  1. Slightly off topic but I nearly hit a woman catching fish flapping in the road when I drove home yesterday (Tuesday). I guess the OP refers to the heavy rains Sunday evening..... did it drain off more quickly or are all the drains that have been laid a failure? No standing water on Buakhao , nor 3rd on Tuesday despite getting more rain.
  2. 'Monitoring and preventing any violence'? Inclined to say getting involved and showing how it really should be done....
  3. Well it is supposed to be closed to traffic in the evening and night at it's most busy times. Although motorcycles were on the move when I have been there.
  4. So far they have not done so bad in the last few years, dare we say the drainage at R-Con has helped? I seem to recall getting stuck in that area multiple times each year in my early days here. Watching the water level climbing up my bike in fear or riding in it with ruined footwear.
  5. I used an agent and pretty sure they supplied only one original of residence certificate and medical certificate... for my two licences. I got the cute girl who helped me to myself too.
  6. I have had to get rid of 3 trees at my place... they sure grow fast here. Most recent was a coconut tree which was getting very tall and could have fallen on the house, it was also a contender to attract lightening strikes.... another was threatening to undermine the concrete of my small pool. A third was a Ban Yan tree which was growing profusely and I expected to break my adjoining wall to my neighbours place any time soon. The latter 2 we did not plant, nor were there when we moved in. We did enjoy them for some years and the shade they provided but ultimately became to big for my garden.
  7. Well not meaning to be pedantic, there is actually often one or more in the little AC box at the junction where they derive great pleasure and amusement messing with drivers controlling the traffic lights. (But mostly play on their phones).
  8. They will remove them, then get complaints from said business owners, and then reinstate them. Back to where we were!
  9. It's a double edged sword, the number of such illegal venues always increases to the point of them being too many, blocking access to the very businesses that attract their customers. Then there is mafia like system behind it.....The large number of parked motorcycles is more of a problem in my mind, completely blocking access to some places and difficult to clamber around.
  10. Is it to be in long tail boats or speed boats?
  11. Oh I share that sentiment.... people should not be be laying hand on others and that includes women... far too often they hide behind their gender and get physical and dangerous. Sorry to hear your friend is still ailing.. I do hope the guy who did this has been punished in some way (but fear he will be there on soi 6 again).
  12. Had heavy rain where I live North of town too last night...pleasantly cool this AM.
  13. Probably the wife and her reverse parking.
  14. And the Irish, don't forget the Irish!
  15. You make it sound quite justified... she got off lightly compared to say a farang tourist misbehaving on soi 6, many of whom end up in a coma.
  16. A Porche driver, a Cambodian construction worker dead, we know someone will be getting a free pass here.
  17. I do, it's called Pattaya..... the locals can't keep it clean. Where I actually live out of town.. well I thought to say it is better but not really. Trash cans get overturned by dogs, locals use it as a tipping ground, you often see trash coming out of a moving vehicles window. Most of the City trash comes from visiting Thais at weekend leaving the beach strewn, It's a tourist town, those that make money out of it should keep it attractive.....nonsense to suggest farangs should be cleaning the place up. Why focus on them, majority of Thai tourists are Thai, Chinese, Malaysian, Indian. Ever been to India?
  18. It can be, but it is usually window dressing.. ie cheaper shown price if delivery has to be paid... more expensive if not. Generally delivery very reasonable and I have found efficient from domestic sources.
  19. I have regular visits from Home and Pool guys but they don't do much beyond testing, dosing, vacuuming, empty traps, scoop out leaves and scrub the walls. If it works don't fix it they say.
  20. Doesn't make sense to issue a 5 year licence to someone with only a 60- day permission of stay.
  21. I wonder what has happened to the thugs that did this to the guy!
  22. So what are we saying... they made at least one good car?
  23. You distracted me with that comment. He needs to plead innocence and require them to produce the evidence.
  24. AS I said, it would be a waste of time, litter would be replaced in under 24 hours. No problem would be solved. I do pick up Infront of my home often. I pay property tax too.... 'council tax' is not a Thai thing that I know of. Despite the fact the locals often blame the tourists, yes they all arrive with a suitcase full of empty beer containers, locals are more responsible. Tourists do not dump piles of cement and old spirit houses in the cassava fields. I choose not to be a servant to their bad habits.
