  1. While we are talking about HSBC, I had over 40,000 Bht equiv. (HKD) in a HK account on Saturday. Tried to draw on Aeon today, could only get 38,000 bht. Somebody is making a pretty penny! Anyone know who is taking the difference? Grateful for any advice - 2.5 to 5% on top is a bit rich.

Looks like TT from the bank to Thailand might be a better deal - if I recall it's about 1,000 baht. Anyone have a better (cheaper) way to bring money in?

Yeah. Open a paypal a/c in your own country and another in Thailand. Deposit money in the home a/c and transfer it to the Thailand a/c and from there transfer to your Thai bank a/c.

Takes about 10 days but only costs about #5

    All up costs about $5

  2. Strawberries come in 2 types. Strawberries which are sour and the sweet variety. If you want sweet you have to ask for them specifically.

Haven't eaten them for years until recently it was pointed out that they had some sweet ones as well.

  3. If you play golf the Chiang Mai social golfers club always welcome new members and they have a 10 pin bowling club too. The same goes for a squash club and tennis as well.

The Gymkhana club and The Pub are good places to meet expats as well.

Don't worry meeting new people is easy in Chiang Mai; the only problem is to pick which ones you want to know.

  4. Don't quite understand it.

If the DSI says there is sufficient evidence to issue a warrant for a arrest why does it have to go to the prosecutors for approval. The DSI people are not stupid they know if they have enough to prosecute or not.

Not sure what you are on about here.

The article clearly states that the warrant is in operation.

The DSI have completed their report on Thaksin's extradition and will send it to the prosecutors who will then follow the recommendations.

All you have to do is read the article and use a dictionary if necessary.

  5. We recently used a little guy on the river road. Shortly after you pass under Mahidol road he has a little shop on the right about 50 yards before 7-11. The shop front is open and from the chairs and stuff it is quite obvious.

We had all the padding and upholstery replaced on a sofa bed and were very impressed by the quality of the work and the price.

Yep. He did a great job making cushions for my lounge suite.

  6. The embassy is only giving single entry for free.

My accom problems were solved by an agent called Sean, who is an agent for all types of accomodation in KL and he knows them all.

He dosn't charge you but gets his money by commission from the hotels, guest houses etc.

    Contact him

Oh and one more thing THAIGOLFER could you tell me why you don't use the caddies at Gasson Lakes or would you like ME to tell the forum?

    ---------------

Yes please, YOU tell the forum. We all waiting for it. However don't wait too long as people might think you need time to find another excuse.

BTW; when you notice I am ready to hit and all of your 5 ball waived me to play, YOU NOT START CROSSING THE FAIRWAY ANYMORE. You just wait on the left side where you were, until I finish my shot. Capito?

Not at me to apologize my friend, I am still waiting for it despite you closed "the matter already".

Well if I were incensed enough to write and whinge to a forum then certainly I would have laid a complaint with the course management, unless I had a prior history of unsubstantiated whinging to the same establishment.

And seeing as how I had already paid the caddy fee I would certainly have used their services unless they wouldn't work for me.

Enough is enough, you are causing yourself grief and wasting my time. All you are doing is providing the whole of Thailand with an amusing diversion. If you are happy to do that fine but don't drag me into your perverse pleasures.

  8. Holy H, I don't believe this thread.

First of all let me clear a few things up.

I have been golfing [badly] off and on for quite a few years now [for the pedants probably about 45.7231 years]

and am quite familiar with the rules and etiquette of golf.

I don't post here much but do read occasionally and the reason I replied to this post [indeed found] it was that it was pointed out to me by another member of our group[who was not present but guessed it was us because no one else played Gasson Lakes then].

When we started playing the first time we were the only ones on the course and had no qualms about playing a fivesome.

Now Thaigolfer once I found out that you had been called through, which had no problem with, I then had to get out of your way because by some stroke of fortune my ball was on the fairway. I was in the process of doing that and you walked off. You had to wait 20 seconds? Good heavens man I hope you didn't expect me to run for you [maybe I would have if I had known your importance].If waiting 20 secs was the cause of your game being ruined then I'm concerned for you. This does conflict a little with what I posted before but I'm sure that you can understand that my previous post was made late at night and upon reflection I can assure you that this is an accurate account of events.

The reason I am posting is not that I care because I don't, but because you have a trigger finger that has caused you to misunderstand the situation.

You see in the first instance all 5 of us understood your predicament and to allow you to play through was just plain common sense seeing we were the only players on the course.Your mistake was that you did not give me time to find safety.

You have a very short fuse my friend and then to get teed off because we wouldn't let you join us? Would you if the boot was on the other foot?

We will let you through again if the situation ever happens again but please understand that I am an old man and give me time to get out of your way.

Your apologies are accepted and we will consider the matter closed.

dont worry, thaigolfer every nation have people who dont have good manners. you're unlucky with partners, but what to make of this tragedy? )) and i say too (me like its phrase=) ) - Follow the light my brother... it will guide you to inner peace =))) skills32, you are probably very important person... Queen Elizabeth may be your grandmother?

Motosai trip around 75 province Thailand in 180 day

No 'queens' in my family, just an ordinary chap, minding my own business and trying to stay out of trouble.

Life will go on with or without me although I prefer the former.

  10. Never let the truth get in the way of a good whinge.

There was a five ball holding us up so to let you through today would not have helped you.

Yeah I was the guy who walked across the fairway because that's where my ball was.

Yeah I kept looking at you because I didn't want to get hit by your ball.

No I didn't say no to you joining us because I didn't know you wanted to join us, but if I did I would have said no because when I did see you at what, the eighteenth[?] you proved to be quite obnoxious and full of your self and then you started firing questions at us as if you were a policeman.

You caught up to us at the seventeenth, only two holes to go and wanted to join us, we said no and you should have just been patient and finished the game out as we did.

And the reasons the guys didn't want you to join us was because of your behaviour the previous week.

Oh and we do come from three different countries and you were told which ones and my name is none of your business.

I'd suggest you find people of your own ilk to play with [if you have any] or hit off at 6.00 am. Either way you will have a round free of delay, but then again you might find your self stuck behind a Thai 6 ball.

  11. OK to really clarify this topic.

I have lived in Thailand for 10 years and turned 65 in 2007.

Early 2008 I went back to Oz and applied for the old man pension. This they granted but didn't tell me about the former residence rule.

I came back to Thailand a couple of months later and they disappeared my pension.Well I'm back on the phone and they tell me about the

former residence rule. If you leave Oz for more than 3 years and come back you are deemed a former resident and can get paid the pension

whilst you are in Oz but if you leave there is no portability ie you can't get paid if you are outside Oz.This lasts for 2 years and then

you can go anywhere and still get paid.

I fought this through all the stages and lost until I got to the AAT and after I lodged the appeal I had a phone call from them to sort

things out.I told the guy that the rule was brought in for (those) who came out here, worked for 10 years and went home

with their pension.I then told him that I had worked my whole life in OZ and went O/S because I couldn't get a job. He agreed and told me they would relax the rules.I've been back here for 18 months and the money is there every fortnight.

    Hope that clears things up.

  12. The issue Vietnam vets is complex. I am not sure if the authorities and doctors really understand how the war really affected these guys.

Should they have sympathy or contempt?

I personally know a few who still have flash backs and start screaming as if they were still in the middle of battle.

And of course a lot of invented symptoms.

  13. I would live with 'red' and think you would be ok..

Actually this is something I need to know as mine was blue (even tho it was blue / silver) is now white and will change again..

Had a blue bike and when I went for rego the guy noticed a splash of red under a scratch.Obviously repainted unbeknowns to me and not picked up by previous inspectors. He wanted the repainter to supply a certificate of colour change.so I had to arrange one from a painter in exchange for 100 baht.

Suggest for convenience sake organise a certificate of colour change before you reregister.

  14. Gl seems actually that there are perfect places in chiang mai, say o malleys, queen vic, the bear.. All of them perfect for a good afternoon crowd (esp the bear, what a stunning location) just: strictly 'bring your own crowd' because in all of those places you don't find a soul during the day.

And check your bill and change.

Sorry wrong post this reply was to the mention of "The Pub"
