  1. get signal extender like bearextender, I use it when I stay in hotels, you can hook it up on usb cable, 3 meters and put it on balcony, near the door .......

or just move for god sake smile.png

    Hello

Please excuse my ignorance here but would that help when in an apartment building where the wifi router is about 5 metres from my front door ?

Will it speed up the connection or merely make it more stable ?

Is it available for sale in Thailand ? ( or an equivalent)

I can`t realistically get a dedicated line for now as might be moving, would just like some temporary improvement in speed/ reliability.

  2. Just curious but would it be feasible to find a reasonable ( large) studio or even a small 1 bedroom apartment for around US $ 250-300 per month in PP centre, within easy walking distance of the Riverside ?

Understand utilities extra, just rent cost, part furnished for say a 6 month let.

I guess the answer is yes but unsure.

    Thanks.smile.png

  3. My ( Thai) GF likes shopping & spending( not excessively) but does have a knack of finding some bargains.

Saving maybe boring for her, she does a bit though

I don`t like shopping but if there is something I want/need I`ll buy it and if a big ticket item do a little research first.

I`m probably more of a saver than her.

  4. Yes the two money exchanges in Soi Diana - always higher than TT by a fraction

    Location:

Opposite Areca Lodge and next to LK Renaissance and the other one is directly opposite same side as Areca

Others talk about the money exchange in Tops Supermarket - corner of Pattaya Klang and 2nd Road BR side - depends on your location

    Thanks.

    Handy to know.smile.png

  5. thanks Naam, keep them coming. BTW i have still got my LLOY and RBS prefs which i notice in an earlier thread you said you had now sold, is this what you switched into?

i assume you hold GBP. i had RBS CH0180006097 denominated in CHF and Lloyds XS0717735400 denominated in €UR.

yes exactly; the LLOY 9.25 (GB00B3KS9W93) and the 9.75 (GB00B3KSB238) perpetuals and the RBS (ex Nat West ) 9 (GB006227051) also a perpetual

    wordchild,

I hold those same 3 as well and have done for some time.

Seem a little highly priced now compared to previously but it`s quite difficult to get decent yields without taking on excessive risk.

I`ll continue to hold for now.

I also have some Aviva perpetual prefs, only know the ticker code GACA ( 8.875 % ), also gone up a fair bit of late though.

    Naam

    Interesting list, thanks.

    All the Best

  6. try west east travel always found them very good

I don't know why people are suggesting this.

The company only offer flights FROM the UK or Ireland return. Not the other way.

I booked my wife's BKK-LHR ticket through WestEast.

You can't book BKK-LHR on their website but you can if you phone.

    I hope this clarifies.

    Hello

    When was this please ?

A one way or return ?

I like West East and have used them many a time, LON - BKK.

When I asked about 2 years ago for a flight originating BKK to LON,on the phone, they said they could not do that.

Maybe I got a staff member who couldn`t be bothered, not sure.

I`m not doubting, just curious as I`d happily use them again ex BKK.

    Thank You.smile.png

  7. Hi

Not sure if of any interest but this is a newly opened market in naklua/north Pattaya.

Accessible from both 2nd Road, on the right just before the Dolphin roundabout or Pattaya nua, roughly opposite Fairtex/Moon River Pub.

Appeared to be plenty of parking available.

It is nicely laid out, was quiet when I took a quick look, easy to walk around.

One whole row of food stalls, the rest normal market fare, clothing, watches, fish tanks( which were competitively priced), pet supplies etc.

Couple of places to sit down and have a beer/coffee/snack.

    Some stalls/booths yet to open.

As far as markets go, it should be fairly large when they fill all the units available.

I visited around 6.30 PM and think it runs to about 10.00PM, could be later( unsure on this)

Don`t know what time it opens, will try to find out if someone else doesn`t beat me to it.

    Hi

Fairly( very) sure none of those places would have any problem with you bringing a friend back.wink.png

A fair bit of choice along soi bukhao as to places to stay within a similar price range.

  9. I don`t know what the best place to rent would be but did notice that V & M Terrace at the Pattaya Klang end of soi bukhao have an offer of 8 K baht a month or 795 baht a night.

Small swimming pool, no elevator, room I looked at some time ago seemed OK.

R- Con Residence on soi bukhao I think have an offer of about 10, maybe 11 K baht a month or again 795 baht a night( I could be a little bit out on this one re. pricing)

A friend has stayed at the Diana House you are trying to contact, think paid about 11 K a month, seemed happy enough with it.

Booking 1 or 2 nights somewhere and then looking around would seem a reasonable idea, as suggested above.

  10. In addition to the video:

    1. If anybody is behind you, give them the evils to back off.

    2. Change your PIN number frequently. If you think anybody may have seen your PIN, go and change it.

    3. Have the bank send an SMS every time you have a transaction - if you've been skimmed this is the quickest way to find out.

    4. If somebody approaches you saying maybe you left some money in the ATM and waves a 100 baht note at you, take the note, run like hell to your bank and get your card cancelled.

    5. Use ATM's at a bank if you can - generally safer and more likely to have better security.

    6. Don't count your cash before you put it in your wallet or pocket. Keep it hidden and ram it straight in the wallet - anybody seeing you with a fist full of 1,000 notes might be tempted.

Edit: On point 3 - the skimmer may be clever enough to turn off the auto sms before he uses his skimmed card. I check the balance once a day anyway just to be sure (not difficult with an ATM every 20 mtrs on most roads)

Also, don't print a receipt, or if you do, don't leave it lying around. Anybody seeing that you have serious baht in your account might be tempted to twist your arm for the pin number.

I should add that I was skimmed as described in point 4, so am a little paranoid. crazy.gif

    Hello

    Thanks for that list.

    No.1 yes I do that.

    2 I don`t, I should

    3 I do.

    5 I do, generally.

6 I usually count to make sure the amount is right but good point.

I don`t print off the receipts as a rule, some rare exceptions.

    4. I`ve heard of that happening, never encountered it, what is the catch here, how does someone gain ?

The instinct would be to return to ATM, yes, then what ?

Probably a naive question but better I ask and learn.

Thanks for any answer on no. 4.

  11. Interesting post, haven`t read the entire thread, will do at some point.

I`ve never asked my Thai GF of a few years to get a beer out of the fridge for me, dare say she would if I asked but haven`t.

I accidentally knocked something over and went to clean up, just instinct, she stopped me and merely said " I do "

My fault, my mess, I should clear it and wanted to.

She regarded it as something she should do.

Not really sure what to make of that.

  12. I added online service to my account. Best thing ever. When a withdrawal or deposit is made, I get an automated SMS message on my phone showing the amount. When I withdraw money from the ATM, my phone buzzes before the money even comes out of the machine!

This sounds like a great service, but what can you do if you receive an sms at midnight Saturday night indicating your account is being plundered? Is there a number you can call to get the bank on the job then and there, or the police, or....anybody? Maybe that's covered further up the thread, and if so, sorry. I haven't read it all.

    Hello

In the case Of Kasikorn, yes, they have a 24 hour phone number you can call to cancel/freeze your card.

I had need to use it once, late and found the service helpful and efficient.

As well as a couple of security questions, they also wanted my passport number.

  13. ..... usually just pick the cheapest amongst them, normally Thai or EVA.

BA were selling one-year validity non-stop return tickets for a couple of months recently for from just over GBP500. I paid GBP558 for mine.

You wont be seeing prices like that from EVA or Thai any time soon, I think.

Thanks for that, when I`ve looked before I found BA to be the most expensive.

You did well, just came up with £ 882 for 2 flight dates I tried.
