case with some girls but not all.
i met a lady in a bar about 15 years ago all she wanted was to meet a good farang man i ask her many details about her life her parents were ok for money all her sisters either had their own line of business or had good jobs and i stayed in touch with her up until now. she met a man from the uk here, he lived here she then stayed with him no demands for money or anything like that ive met him also and they are both very happy. her reason for working bar was never about money sorry if ive spoiled your week.
not at all. maybe your English is not good, or my writing English is not good because i actually defend the ones others have called hookers,
but my point is dont brand them all hookers. thats all
for sure, when a Thai girl has REALLY good English and their English even
better than some former prime ministers..
lol
what does it tell you?..
either
1. studied/ lived abroad.
2. have an exceptionally good education.
3. been with xxx farangs!
And im sorry if i spoil your theory but actually if some of them speak better English than some former Thai prime ministers than you really must wonder about it!

i get where your coming from but i bet there are more than a few TVM here been married as you say to hookers for many years and are very happy.
i think it all depends on why a girl is working bar what her life is like, if her family are poor etc.
so you think these "hookers" are working bar because its great fun and such big money?
sure there are hardened ones that grab the opportunity with both hands and really play the game and turn out bad.
but there are others from the villages who older girls coming back on holidays convince them,
go to Krungthep, jap farang..easy and big money...
but some really have no idea what they are getting into.
the way people like you call ALL of them hookers is quite disgusting when you see where they come from and the poverty

Feed her family, or feed her shopping/drug habit.
if that were really true, how then do the other 98% of Thais who don’t resort to sex work feed their families? how do fat girls survive? how do males survive?
They get a real job. Prostitutes in all countries are greedy and lazy,or have drug habits.
Thailand is no different. There are plenty of opportunities here to get ahead, which is why millions of Cambodians and Laotians and Burmese work in Thailand.
i also not I have never seen a starving thai, there is food everywhere. Plenty of other ways to feed a family.
yes, you are right. no one ever truelly starves here but that is a testament to how they treat the poor who cant work.
If you ever been in Isaan, you know the quality of education and how many can afford a (useless-and only paid for) university degree in bangkok..
and all else not born in a good Chin family will earn 300baht a day as servents..
so what would you do?
As a guy, if females were lining up to throw money at you for sex what will you do?
rather work on a rice paddy for 200baht a day + food and 1 bottle of Leo?

why they not go after the companies and people that helped him?
im sure he didnt dream the concept and built it himself?
yes, its the same old story, he is stupid for believing thais who told him
" yes, can do, no problem"
Really you have to cringe EVERY time some stupid farang outlays money in a ridiculous project in Thailand.
I really dont know whats worse,
-not doing research and believing the Thai con men or even worse..some woman with a 6th grade education
or
- thinking you are the big farang whos gonna make a lot of money.
but this project was never gonna get to far in this political climate.
its probably the most ridiculous and stupid idea (or con) ive ever heard and i have heard many

It'll be fine - until she used up all your money; hears the word "no"; and you don't mind her selling herself to other men and have other "boyfriends" on the go.
Good luck.
and this to explain the huge difference in thinking.
you would laugh if she told you dont go home to work in the mines for big money, because its dangerous, right?
actually, You trying to push your morals (where you come from a safe welfare state) onto someone who have no other way of feeding their family.
In her mind really you are saying " its ok for me to go earn money but not for you because what you do is bad"
in the same regard many girls will probably think:
" you dont want to support me financially, yet you dont want me go making money any way i can either"

So you are another expert with no experience. Would you go to a doctor who only had an education through hearsay?
Divorce rate in America is 50% and you lose most everything. Seems to me marriage to a bar girl in Thailand has better odds.
Yes, a lot better odds in that you can dissapear without a trace and not have some court settlement/ have income garnisheered by a court after just living with them.
Can even dissapear from Bkk and youll probably never see her again.
other than that, staying with them long term its a battle putting up with BS and constant childish tantrums and demands for money.
of course, they know very well you can dissapear any time and there is a "superannuation" thinking factored in on how much they must get out of guys while they are young looking and not burnt out.
it a game for us and business for them
and you need to turn it around.
the smarter guys know they can have fun, learn the language real good then
if she cost to much, dissapear and look for a "good girl/good job" etc
just a word of warning, the wrong "good girl" gonna cost you 10x more than a bargirl as they have even higher expectation/maintenance cost!!

The thai military is only capable of oppressing it's own people.
They can not control a real combatant force such as those in the south.
well i can only say, this "Big Joke" character is like the Thai version of batman and doesnt even need a Robin.
they should really test his mettle and send him south to sort it all out!
-
I dont think many care about history of who did what in whoevers, and whatever country in history.
get over it.
The fact remains, the Thailand South has always been a danger spot and the same old groups causing the same trouble and using the same excuses for their murderous behaviour for many years..
when the rest of Thailand ARE tolerant and really just want to live in peace.
Im really suprised the whole Thai military dont just swarm on the whole south and go through them house by house, deporting the bad guys to a country where they are invited to practice their Sharia law or whatever suits their religion.
The peace loving world must really have enough of them by now and one must wonder if the real reason for the trouble is this crowd are NOT GIVEN everything FOR FREE, like there cousins in certain European countries.

So it seems some have a problem to not touch the 400k for 7 months per year?
But if have 800k, is still possible to spend 400k over 7 months right?
so 400k ÷7= 57,142
So, if a living expense is 57k per month:
for the other 5 months of seasoning when cant touch, you need an extra 285,000
but really?
how many retired guy is spending 57k/month here?
(most pride themself they can live off the smell of the oily rag. as can read on many thread)
anyway, If you spent 800k down to zero in 1 year
thats 66,000baht per month, and then STILL have to top up to 800k for the next year extension right?
the way i am thinking, you need around 1,085,000 baht for a year.
(allow around 90k per month)
in my case i spent nowhere near 45k per month
and the rest is for insurance if i had to leave Thailand quick.
and as for keeping 400k baht locked up,
invested in bank in my country, i am lucky to earn 10k baht per annum interest on that amount....which is peanuts
or baht bus money if you prefer!
I dont see why the big fuss,
at the end of the day the money is still yours to spend,
unlike the ridiculous burning of 500k or 1mill on some elite visa

they obviously think people are working illegal.
No - that is just an excuse. The OP could mop floors in Poland and make more than working an illegal job in Thailand. They might stamp his passport with the "came to work illegally" stamp - but usually they just claim to have telepathically accessed his fiances, and "know" he doesn't have the funds to support himself in Thailand (in this case, for 30 days).
Ok, like i ask another poster..
why do you think they will deny one certain person and not the other?
Im sure many 1000s might have a repeating visa history same as him, but pass through without a problem.
not doubting what you said, im just always ask myself why they single out the people they do?
must have some particular reason or other evidences that worry them?

Where did you dream this? Millions of tourists arrive in Thailand every year without a visa, they are entitled to a visa-free stay and they get it.
The problem is that the OP had been spending 10months/year with TV, not that he arrived this particular time without one. I think the IO were right to question his purpose, although of course they could have done it with a more open exchange of information.
In the end, he is flying to KL, which is not expensive and will probably give him a chance to enter Malaysia and maybe try Thailand again, depending on what they stamp on his passport, so he is not too unlucky.
i dont think you read what i wrote after the bit you highlited.
I talk about people going back after have many repeating VEs and SETVs already, not the "one time" tourist.
From all reports on this site, all the people who got denied entry (excepting for 1-2)
all try to come in using Visa Exempt method.
and all going to Don Muang airport and ALL have a long tourist history in passport.
not being argumentive, but what is your explanation for why they would deny certain people and not others?
the many 1000s of others that pass through every day?

The OP states that he had a flight ticket out within 30 days..
Yes you would think that would be ok,
so therfor now there can be no doubt the biggest NO-NO is to turn up without a visa.
especially after having many previous entry or other VEs.
they obviously think people are working illegal.
If even having a return ticket no longer satisfy IMMs, then the airlines will have to check that every passenger going to Thailand already have a visa.
90 year-old Don is leaving Thailand
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
Really only new requirements is:
- amount of time you need to keep money in the the bank....
which provides proof that you do hold that money, instead of just some BS income letter
This has been pointed out SO many times but people still dont get it.
Of course if you NEVER had 800/400k baht to start with, but still (SOMEHOW) managing to get many yearly extensions,
sure its gonna be a problem.
Funny, so many posters here
cry about PC,
crying to mods if someone challenge them,
report people,
invite to my ignore list (lol)
cite laws that others break,
Actually for years, these same guys take every chance to ask:
"have he got a work permit for doing that"
(everytime someone is doing something to help themself or Thais)
Now many of these same posters been caught out and quite obviously been breaking a very BIG law for many years.
hmmm what goes around comes around hey?
maybe Thailand gonna invite you to their ignore list.
