  1. Thank you both for your kind and helpful replies!!! CDNVIC: your

link is invaluable, and you, CharlieH, have given me some much-needed optimism!

I will post here on the progression of my Thai oddesy, if you're interested.

    Thank you again!

    The link works for me...

  2. Actually, after renovation the good old QBar became better, less annoying freelance handbags, more space to cruise and more space in general, just the spacious DJ "room" is blocky and the loose seating furniture, whether sofa or footstools are a bit annoying and rather a trap for falling over later at night after a few too many CARLSBERG's...

  3. And, dude, you probably american (no offence), but english is NOT a common global language (yet), so learn Thai, it isnt so difficult to get to a certain level.

English is the second or third most spoken language in the world (depending on which poll/site you want to believe)

    http://www2.ignatius...r/languages.htm

Or you can jsut google for yourself...

But dont let facts get in the way of a good rant!

Well, I guess still more people speak Hindi or Mandarin and not complaining anywhere else in the world that nobody speaks there language.

    Take it easy, man.

    :)

  4. Have a nice flight!

Nobody is forced to live here, this is NOT our country, accept the rules and inconveniences, because your are just a guest, however you are a 2 day business traveller, a 14 days honeymonner, a 3 years expat or a 10+ years dirty old man (no offence).

Well, things are diferent here, this is more or less a development country without much development, but this is not central Africa either.

And, dude, you probably american (no offence), but english is NOT a common global language (yet), so learn Thai, it isnt so difficult to get to a certain level.

Anyway, sooner or later you will miss it, I am sure.

P.S.: Try to get a working permit / visa i.e. in Germany, if you are not invited by a company as specialized expat or bring money to found a company, it is afaik quite tricky.

  5. Assuming you will turn 36 soon and got some 15+ years of nightlife on your watch already: Forget Bangkok, seriously!

If you are flexible, fly to Saigon / Ho Chi Min and go to the legendary APOCALYPSE NOW, or fly to Jakarta and go to RED SQUARE.

BedSupperClub is still hip but boring as hell, QBar full of "handbags" (freelancing hookers), GLOW is unfortunately empty always, RCA Road is primarely for Thai kids in groups in their early early 20th and KaoSanRoad for me a no go area (as a resident)...

    Good Luck!

Apocalypse Now, are you joking? It was apocalyptically bad even 10 years ago, but now... And never really a nightclub, more of a bar where a few people will occasionally dance. Boring as hell, filled with Vietnamese hookers who are waaaaay more pushy, businesslike, costly and full of tricks than Thai ones, and with expensive drinks by Viet standards. Apocalypse Now may have been Now before about 1990, but today abagofchips would be more enjoyable. Try finding decent nightclubs (in the western sense) anywhere in Southeast Asia. They don't exist. They do in North Asia though (Japan especially, also Korea and now increasingly in China too...)

Well, Apo might be a bit outdated but still great party going on there. Sure "handbags" are everywhere in Asia, but in Apo not only, easy tomake new friends, just buy a bottle of Vodka or so, get a table and rock on...

NO, if I could chose every weekend where to go, places like Apo or Red Square versus the good old clubs back home in Europe, I would beam myself over every given Saturday, but this is not the way yet.

  7. Better take a train, if you are short on budget, or fly, what is rather cheap as well! Busses and mini busses is kind of a Russian Roulette...

Unless of course, you get a moronic driver trying to beat the train at a level crossing which subsequently dis-rails two carriages causing injuries to over 120 people !!!

    EDIT: Take a plane!

  8. He a snapshot from the theoretical driving licence test, no kiddin...

OK, again, NO KIDDIN, the right answer of the question regarding the BLUE 30 sign, is NOT "minimal speed 30 KMH" as one might think, NO, it is "maximum speed 30 KMH". When I told the officer this obivious mistake, he said, yes he knows...

    LOL

  9. I wonder how many of those deaths are motor cycle related, it’s unfair to compare UK and Thailand for many reasons. Yes the numbers are shocking but I am not surprised the standard of driving in Thailand is shocking treat everybody as an idiot on the road as most of them are!

I am also quite shocked at the number of busses coaches and lorries I see almost every day with completely bald tyres! Doesn’t anyone check them?

...not to compare cars / trucks without any or at least back lights!

I just did my Thai driving licence. Seeing how easy it is to get one without any proper training or theoretical drill makes me understand the traffic situation in Thailand.
