  1. I was there on the 16th for my 90 day reporting and it was the longest that it has ever taken me in the last 6 or 7 years. I was there for 2 hrs or maybe a little more. I got there about 1:30-1:45 pm as I always do and was there until almost 4:00 pm.... The queue was at 609 and they gave me number 652..... There was many times the queue didn't move a single number for 10 or 15 mins..... and then it would race through 6 or 7 numbers.

I never had to sign or fill out any additional form that has been mentioned but the woman who did mine looked at my visa and told me it was going to expire on July 29th. I said I know, I will be in next week to renew. She informed me that they are now allowing you to renew your visa up to 45 days before the old one expires. That was new information to me because years ago I went to renew with like 3 weeks left and they said to come back when it's within 2 weeks..... Never did like waiting until the last minute.

BTW, I wish they would fix the audio (English) for the queue numbers being called out. Has anyone noticed how they say the fours are zeros? Been like this for a long time. I got to point where I only listen to it in Thai.

It seemed to be extremely busy on the 16th.... More than usual.... and it showed as the parking at the gas station across the street was getting full..... I wonder if they will ever upgrade the size of the building as well as make appropriate parking.

I was there on the 16th too. Arrived at 10:40 and it was the slowest I ever seen the queue move. I had to come back after lunch to process my 90 day. Next time I'll try after 3pm or fork over some baht for an agent.

My extension last month only took 45 minutes, at least that section has become more efficient.

What do you mean by took 45 minutes. Did you have an appointment? Did you just show up and get a number like when you don't have an appointment?

If you had an on line appointment that is not that big a deal. I have heard several in half an hour.

Yes, I had an appointment. Should've clarified that. Still the fasted I've had an extension done with an appointment since it was introduced. Usually takes about an hour and a half.

  3. My advise is to register your marriage in Thailand. I did mine at Baan Rak in Bangkok, no hassles like in some other Amphurs. Should you buy a house, register an Usafruct agreement with the local land office, this will put your name on the Chanote(Not as an owner but a registrant). You should be able to obtain a yellow Tabian Baan book with this arrangement. Having the Yellow book and a happy marriage does make life easier in Thailand. I'm assuming that you both want a house to provide a good environment for her children. My first consideration in buying a house would be to provide a nice place for all of you to live in rather then as an investment.

The marriage visa financial requirements are less but it's a real hassle to obtain compared to a retirement visa.

I'm not a lawyer, just my advise so you might want to consult with one.

    Happy retirement

    Edit: Spelling.

  4. Does anyone know where West moved to.

It was located in the area opposite Hillside 4 on Huay Keaw which is now being developed for a new condo.

Just off the Irrigation Canal on the large area of concrete, where music performances are held, we had the Italian restaurant M cuisine. It's old location had been gutted and when I passed the other day was being rebuilt from the ground up.

The west changed their name when they moved. It's now called the Compass. http://compass-restaurant.com

  5. I have a good friend that's Hong Kong Chinese and he despises the mainlanders for the being discussed reasons. He calls them Locusts(very derogatory term in HK).

I remember visiting Thailand for the first time years ago, there was always literature around in tour agencies, on the planes and hotels on how to behave when visiting Thailand. Tour guides would always tell you to be polite, take off shoes, the Wai, etc. Looks like the Chinese tourists are not getting the memo.

  6. Treaty of Amity and Economic Relations with the US does not permit US citizens or US owned businesses in Thailand to own land or conduct business in the real estate sector

Please see my OP. I do not wish to own the land nor be involved in the real estate business. I will lease the land (as I already do with my other hotels, in my name only). That does not need a company or Amity company. My interest in this idea was to ensure control over my hotel (guesthouse) business on that land, without involving anyone else (Thai or otherwise), especially my ex-wives who have an interest in my current hotel businesses.

Although I can trust my Thai ex-wives right now (meaning 2 minutes past 8am on 15th August 2013), that might not be the case in the future (ie, in 60 seconds from now) smile.png

My major concern would be if either of them predeceased me. I trust my ex's but not so much some of their family members, (who may not have the intelligence to understand the benefits of leaving me to manage those businesses).

Couple of years ago, I registered an Amity company as an individual. I've since sold the company. Unlike a "Thai" company, I was required to obtain a work permit when I registered the company. If you use an LLC as a registrant, you might run into issues obtaining the Amity protection. The Thai government is no fan of Amity companies so they'll be very particular on enforcing every rule possible with the registration process.

Might be worth a consultation with Sunbelt Asia though.

  7. >>Have a usufruct agreement ready and signed (between you and the Thai buyer -- who is funding the land purchase with your money), before the land sale. When the papers for the sale to the Thai are filed, the usufruct is filed at the same time.<<

Em ,except for the fact that you can not do it at the same time .You have to wait at least one week after the house purchase .My experience is with buying two house ,one in SanSai and one in Doi Saket .

Why do people give such totally wrong information about something so important to others ?

Did mine at the same time, just checked my documents. This was 5 years ago though.

And which land office ?..there are many around Chiang Mai .BTW ,my experiences were from 3 years ago .

San Sai office. Had a lawyer draw up the contract and an assistant of his accompanied us to the land office, worth the few extra baht.

  9. Rooting an Android device does open a whole new world of possibilities. Some brands will void the warranty but most will still honor it on the hardware at least. Even if you un-root the device, it's difficult to erase all evidence that the device has been rooted before.

Check out the xda-developers forum. Search for your device on the site, you'll find plenty of information on the ease and risks involved. Can't post a link to another forum on TV, you have to google it.

  10. I booked an online appiontment recently and due to printer failure was not able to print. Now am able to print but do not not queue card code, on previous times have received an e-mail confirming appiontment but have not recieved one yet have others received e-mails lately. I have e-mail an enquiry to immagration but have as of yet. Has anybody esle had this problem

They seemed to have stopped sending out confirming emails.

The key thing is the que code -- I always write it down before printing an appointment confirmation because it sometimes seems the confirmation seems to escape into thinair once you request to print it.

One thing I like to do is use the Windows Snipping tool(Win 7 and later) and capture the confirmation image. Now I can print it anytime and archive the queue card image in my email.

  11. It's the new Formula 1 Circuit.

Why don't they build that thing in Pattaya where there might be a few people who actually appreciate the WAWWWWOOOOOOOOM WOOOOOOOOOOOOM WOOOOOOOOOM?

LOL.. I was actually thinking that about the Go-Kart track too; those things can make a bit of noise too.. Fortunately it's located next to that government social housing compound, and not people who's opinion might matter. wink.png

Pattaya already has a couple of Go Kart tracks. I used to live near by one down there and it was LOUD. I wasn't one of the few people who appreciated the noise but it looked like fun.

  12. thanks for all the suggestions, guys.

im finding my main issue to be hdmi INPUTS. everything 10k and up has an hdmi OUTPUT but its rather difficult to find a receiver with any inputs (im looking for at least 2).

anyone know what brand(s) i should look for? so far ive found only pioneer, lg, and samsung to have the setup similar to what im wanting. onkyo does as well, but cant find the system anywhere in thailand (and not looking to go through vat/import process).

Just about all the new receivers out there have several HDMI inputs. Pioneer is widely available in Thailand. Also check out the new Yamaha and Denon receivers. Neo Entertainment carries Denon.
