I got on one and got off at the same place, as he squeezed more people on.. I didn't pay 10 baht! Or did the driver accept a contract to take the passenger until he asked to get off, for 10 baht.. and he reneged on that contract?

Not sure one needs to go through all your recommended palaver. They simply look for easy marks and mostly would move on if you stand up to them, ie go looking for easier targets. I guess it is intimidation.....I would ask to be taken to the police station..... Oh and stop smoking you litterbugs.
