  1. Hope you enjoy your trip.

I liked Shenzhen when I visited, large shopping centre very near the Luohu train station.

    Good location IMO.

You might be able to do a deal or two there.

Not everyone`s cup of tea but I quite liked Mini China/World theme park, short taxi ride from the train station.

if you have time when your trip is over I for one would appreciate a report, be interesting to see what you think of Shenzhen/Guangzhou.

  2. I enjoyed my visit there earlier this year.

Good food, good service, laid back and friendly.

    Never bored.

It made a refreshing change from Pattaya, which is where I live.

Band at El Coyotes a match for the best here.

I`d happily go again for a break.

    El Coyotes or El Murphies???

    Maybe they changed the name

    Sent from my i-mobile i-STYLE Q6

    Apologies, El Murphys.biggrin.png

  4. Some interesting answers.

This was my vote : "Probable that I will still be living in Thailand 10 years from now."

I can`t say for certain but that best fits.

I`m fairly happy here but things could change.

I do fancy later on splitting time between Thailand and other countries.

I`ve kept my property in the UK( rented out) so could go back if necessary/wanted.

I like Italy & Switzerland and very much enjoyed my short visits to both Cambodia and Laos.

I feel there is some more exploring left for me to do.

  5. Not bad value is sea side one behind pink lady on beach road. It's not the best but it's great for price Roast Chicken start's at about 150bt with R/Beef at 170bt good portions with all the trimmings include's mustard horse raddish + lot's of other English goodies. Smoking outside non in the aircon. Tip eat quick in the aircon as it will go cold. They also have a full Thai menu.

Open all day roast's available every day from morning to night.

Yes, I`ve been there a few times, as you say good for the money, not the best but OK.

They do a lamb roast but I`d welcome any suggestions for any other Central Pattaya place doing a good lamb roast.

  6. Hi

As per previous post, Loma clinic is still there, just past soi 27 on the right hand side.

I`ve used it a few times for minor stuff, no complaints, fair and efficient.

There is also B.P. clinic, same side of the road but before Loma clinic, i.e nearer to Dolphin roundabout.

    Never used it.

  7. Hi

I wish you the best of luck in achieving your goals.

I wonder why some seem able to eat( and drink) what they want, do very little exercise yet don`t put on weight.

Although my comment might seem inappropiate, I`m one of those few, your topic title caught my eye otherwise wouldn`t have read.

Is there more to it than diet and exercise?

For years I wanted to put on weight but simply couldn`t.

Lost that desire but still don`t put on weight.

    Similar age to yourself.

A strange trick of nature maybe?

100 % genuine and with my wishes for you to achieve what you want.smile.png

  8. Pawnshops are crazy here--you often see items at prices similar to new ones. I have never understood how it works; perhaps those are just starting point prices? Perhaps they just go for the occasional clueless buyer.

I wondered the same and maybe they are starting prices as you say.

Someone did suggest that some buy from them at the asking prices but on credit, pay off a little each week.

An expensive way to buy if true.

  9. I don't agree with nothing happening overnight, I expect to see a massive labour influx the same as we saw when Poland joined the EU.

Hopefully we'll get some decent plumbers and electricians out of it.

    That would be good.

I agree with the nothing happening overnight bit.

One of the Asean leaders has already commented on stumbling blocks to approaching 2015.

    Protectionism at play.

Unless of course it suits those who really hold power.

    Time will tell.

  10. Once again; most of the comments here come from guys who haven't a clue. The raid on gold and silver was a raid on paper positions, ETF 's and derivatives. Everyone is buying as much bullion as they can pay for. There was a drop in paper positions ***The recent "drop in bullion price" comes as a result of there being no official segregation of paper position from physical holding.*** Just try and buy silver without forking ov a silver round to spot price premium that amounts to more than the actual drop in the spot price. Check it out. If there were a big bullion sell-off in play, you'd be seeing a tsunami of g&s for sale at Kitco, Tulvings and Gainsborough. There is NOT such a sell-off in progress. In fact these huge dealers have either doubled their spot-plus premium of taken physical product, especially silver right off the market. For a crystal clear take on this read Reagan's former Ass't Treasury Secretary, Paul Craig Roberts. A true fiscal conservative, PCR blogs the truth about what the banisters and money junkies have been doing to what was left of the US economy for the last decade. It's a looting. The banks run that country anyway. He'll, they run all the countries with central banking systems. Read Paul Craig Roberts Few people with any serious position in bullion divested. Thais included.

I happen to agree with the gist of what you are saying.

The sell off did seem to be mostly in paper positions rather than real gold.

The rapid rise in the Gold spot price after the recent fall does somewhat confirm that.

  11. Hi

I notice the place I was going to suggest has already been mentioned, the school on soi 25 naklua, directions already given, just past " Golden Beach" condo.

A while back I spoke to a lady who was going there for lessons, seemed happy with the teaching there.

Worth a look if nothing else.

    Good Luck.smile.png

  12. Sorry not relevant to the thread but it brought back what was an amusing incident in a Chinese hotel.

I had been staying a few days and wanted to extend my stay, they had rooms available.

Nice hotel, good service, I had planned to leave for a side trip, then changed my mind and wanted to stay.( already booked for future visit)

I had a Chinese friend with me at the time, very calm intelligent and well educated.

When I asked to extend my stay, I got questioned as to why I wanted to stay longer.

No problem with the question, merely said I had enjoyed the stay and couldn`t be bothered with the side trip.

My Chinese friend didn`t take kindly to the question of why I wanted to stay longer being asked and flipped, never seen him like that.

Shouting abuse at the staff, why do you ask my friend a stupid question.

Apologies all round and received as before good service.

Guess you would have to have been there but it was quite amusing.smile.png

  13. Just had another look at the posts on my thread. Thanks for both positive and negative responses. I respect your opinion.

But it does strike me that some people appear to view prostitutes as absolutely terrible. immoral people.

Let's get this straight: This website exists because of them because they attract millions of tourists to Thailand every year.

Whatever your opinion about prostitution, at the end of the day they're human beings like you and me. Not just in Thailand, all over the world.

Treat someone with respect and they'll respond in kind.

Sorry but I don`t agree with your reason for this website`s existence.

I don`t believe that the major reason for people to visit/choose to live in Thailand is the reason you have given.

Tens of thousands, maybe more, could be.

I`ve noticed an increase in the number of non Thai couples choosing to be here/whether on holiday or living here, for various reasons.

Climate, cost of living, disillusionment with home country etc.

Many here just trying to have and adapt to a different life/culture.

I respect your opinion also, fair enough, know of a couple of others that have taken the same route as you, worked for a while, then failed.

  14. naklua main road seemed fine and dry as of a couple of hours ago, around the soi Wong Amat area.

Some water throwing last night from a bar on the left as you come from the Dolphin roundabout, just before the turn to soi Wong Amat.

    Nothing much.

Big day here on the 18 th.

    I`ll be staying indoorssmile.png

  15. Hello

I currently sometimes use AIS 3 G, with an AIS dongle, marked 7.2 Mbps connected to my laptop.

It`s OK but I wouldn`t mind getting something faster if possible.

    Pattaya area.

I notice AIS now have a dongle marked 21.6 Mbps and was told , (by the man trying to sell it) this would be better.

Someone else has suggested I will not notice any improvement as the network cannot support that ?

A speed test did seem to suggest that I was not even getting close to what my current dongle claims.

TOT have a big poster offering 3.9 G, claiming 42 Mbps.

    I honestly have no idea

Can I get something better/faster or not?

I do suspect from what I`ve read the answer is No.

    Thanks for any constructive answers.smile.png

  16. I admire those who run them.

For not too much capital they can start a little business and if they work hard and provide good food and a friendly service can take some pride in having their own business.

It must take a lot of effort, fair play to them.

I don`t use them all that often but handy for a snack whilst out and about sometimes.

  17. Have they left a gap for motorbikes to pass through?

    It appears not.

I noticed 2 motorbikes the other night go the wrong way through it to avoid having to turn left up pattaya nua.

They were coming from naklua road on to Beach Road, merely sped through the wrong way.

There will be more accidents there.

    +2

Still the most magical place I have been. I've been there twice and the only reason I am not living there is to do so would require me to marry a local woman ... and I haven't found one yet. Heading back there in November.

    David

Do you get around the $250/day minimum or just pay up?

Just pay up. The $250/day is the high season rate. Lower in the off season. Just remember, for that rate you get lodging, transportation, meals, driver, and a guide. And, of course, you get to visit a country that doesn't have KFC, McD, or Starbucks. That alone is worth something extra. If you want to see some images of the country or its people you can click on the links to my portfolio.

    Hello

Some lovely photos you`ve taken theresmile.png

Do you have to go as part of a group or could just 2 people go ?

    Thank You.

As to Songkran, I`ve not arranged anything, so will mostly be staying in, naklua, not quite so bad there and avoiding central pattaya.
