  1. A little bakery in Chang Khian makes whole wheat bread, no sugar and quite large loaf. Great stuff.

Turn left into canal rd from huey kau rd, then left at the next set of lights. A little sign on the footpath about 150 mtre on your right reads bakery and coffee.

Also makes scones, danish pastries and some other stuff.

New to area and worth a look.

Sounds great. Is the left turn from Huay Kaew onto Canal in the direction of heading away from old town moat area, toward CMU? Landmarks near the new bakery?

    Sorry about the lateness

    Coming from the moat

Turn right into Canal and then left at the first set of lights, about 800 metres..

  2. This happened to me a few years ago and the way it works is like this.

Apparently there is some one that records the transaction. And sometimes that person is not as honest as he should be and so he whacks a few more identical transactions through for himself.

I think that it only happens at privately owned ATM's and not the bank ones.

Your Nigerians et al are really the Thai owner of the ATM.

  3. I bought a Kowasaki Boss a few years ago and asked my Thai police friend about insurance. He took me to an insurance shop close to where Dukes on the river is and it cost something like 750 baht.

I had an accident ( car coming out of the bush without looking on ring road 2 ) and busted my shoulder.

Any way the people at Rajavet asked me if I had insurance? yes. OK you can claim 15000 baht, which was 1/2 of the bill.

About 3 months later I went to their head office in Mae Rim and the first question I was asked was 'why have you waited so long to claim?'

Apparently the Thais go there first on the way to hospital.

Any way an hour later I walked out of there with a cheque for 15000 baht and it didn't bounce. I was also asked if I wanted to claim damage to the bike which was only scraped and I said no.

This sounded like comprehensive ins to me and cost nothing like the premiums mentiondd above.

No wonder the ins bloke gives good service; He is probably putting the ins through the mob I used and getting a nice little earner.

  4. You can also try creating 2 PayPal accounts: one using US bank and the other using Thai bank. Then just send money from the US PayPal account to the Thailand PayPal account. The transfer fee is only 0.5%. For a $5000 transfer, the fee would be $25.

There is only a $5 fee for transferring into your home Paypal a/c. Transfer between the two PP a/c's is free and the transfer into your Thailand bank a/c is free.

But Paypal say they have to convert into Baht before depositing into your a/c. Conversion rates are better than your home bank and nearly the sams as the Thai bank's rate.

I am just doing my second one now.

  6. Best idea is to let the water leak out until it stops leaking. Then at least you know how far you have to dig. Do this after you have checked out, the more obvious spots.

You could also use you ph test liquid and put a little very close to your outlets and inlets. If the liquid moves into the pipe you have found your leak.

  7. I have had dealings by mail.

Anyone has an idea what they charge for the services for extension of visa ?

I reckon we have to visit their office as well to handover the passport or do they have a courier service ?

    Cheers
    Lawrence

  8. I am guessing that it was some kind of special blood test. I paid something like 100 baht for the last one that I had there.

13,000 Baht? My guess a decimal point missing or misunderstanding or, as you say, very special. I've had full screening several times for all key indicators due to cholesteral and hypertension medication and included liver, kidney function, sugar, cholesteral, and a list of several other things for less then 1300 Baht.

The blood test was a test for Myeloma and he said they would have to send it out and the quote was thirteen thousand baht.

If it came back negative then they would have to test for something and if that came back negative then another test etc.

I could see where that was going so I'm getting it done in Os because I have to go there anyway.

I have been told by my medical advisor that the price seems to be over the top.

  9. Can be simple or hard to repair depending where the leak is.

If you unscrew the screws at the top of the valve, the top lifts off. What you will be looking for is a crack some where. If you find one then buy a new valve.

If it is coming from under the valve assembly is an O ring if the O ring is ok then look for a crack in the filter itself.

Pool and filter repairs and maintenance is pretty hit and miss here.

  10. When living in PNG a freshly arrived chick expressed similar concerns about gekko's.

I told her to wear black socks to bed and she would have no problems.

She went out and bought some and wore them to bed ...... and did so for the next two months until some one wised her up.

    True story.
